Skyrail Glow in the Dark Rollercoaster

October 4th, 2009 by Edwin in Childrens Gadgets, Toys

skyrailThis is something for those who have a soft affinity towards model trainsets, ranging from highly detailed trains to intricately designed track systems that span an entire room. Of course, some of us were not that fortunate to have a dream setup and had to settle for something much smaller that was limited by the table size (and daddy’s budget), but if you’re holding down a stable job now, the Skyrail Glow in the Dark Rollercoaster is certainly worth checking out.

You don’t get to ride in them, but you do get to design and build wild rides. Perhaps you’ll build the track (as shown in the instructions) with three loops; maybe you’ll build the one where the marbles jump from one track to another; maybe you’ll become a master fast enough to design your own crazy rides, and put the marbles through the G-force-iest ride ever. Or maybe you’ll actually let you kids play with the Skyrail Glow in the Dark Rollercoaster. Maybe.

Each $34.99 purchase of this set will come with a building guide that includes diagrams for a set with more pieces, which means you’ll have to fork out double the amount for another set to get the relevant pieces which augments the original 150 pieces. Don’t go losing special glow in the dark marbles as you can’t just buy these in any walk-in store.

Electronic Webcaster Gun: Like Spider-man, but creepier

September 29th, 2009 by Mark R in Toys, Wacky Gadgets

Electronic-Webcaster-Gun-thumb-550x350-24922If you are into arts and crafts, then you probably have at least one hot glue gun around the house. I never really thought about using a hot glue gun to make fake spiderwebs before, but it would appear that some company has re-packaged their hot glue guns for just such a purpose.

Obviously, this type of marketing is designed for Halloween, and if you need realistic webbing for your spooky party on October 31st, the Electronic Webcaster Gun is for you.

The package of twenty gluesticks can cover about 350 square feet, or one 12 x 15 foot room. The webs come in three types. You can choose Clear, which glows blue under black light. Neon Yellow, which glows yellow under black light, or simply choose Glow in the Dark.

Two New Lego Gadgets use Mini-Figs

September 28th, 2009 by Mark R in Electronic Gadgets, Miscellaneous Gadgets, Toys, USB Gadgets

lego_gadgetsThere are always too many Lego-related products on the market these days, and it and would appear that two mini-figurine (mini-fig) related ones are making the news today.

The first looks like it is an official Lego product, a Lego LED Lantern. The 8.8 inch tall Lego mini-fig hangs from a handle and can swing from there. It uses four white LED lights, and is powered by four AA batteries.

The second are not official Lego products, but they really ought to be. These are flash drives shaped like mini-figs, and some of them are Star Wars characters like Darth Vader, Yoda, or an Imperial Stormtrooper. They also have some that are shaped like other Lego mini-figs like Spongebob Squarepants and even some bricks. Unlike the Lego Lantern, they come in all shapes and sizes, not to mention memory.

If you want either of these products, you’ll have to go to separate places. The first is on the Perpetual Kid site for $19.99. The other is on the Etsy site at varying prices based on memory. The 2GB is for $45.95, the 4GB is for $69.95, and 4GB high speed for $79.95. There is even a 16GB version for $99.95.

Robot obeys its Master’s thoughts

September 28th, 2009 by Mark R in Conceptual Gadgets, Remote Control Toys, Robot Gadgets

thoughtrobotOf course, I was completely mesmerized when I saw this particular item of interest: a robot that obeys your thoughts.

Stop right there. Is this serious? Apparently so. Inventor Taku Ichikawa of the University of Electro-Communications in Tokyo is creating this robot for the Robo-One contest in Toyama, Japan.

The Robo-One is sort of a battlebots style competition, and I suppose that thoughts really are the best interface for that. Unfortunately, this is about all the information my sources have about this.

Brando’s Twelve sided IQ Pentagon puzzle for those with an eternity to spare

September 23rd, 2009 by Mark R in Toys

iq_pentagonI have this recurring nightmare where I am at the pearly gates, but I am not allowed in unless I do one last task. Then St. Peter hands me a mixed up Rubik’s cube.

Oh Rubik’s cube, the bane of my existence. I was in fourth grade when this flash-in-the-pan fad peaked, and I was only able to solve one side, really. I had absolutely no idea what to do after that.

Now, just imagine my aforementioned nightmare if I was handed this twelve sided IQ Pentagon puzzle from Brando. Personally, I think I would be lucky if I could complete one side, even luckier if the borders of the sides were non-mixed up colors. Some of you might not know what I am talking about, but I’m told that solving one side with sides of non-mismatched colors was the first step of solving a Rubik’s cube.

Remote Controlled Demolition Derby

September 23rd, 2009 by Edwin in Electronic Gadgets, Remote Control Toys, Toys

rc-demo-derbyDestroying can be fun sometimes, as there is always a feeling of satisfaction when it comes to starting from a new slate. Well, if you love demolishing stuff, the Remote Controlled Demolition Derby might be your cup of tea.

These are the remote controlled cars that can be repeatedly smashed to create unlimited demolition derbies. When the cars are crashed head-on into each other or their hoods and doors will dislodge; a hit to the rear pops the roof and a door (Play Video.) The parts can be easily pushed back into place for continued smashing. The remote controls forward, backward, left, and right movement. Two ramps and four cones are included, allowing you to create obstacle courses or stunts.

We’d strongly recommend getting rechargeable batteries for this though, as the set will require 10 AAA batteries before you can get started. While it has been labeled as “Ages 3 and up”, we’re sure you can come up with some fun game in your drunken haze with the $49.95 Remote Controlled Demolition Derby.

MaruBot Football League better than soccer video game

September 22nd, 2009 by Mark R in Gaming Gadgets, Remote Control Toys, Sport, Toys

01_img02-thumb-550x403-24530Just when I am still reeling after Space Foosball, another electronic tabletop game that requires the player to stand comes my way.

Introducing MaruBot Football League, a new way of playing soccer on the table. As you can see, miniature robots rest safely under glass, and it is up to the four players (two on one team, two on the other) to control them.

These players are moved by joystick controls, and their goal is to make goals. Oddly enough, these robots have LEDs in their eyes that indicate emotions. So if the other team scores a goal, they look flat and sad. If you make a goal, the eyes look wide and happy. Check out a mini photo gallery after the jump to see for yourself.

USB Rocking Teddy Bear

September 20th, 2009 by Edwin in PC Gadgets, Toys, USB Gadgets

rockbearNow here’s something you don’t see every day – the $47 USB Rocking Teddy Bear. This plush bear might look soft enough to hug whenever you’re about to call it a night, but he comes with an added caveat – built-in hi-fi speakers that are able to pump out your favorite tunes from your iPod, iPhone or portable media player of choice (as long as it is compatible with the 3.5mm jack, that is). He is connected through a USB cord where he derives power from, although those who tend to be portable can always tote around a quartet of AA batteries with them. Not only will he “sing” your tunes, he will even perform a little dance – not something that will amuse your boss, but it might just catch the eye of that hot-looking secretary.
