PicooZ Chinook Now that’s Cool

by Al

PicooZ Tandem Z

We’ve raved about the PicooZ R/C helicopters before, I also bought my self daughter a pair of the battling helicopters for Christmas (they are still very cool), this next release from PicooZ looks to continue the coolest R/C toy tradition, the Tandem Z, a remote control Chinook.

The helicopter has super wide infrared control, a built-in Li-Poly battery, trim control and durable body. It has sophisticated gyroscopic effect for stability and twin rotor blades that work in Tandem. It also has a unique roto-blade system for steady take off and it’s a 3 channel helicopter (forwards, backwards, left, right, up and down).

A normal charge of 20-25 minutes should give you a flight time of around 10 minutes, and this is done directly from the remote control (requires 6xAA batteries).

The only thing lacking is you can’t shoot down other Chinook’s maybe that’s planned for the next release (hopefully), you can buy the PicooZ Tandem Z for £40.00 (~$82) from Red 5.

Get a GOAT to mow your lawn

by Chris

GOAT

I hate mowing the lawn. I grew up in the country, which meant there was a lot of grass to be cut. In addition to my parents’ lawn, I also did the mowing for our kind, elderly neighbor. In all, there were about 3 acres worth of grass. I joked with my parents about getting a goat or two, as they would simply eat the grass. I’m going to guess that someone else had a similar childhood, because they’ve created the remote-controlled GOAT lawn mower.

A Positive Review of the Nyko Wireless Nunchuk

by Mark R

Wireless Nunchuk

Normally, I avoid reporting on products that get too much coverage, unless I have something different to say about it. Such is the case with the Nyko Wireless Nunchuk, a product that other gadget blogs are really bashing unnecessarily.

I had a chance to try out the Nyko Wireless Nunchuk at CES 2008, and I absolutely adored it. A lot of gadget blogs are asking whether the product is really necessary, but I say: “Of course it is! This is the new millennium, and everything is going to be wireless by the time we reach the end of this millennium.”

Clearly, the negative reviewers have not played some of the Wii games that I play. For example, there are moves on the Dancing with the Stars video game that require moving the Wiimote and Nunchuk in a locomotion dance. The wire really gets in the way of the dancing, and so removing the wire makes it a lot easier. Also, I have a dog and a newborn baby who have this annoying habit of grabbing onto the connector wire while I’m trying to play. Now the doggy and baby won’t have anything to grab. Thank you, Nyko!

Flying Stick Cam – aerial surveillance … er photography for everyone

by James

Flying Stick Camera

Everyone either made a whirlybird out of paper or had a wood/plastic toy version when they were a kid. The concept was pretty simple. Rub the stick body of the whirlybird between one’s hands and toss it up into the air (the paper version was merely dropped from on high). Using auto-rotation, the whirlybird would land under its own control anywhere from a few feet to several yards away. It was a fun toy for the helicopter pilot in all of us. Now, (thanks to our friends at Yankoo Design) one designer has taken that whirlybird concept and created a camera platform out of it.

Insecta takes flight

by Edwin

insecta.jpgThis strange looking helicopter-insect hybrid known as the Insecta is yet another remote controlled toy to keep the kid within you entertained.

With its big glowing eyes, bug-ish legs, LED strobe light, colorful camouflaged body and membranous X-rotors, the rechargeable Insecta looks as if it’s just flown out of a sci-fi movie or the twisted mind of a comic book creator. Indeed you might feel like wearing your pants outside your tights every time you take to the skies. Or not. Also available in blue or green!

With the Insecta, you don’t have to worry about the weather outside as this little critter is very much capable of indoor flight, albeit it will be rather cramped (while risking the missus’ wrath). Still, you can risk sleeping on the couch for the night by handing over £19.95 to Firebox for the Insecta.

Choro-Q remote control car

by Edwin

chrono-q.jpg

The Choro-Q remote control car sounds and looks like the perfect gift for a bored office executive.

Surprise! Takara New ChoroQ, Q Steer, the world smallest and the highest performance Choro Q! Running in 6 directions! It’s an epoc making!

Gotta love the Engrish on that site. Still, we know how fun is universal and should not let something like shoddy grammar stand in our way. If you’re interested in picking up the Choro-Q, it retails for a mere $12.

Voice-controlled Dalek

by Edwin

voice-command-dalek.jpgWe’ve seen remote controlled Daleks in the past – but here’s a new novelty. Voice-controlled Daleks FTW!

The Voice Controlled Dalek is a new generation of galactic evil. Standing a mighty foot and a half high, he’s able to track moving objects, and as well as you being able to direct him by radio control, he responds to over 30 voice commands. Complete with sound, movement and heat sensors, he’s festooned with sound and light effects, and his memory banks store over 50 Dalek phrases (helpfully translated into gargled English). His ‘Eye’ and ‘Exterminator’ arm light up, and his head can rotate through 270 degrees – which steals the thunder from owls somewhat. He has a bevy of special operational modes, such as ‘Seek Locate’, ‘Follow Me’ and ‘Guard Room’, making him a handy sentinel to have round the house.

This little bugger can be yours for £99.99.
