In-Steering Wheel Navigation

April 18th, 2008 by Edwin in Electronic Gadgets, Vehicle Gadgets

naviwheel.jpgThe In-Steering Wheel Navigation takes in-dash navigation to the next level, doing away with the need for a large display for obvious reasons but featuring a list of functions that might actually be crazy enough to be the next big thing. The In-Steering Wheel Navigation uses a computer that is connected to a central unit in your car, warming the driver of various potential hazards such as an opened door or low-tire pressure through the steering wheel. It is also compatible with the Navigon 7100 GPS navigation system, relaying important information to the 12 o’clock position on the steering wheel. In addition, the on-board sensors will enable the Navigon 7100 to gauge speed accurately, direction and the attitude of the vehicle. Which do you think is safer - glancing at the steering wheel or the dashboard?

Thorr Electric Car

April 18th, 2008 by Edwin in Electronic Gadgets, Vehicle Gadgets

thorr.jpg

A marriage between a Lotus Super 7 type carriage with a state of the art electric powertrain results in the Thorr Electric Car. You won’t get a roof with this though, so make sure you have a comb with you at all times should you want to take this out for a spin.

ThoRR uses a chassis that has been inspired by the Lotus Super 7 concept. This concept stands for high performance through simplicity and light weight. Because of the absence of ABS, power assisted braking, power assisted steering, any form of sound absorption, even a roof and a windshield, only the basics of a car remain. Driving becomes a symphony composed by the drive line, the chassis, the wheels, the wind and the road. The simplicity of the car, that doesn’t even uses a gearbox, makes it possible to actually feel all the aspects of the electric drive train.

No word on pricing, but it should be crazy expensive.

Rainbow Dice Shape Lamp

April 13th, 2008 by Edwin in Electronic Gadgets, Vehicle Gadgets

rainbow-dice.jpgGo pimpin’ on the roads with the Rainbow Dice Shape Lamp that goes one up on those fuzzy dice that gangsta rappers love to parade in their rides. While theirs only look phat during the day, introducing a little bit of geek power into your vehicle with the Rainbow Dice Shape Lamp. This little dice that could glows randomly with up to seven different colors. No idea if a $19 investment will help you draw in the ladies at the nightclub though - I presume the stature of the ride is of more importance compared to the decorations inside.

Car Glitter Lamp

April 11th, 2008 by Edwin in Electronic Gadgets, Vehicle Gadgets

car-glitter-lamp.jpgNo idea what the main idea for the Car Glitter Lamp is exactly, but it sure as heck would look tacky if you’re driving something that’s worth more than a house. After all, glitter flakes swimming with glowing colors seem to appeal more to younger kids (especially girls), so the $22 you fork out for this is rather questionable. It hooks up to your vehicle’s cigarette lighter outlet, measuring 130mm x 15mm x 15mm.

Keep your car fresh using solar power

April 10th, 2008 by Chris in Solar Powered Gear, Vehicle Gadgets

Solar Car Air Purifier

Cars tend to attract odors, especially when several people are crammed in one for long trips. Add in a couple of smokers and the smell can become overbearing. Thankfully I don’t smoke, and most of the people that ride with me don’t either, so I just stick with the occasional pine tree air freshener. However, if you want something a little more hi-tech cleaning your air, you might try out this little gadget.

Dsus DS-400GB rear view camera

March 30th, 2008 by Edwin in Audio/Video Gadgets, Vehicle Gadgets

dsus-ds400gb.jpg

The Dsus DS-400GB rear view camera is truly a thing of wonder - it looks like a standard rear view camera, but offers way much more functionality compared to the standard rear view mirror you get in your vehicle. Hailing all the way from the East (China), don’t be misled by the Dsus DS-400GB name given to the device. It is not an offshoot of Asus, and neither does it feature 400GB worth of storage space.

Motorized Monocycle

March 29th, 2008 by Edwin in Electronic Gadgets, Vehicle Gadgets

motorized-motorcycle.jpgIs this ever a funky piece of transportation - the Motorized Monocycle from Hammacher.

Drawing upon a robust history of development that began with an original design conceived in Marseilles, France in 1869, this is the motorized monocycle made in the Netherlands that propels a single rider up to 25 MPH. Powered by a 31cc, four-stroke 1 1/2-hp engine, the wheel operates by using a centrifugal clutch on its inner steel frame to engage the larger 67″ diam. outer flywheel that actually makes contact with the ground with a rubber tire. The ingenious device is steered by leaning to one side or the other, and it can safely negotiate any dense surface such as pavement or grass. A fiberglass frame encloses the engine, drive train, and fuel tank, and provides a cushioned seat and convenient footrests for riders up to 6′ 3″ high when i n a sitting position. The hand-holds have a finger throttle that provides progressive acceleration and a brake that provides confident stops for riders up to 275 lbs. (minimum weight of 110 lbs. suggested for proper counterbalance during acceleration and braking). It can run for up to two hours on less than a 1/2-gallon of gasoline.

No point in picking one of these up if it isn’t a street legal vehicle. Well, unless you want to drive the Joneses up the wall as they try to keep up with your lavish $12,999.95 purchase.

Anti-drowsy Alarm

March 28th, 2008 by Edwin in Audio/Video Gadgets, Electronic Gadgets, Vehicle Gadgets

anti-drowsy-alarm.jpg

It is an unspoken and logical rule that one ought not take to the wheel whenever one is sleepy, but somehow or rather most people think that sleep is not a biological function but more a matter of willpower - and they learn this through disastrous results. The Anti-drowsy Alarm aims to help prevent drivers from dozing away, as it has a sensor that can detect whenever your head nods below a preset angle, kicking in a screeching alarm. I wonder how effective this is - someone who nods off only to be rudely awakened by an alarm might actually turn the steering wheel the wrong way out of shock. Well, I guess it can also be applied for other purposes, especially students who love catching a nap right behind the class. The Anti-drowsy Alarm will retail for $10 each.
