The Discovery Electronic Gadget Lab

October 8th, 2006 by Mike in Toys

The Discovery Electronic Gadget Lab
Kids like to be hands-on and see something cool happen from their work. Science experiments involving circuitry don’t seem particularly kid-friendly, maybe because you’re worried about electrocution and other silly things, but the Discovery Electronic Gadget Lab is just that: a kid oriented toy involving circuits and electricity.

No, there are no exposed wires; everything is covered in layers of plastic, but you can still seem the components, lights, and switches.

DVD Rewinder

October 4th, 2006 by methodshop in Electronic Gadgets, Miscellaneous Gadgets, Toys, Wacky Gadgets
Coolest Gadgets

Don’t you just hate rewinding DVDs? Who doesn’t. It’s about time someone invented a way to rewind DVDs. And a stylish one at that. At first glance you make think that the aptly named DVD Rewinder looks like a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle hot pot… but it’s not.
Here’s how it works. Just snap a disc on the DVD Rewinder, press the button and watch in wonder as your disc spins in reverse thanks to the “Centripetal Velocity Spindle.” To complete the illusion, the DVD Rewinder plays a “rewind” sound while it spin discs backwards. You can also record your own “rewind” sound which provides unending possibilities for trickery.

In all seriousness, my friend’s wife just found out that you don’t actually have to rewind DVDs. So chances are you’ll be able to fool a few people with this gag gadget. So show this to your less-technical friends, sit back and enjoy the show.

Batteries not included. Yes the DVD Rewinder is a real product and can be purchased from dvdrewinder.com.

The USB Cannon

October 4th, 2006 by Al in Toys, USB Gadgets, Wacky Gadgets

USB Circus CannonThis gadget is similar to the USB missile launcher we reported on a few months ago but instead of firing missiles it’s a
cannon like those found at the circus.

Like the missile launcher it connects to your PC via USB, you can rotate it and change it’s elevation to aim. But instead of shooting at your colleagues your meant to try to land the flying baby in the safety net (though I’m sure you’ll still be able to shoot annoying work mates with it).

The USB cannon is available from Brando for $35.

Pogo Stick Extreme

October 2nd, 2006 by methodshop in Home Gadgets, Miscellaneous Gadgets, Sport, Toys
Coolest Gadgets

Looking for the next extreme sport? How about Extreme Pogo Sticking!? All you need is a pogo stick on steroids like the Flybar 1200.

This isn’t your average pogo stick (pro skateboarder Andy Macdonald helped develop it). The Flybar 1200 has a complex spring system consisting of 12 independent rubber thrusters capable of producing 1,200 pounds of power. In case you are wondering, that’s enough to get a 170-pound rider over 5 feet of elevation.

The Flybar 1200 also has extra-wide foot pads, with skateboard grip tape for stability and control. You’ll need that extra stability if you decide to do some backflips. Yep. I said backflips.

Remote Control Farting Teddy

September 28th, 2006 by Al in Remote Control Toys, Wacky Gadgets

Farty pants teddy
Ah doesn’t it look adorable! This teddy may look cute but it’s not exactly a romantic gift, as at the press of a button he vulgarly breaks wind.

As wacky gadgets go the remote farting teddy is well up there and a great way to encourage kids that farting is really funny, hm-mm not sure if you really want to be encouraging that one :)

The Remote Farting Teddy is available from Harriet Carter for $12.85.

Mazu Kan, Fight Like a Super Hero

September 26th, 2006 by Al in Toys

Mazu Kan: Two Player Invisible Fighting GameWhen I first saw this I thought it was going to be a game like laser quest, was I wrong! Mazu Kan lets 2 players battle it out like real superheroes.

To play each player wears a Mazu Kan harness around the chest and the actual controllers on each wrist and hand. In order to attack your opponent you need to squeeze a palm button and punch into the air (shouting some superhero chant at the same time). This then sends a attack to your opponent who must block or be docked points (indicated via a vibrating harness).

After a bit of practice you can play the game at a harder level which allows more advanced moves, like the Double Power Punch and Force Field.

So if remote control robot boxing isn’t your cup of tea check out Mazu Kan, available from Think Geek for $49.99.

Really Cool Boxing Robot Game

September 26th, 2006 by Al in Remote Control Toys, Toys

Robotic PugilistsThis is definitely one to add to your Christmas list (yeah I know it’s only September but these fellows are cool), your very own remote control boxing robots.

Each robot is capable of 8 different moves (like 360 spins, bobbing, hooks, and jabs etc.). The aim of the game is to out box your opponent. When one you land a punch the other robot will change it’s facial expression and let out an audible objection.

You can get a pair of robots complete with controllers for $84.95 from Hammacher, let the fighting begin :).

Piggy Bank

September 22nd, 2006 by Al in Toys, Wacky Gadgets

Piggy Puzzle

The Piggy Bank Puzzle takes 3D jigsaws to the next level, not only do you have to put it back together you also have to glue all the pieces. I wonder if you can complete it numerous time by throwing it against the wall (probably not advisable).

The Piggy Bank Puzzle is available from Firebox for £19.95.
