iFly Vamp flits around

by Edwin

ifly-vamp.jpgNow here’s another R/C flying toy to keep you occupied. It would be a great purchase to consider especially when you want to prepare for spring when it is fun to go out and frolic in a park once again.

Ultra eerie, ridiculously clever and frighteningly entertaining, the rechargeable iFly Vamp is unlike other motorised flying thingies because it is an ornithopter. Which, as everyone with access to Google knows, means it flaps its wings in order to flit about the skies. It really is a sight to behold. And at only 12″x10″ Vamp is the smallest R/C ornithopter in the world.

Pick up the iFly Vamp for £29.95 – it will begin to ship in February, but Firebox is accepting pre-orders today.

Spy Video Car – maybe Santa will bring it next year

by Chris

Spy Car
Christmas has finally passed. While I enjoy this time of year, people tend to go crazy with their last-minute shopping. The streets are crowded and people tend to get rude in the stores. It’s these things that make me happy when the day is over. That’s not to say that I don’t love the time I spend with my family and the giving (and receiving!) of gifts. Since I’m still a child at heart, I tend to enjoy gifts that are intended for kids. It’s not uncommon to see things like LEGOs and R/C cars on my wish list. If I could go back in time, I’d probably add this car to my list.

Spy Video Car from Wildplanet Spy Gear Collection

Spy Video Car

I’ve got to like these new Spy Gear toys from the Wildplanet company. One of my favorites, and I am told, a lot of people’s favorites is the Spy Video Car.

Unfortunately, a Spy Video car isn’t one of those cool cars with lots of built-in gadgets like you would see in a spy video, but it is just as cool.

Simply put, this toy is a dream come true. It is a remote control car with a camera attached on the front. Unfortunately, the camera is a monochromatic job, but it does shoot in infrared.

The Spy Video Car comes in two parts, first the car itself, which has good controls and runs easily across carpet. I never tested it on rocky terrain, but I imagine in might do pretty well.

Big Shockie Alert: Wii Sports apparently not as good as real thing

by Mark R

Wii Sports Bunk

Well, all Wii owners out there are probably still enjoying their WiiSports, the “Combat” of the Nintendo Wii. (I’m sure a lot of you aren’t getting the “Combat” reference. Just think back to the Atari 2600.) And I’m certain that some of you have felt good just in knowing that you’re getting your exercise playing Wii Baseball, Bowling, Golf, Tennis, or even Boxing.

Well, I hate to be the one to burst your bubble, but there is UK Study that shows that a round of Wii Sports, even the best one, is no substitute for proper exercise. In fact, it recorded on a negligible difference between playing Wii Sports vs. playing a regular controller game.

Remote Control Duck

by Al

Remote Control Duck
We’ve written about some pretty cool remote control toys, well here’s one that is not so cool, the remote control duck, bath time will never be the same again.

Bath times aren’t always the smoothest of events when kids are concerned. Well we have the prefect toy to help get them into the tub! It is one of those products that makes you think ‘why hasn’t it been done before?’.

The remote control duck lets you move him forwards, backwards, left and right, and a 45 second charge will have him swimming for 3 minutes. If you can bare to keep your hands off it for 5 minutes to charge you can get a play time of 15 minutes.

You can have yellow company in the bath for £15 (~$31) from Red 5.

Remote Controlled Land, Sea and Air Vehicle

by Edwin

remote-control-als.jpgThe Remote Controlled Land, Sea and Air Vehicle allows you to have fun no matter where you are.

This is the remote-controlled vehicle that can be operated on the ground, on the water, and in the air. This nimble craft has three runners on its polynyolene undercarriage that glide directly atop water, grass, or concrete, allowing this craft to race directly against RC boats and cars–but with a tap of the elevator button, it can shoot skyward, executing a rapid vertical climb or dodging and darting through a dizzying array of acrobatics. The high-torque motor is capable of three speeds, controlled by the included radio transmitter, which also controls pitch and yaw. The double-coated, high-impact wings will withstand the rigors of intense maneuvering and rough landings, while the specially designed hatch ensures that batteries and electronics stay secure and dry. The 3-channel digital proportional radio system provides precise control up to a range of 500′.

You can have your fun on all three terrains for $99.95.

Petrol Powered RC Hummer Monster Truck

by Edwin

petrol-hummer.jpgHere’s the grown up version of battery-powered remote control toy cars – the Petrol Powered RC Hummer Monster Truck.

This is an actual petrol powered model, meaning you use fuel from a petrol station. It runs on a mix of normal unleaded petrol and 2 stroke oil. Both of these are available from any petrol station which makes them more practical and cheap to run. Mixing the petrol is very easy. You simply fill up a petrol can with 5 liters of unleaded at the petrol station then pour in 250ml of 2 stroke oil.

Sounds like a pretty volatile mix, so I guess having adult supervision while playing this is a must. The Petrol Powered RC Hummer Monster Truck hits your pocket with a monster price too – £349.

Black Ghost Helicopter for the kids

by Edwin

black-ghost.jpgIf your kid is into all things military, then the Black Ghost Helicopter toy could be just the right present.

Not far off looking like an Apache helicopter (if you squint a bit) but sadly without the weaponry, this tiny little powerhouse is so astonishingly stable even an idiot can fly it. We tested it on of our idiots in the IWOOT office just to make sure. As well as being an easy flyer it’s also pretty darn resilient along with full altitude and directional control plus a super steady forward motion. It charges up from the remote (which takes 6 AA batteries) and you should get at least 10 mins flying time before it needs another charge. This really is the most stable and controllable little helicopter we’ve ever played with – and we’ve played with a lot (it’s important research you know). This well and truly rocks.

The Black Ghost Helicopter would make a pretty good stocking stuffer at the relatively affordable price of £24.95.
