The Room Defender

This is a great toy from Gadget Box.
Called the Room Defender, you install it in your bedroom or any other place where you don’t want prying eyes. Aim it at the door, and it waits patiently, automatically detecting any movements. When it does detect an unwanted intruder, it launches a salvo of 16 foam disks.

Lego Art – Han Solo in Carbonite

In my younger years my two favourite toys (by far) were Lego and Star Wars figures (the originals not that Jar Jar Binks fool). Why I didn’t think of making a carbonated Han Solo out of Lego I’ll never know, fortunately Nathan Sawaya did think of it and made that legendary wall hanging Han. Read the rest of this entry »

USB RC Car Simulator
I’m not sure if this is cool or not. It’s a computer simulation of a remote control car with a realistic high end controller. The Controller connects via USB and is used to control the remote control car on screen.
It does look cool but I’m still left with the feeling that this type of simulation is overkill, I can understand racing games and flight sims as Mr Joe Public isn’t going to get a chance to race an F1 or fly a Tornado but a remote control car is within most peoples grasp and it’s not like there’s a risk of serious injury if you crash it.
Then again the more I look at this the more I want one, so ignore that previous rant

Walkie Talkie Watches

This pair of gadgets is something I would really like to try out. The Walkie Talkie Watches are two completely functional watches with all the power of a set of two-way walkie talkie radios.
To the average person they look just like an ordinary digital watch, however with the almost hidden retractable antenna, they double as two-way radios that can communicate with crystal clarity up to 3km. There are 8 channels and 38 sub channels to choose from, giving you over 300 possible secure lines of communication to ensure your privacy. There is also auto channel scanning and squelch control included.

AkaZawa’s Desktop Robot PLEN
The bipedal robot, for so long it was the holy grail of roboticists. Honda most famously produced some of the first walking robots with the “P” series, which has evolved into Asimo. Most of the bipedal robots today employ the zero moment point (ZMP) algorithm. This gives them kind of a stiff-in-the-knees walk and a permanent semi-crouch. Recently this has been applied to robots who, if you look closely, are really nothing more than a bunch of servos bolted together. Another entry into this category is “PLEN” from the Japanese company Akazawa. Read the rest of this entry »

Desktop Battle Tanks
Remember the old 2 player console game Tanks where you had to navigate your blocky tank around walls and blast your opponent before they got you in their sights. This toy is just like that but instead of playing it on your retro console you play it on your desk.
