No Internet in Egypt, India, and other countries

The Internet is a Series of Tubes – Senator Ted Stevens in 2006 – wiki.

The bad news, is that one of those tubes which is actually undersea, suffered some kind of damage today and caused a few problems: 70% of Egypt didn’t have access to the net, while in India and Gulf Arab, the bandwidth was cut down to less than 50%.

According to AT&T, they already know where the problem is located – somewhere in a cable between France and Egypt.

Number of iPhones unlocked? Many

According to Toni Sacconaghi – analyst at Bernstein Research – there are about 1 million iPhones that were sold and are not being used with the AT&T network, which obviously means that they were unlocked and are currently being used on other networks. In other words, 27% of the iPhones don’t have a relationship with AT&T.

Taking in consideration that AT&T made a big contract with Apple to get the exclusive phone deal, these studies are definitely bad news for both parties involved. In the end, people that don’t stay with AT&T after buying the iPhone, aren’t making carrier payments, which results in a big loss for Apple.

Sure, we’ve heard some announcements from Gigabyte and Acer, but those won’t be out for a little while. The first one that we’ll likely see is the CloudBook from Everex which should have made its debut this past week. Unfortunately, it has been delayed.

Asus begins shipping Eee PCs with Windows XP in Japan

Asus Eee PC

It’s no small secret that Asus made waves with their super-small Eee PC. It has so many good things going for it that one has difficulty focusing on the negative. No, you won’t find me ranting and raving about a small hard drive or the fact that it runs Linux, I think it’s great that they’ve managed to make something this great that runs under $400. However, if you’re still hung up on the lack of Windows, don’t worry, as it will soon be an option.

AT&T gives free WiFi access to DSL subscribers

by Chris

AT&T

For the first time since I switched to 10MB down cable internet, I wish I were still using my old AT&T DSL line. Actually it would take a lot to get me to go back to something that slow, but they sure are making it rather appealing. I’m talking about AT&T’s recent announcement to give DSL customers free access to any of their ten thousand WiFi hotspots.
