YouTube user Matt Coats has found the perfect toy for his pet cat named Robot… the only problem is it costs about $1000 and it’s his MacBook laptop.
Not only is the MacBook very warm and the perfect place to take a little catnap, but it can also provide hours of entertainmnet thanks to Apple’s media center application called Front Row.
Matt setup a camera and put his MacBook on the floor. You can check out the video here on YouTube.
Let’s hope Matt got Robot declawed or invested in some scratch proof screen protectors.
Make Your Own Cardboard Robot
September 16th, 2006 by Al in DIY Gadgets, Toys
One of the perks of running CG is we often get sent gadgets to review, most of the time we’ll give them out to the community as prizes (we currently have a $1,000 competition running and since the start of that competition we’ve received another $1,500 worth of prizes for the next one :)). This next bribe, freebie review piece is one we’ll be keeping as we had to make it our selves, Kokino the Paper Robot toy.
A1 Quality Toys contacted me a little while ago to ask if I’d like to review their Paper Toy Robot, as I’m one to rarely say no it turned up a few days later, thanks guys. Read the rest of this entry »
Multi-Colored Magna Doodle
September 6th, 2006 by Al in Toys
I’m not sure if these are new but they never had them when I was a kid, multi colored Magna Doodles.
Instead of doodling in boring old black you can now doodle in multiple colors. By the looks of the pic it’s only in red and blue but that makes a huge difference in the quality of drawings that 4 year olds can do :).
Available from Target, found on Book of Joe.
Interactive Star Wars Light Saber Game
August 31st, 2006 by Al in Toys
I think this would be cool even if I wasn’t a Star Wars fan.
This game plugs into a television and translates actual movement into on-screen interactive lightsaber dueling from the iconic Star Wars movies. A spheroidal training droid plugs into your TV (not included) via an included RCA cable and wirelessly detects every movement of the lightsaber as you collaborate with on-screen representations of famous Jedi Knights such as Obi-Wan Kenobi, Qui-Gon Jinn, and Yoda to battle a host of adversaries including Jango Fett, Emperor Palpatine, and Darth Vader. At 15″ long, the lightsabers hilt is wide enough for two hands, but short enough for exuberant indoor play.
Was the spheroidal training droid only in the original, or was it also in the latest films. Anyway it would be a cool addition to any living room. If you fancy starting your Jedi training it’s available from Hammacher for $59.95. Thanks to clvezlysfor the nod.

How To Make a Mentos Coke Rocket
August 24th, 2006 by methodshop in Drinking Gadgets, Miscellaneous Gadgets, Toys
Want to make your own carbonated gas rocket? You’ve probably already seen someone make a Mentos Coke Geyser. Just drop a few Mentos into a bottle of Diet Coke and you’ll see a violent 16 foot fountain of Coke explode out of the bottle. Although that may sound somewhat exciting, the geyser is the boring “science teacher” version of this experiment. If you really want to unleash the carbon dioxide power in a 2-liter bottle of Diet Coke, try making a Mentos Coke Rocket. Here’s how:
- Buy a 2 litter bottle of Diet Coke and a roll of Mentos. You can use any soda but room temperature Diet Coke for some reason is the best performer.
- Find a big open area to launch your Mentos Coke Rocket. Don’t do it indoors. Trust me.
- Slide the paper cover off the Mentos (leave the foil wrapper on) and slip the roll into the bottle.
- Quickly cap the bottle and shake it.
- Gently unscrew the cap, just a little, until you start to hear fizzing.
- Throw it down and cover your face!

Kickin’ Video Soccer
August 23rd, 2006 by Mike in Toys
This is another arcade type post, this time the arcade version isn’t totally addicting, which is always a good thing.
The Kickin’ Video Soccer is a at home version of the game where you get a ball tethered to a rope and try to score on the virtual goalie. It’s pretty cool and can actually be fun, unless you’re losing.
Not only is there game modes, but you can practice your kicks (penalty kicks, too) and corner kicks. The game works because of the mat, it has built in sensors to detect where and how fast your foot is going, which is sent back to the TV.
