iControl Ferrari costs a fraction of the real deal

by Edwin

I know, owning a Ferrari probably ranks tops on the list of any boy’s wish list, after all, who would not want to have one of these rare Italian exotics, with so many ponies available at the tap of your foot, that you can smoke just about any car at the next red light? Unfortunately, the world does not work in a way where it panders to our every whim and fancy, and most of us will probably be unable to afford one of these mean machines – unless, of course, it has been steeply discounted to the point of the £29.99 iControl Ferrari. This particular model has been scaled down by 50 times, and is an RC car with a difference – it will use your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad as the remote control of choice thanks to an included dongle so that you can ‘drive’ your Enzo around in style.

At least the app is free, and if you happen to use an iPhone, your device will rumble as though you were starting the engine when you fire it up. The array of controls on your touchscreen display are said to be responsive enough for a fun time with this AAA-battery powered devices. Tilt your iPhone, and this sleek little sports car will turn in the corresponding direction as well. At least there is no speeding ticket to pick up with this puppy…

HELO TC Touch-Controlled Helicopter uses your iDevice

by Mark R

Since toys are always a popular seller this Christmas, you might as well get something that big kids can play with with the Helo TC Touch-Controlled Helicopter.

It is similar to the Dexim AppSpeed, a miniature iPhone controlled truck, but it takes to the air. It has a twin-rotor remote design for a stable controlled flight, provided it is indoors.

Special edition TankBot delivers battle mode

by Edwin

Just how much time do you spend gaming on your Android-powered device or your iPhone? If you took stock of the situation and realized that gaming takes up the largest chunk of your time on your smartphone instead of making phone calls, sending text messages and replying emails, then you might either want to consider getting a dedicated portable gaming device like the Nintendo 3DS or the upcoming PlayStation Vita, or to take things on your mobile device to the next level with a special edition version of the TankBot.

Desk Pets International Limited has just introduced this new special edition TankBot that cannot be found anywhere else apart from Brookstone stores. Having picked up Popular Science’s Best of Toy Fair 2011 award, the TankBot will feature a trio of interactive modes that enables you to let it navigate through mazes, roam around freely, or be controlled by your Apple iOS or Android mobile device. When the words “special edition” are thrown into the mix, the TankBot is transformed into a little tank that has a battle mode, letting you “fire” imaginary shells via infrared between tanks.

iKon RC Buggy

by Edwin

There is a report out there that claims Apple’s devices are still the most desirable, never mind the fact that there are more Android-powered smartphones being used by the masses at the moment. I do wonder though – do all the rest of the mid-range Android owners really, really want an iPhone but could not afford one, hence settling for an Android device instead? I would have thought that they would hold out with their current phones first, and make the switch to perhaps the free iPhone 3GS at the moment, never mind that it is behind by a couple of generations. Well, iPhone owners now have a new toy to play with – the £79.99 iKon RC Buggy.

This unique device will be able to cruise around the floor at around 10ft per second (that would make it go at around 7mph), where it ought to be able to shrug off some minor knocks and accidents since it is made from aluminum. Not only that, rack and pinion steering as well as high-grip tyres make sure that controls are responsive enough to deliver superb handling. Even when you decide to send the iKon RC Buggy on an uneven ground mission, it will be able to do just fine with an independent wishbone suspension system.

Lazer Stunt Chasers

by Mark R

If you have never used a laser pointer to play with a cat, then you don’t know the joy of teasing animals! I recently reviewed a laser pointer from Griffin, and I loved to watch my kids chase the red dot of light.

Now there is a toy that can capture the joy of laser pointer teasing without the cat or the kids. In lieu of them are these cars that will go wherever the light is pointing.

As the name implies, these are stunt cars. So if you want to take these vehicles up ramps for jumps, and even through loop de loops, just aim the beam in the proper direction. There is a video after the jump if you want to see them in action.

Remote Control Illuminated Moon

by Edwin

Some of us during our younger days, when wooing a person of the opposite gender, we would promise the other party all sorts of things – just like politicians do, and most of the time we are unable to fulfill those promises. Among such promises might include the moon and the stars, but here is a chance for you to redeem yourself – never mind the number of years which has passed since then. The £24.99 Remote Control Illuminated Moon could be the answer to your problems – and it is also a suitable night light for young kids.

The name of the device gives the game away, where it will help you keep track of the moon’s phases, never mind if clouds already gathered around the moon to blot out its silvery light. All you need to do is mount this authentic moonscape on your wall, and it is ready to go – where it has been specially programmed to cycle through the phases similar to that of the actual moon. Want to turn it off? Just use the handy remote and switch it off, and if you forget to do so, it has an automatic shut-off function as well. It needs no reflection from the sun, but rather, is powered by a quartet of AA batteries.

Dexim’s AppSpeed is a miniature iPhone-controlled monster truck

by Mark R

I have covered products from Dexim before, they usually make products that give more power to iDevices.

One of their newest products is the AppSpeed, a Gyro Controlled RC Monster Truck. The AppSpeed allows an iDevice user to control a two-inch tall monster truck by tilting their compatible iDevice, provided it has iOS 4.0 or later.

The App Speed comes with a custom-built RF Transmitter that fits in the bottom of the iDevice. The moment that contact is made with the 30-pin connector, the iDevice user is prompted to download the application necessary to control the AppSpeed Monster Truck.

As for the little monster truck’s power, it comes with a USB cord that you can connect to your computer or a wall (if you have a USB wall adapter). It also has a quick battery charger that requires 3 AAA batteries (not included) for when you need some power on the go.
