Careful with the spy coins!

January 11th, 2007 by Dan in Spy Stuff

coin.jpgAccording to the American Defense department some mysterious coins were found in contractors that were traveling trough Canada (three separate events were registered early in 2006). Why the coins were mysterious you might ask? Because apparently they contained small radio frequency transmitters inside them, with the purpose of spying.

Yahoo news has an interesting article about the deal: “Experts said such tiny transmitters would almost certainly have limited range to communicate with sensors no more than a few feet away, such as ones hidden inside a doorway. The metal in the coins also could interfere with any signals emitted”.

The article also commented that “hiding tracking technology inside coins is fraught with risks because the spy’s target might inadvertently give away the coin or spend it buying coffee or a newspaper.” (no shit man!). Read the rest of this entry »

Look Mom! I’m a cameraman!!! Also I can make this jump!! probably,,,

Coolest Gadgets

Sure, you mountain bike, snowboard, rock climb, fish, play chess, and drive formula 1, (this means you Coulthard!)

I’m sure you always wanted to bring back those living images of greatness when you jumped, landed, caught, or checkmated all your opponents in living color.

Now it’s possible for a reasonable sum of money! (that’s different than paying for the lipstick cameras that adorn F1 cars that cost a tad more than $100). Thanks to the ATC-2000 Action Camera from Oregon Scientific. A special thanks to the big guy over at Fat Cyclist, (his words not mine) for letting me in on the secret.

The Action camera is just what the typical adrenaline (and bbq salmon teriyaki) fiend is looking for.  Durability. Did I mention durability?  Yeah, cause I break stuff and I know you do too! As far as frame rate, you only get 15fps, which is more than fast enough to capture sports that require you to see what you’re doing.  Just don’t go play that Tron-lightcycles game, man that is hard to follow on video!

JASON! I told you not to touch that!!! oh,, wait,, you can touch that.

December 15th, 2006 by Fred in Miscellaneous Gadgets, Spy Stuff, Tech News

Yes, they’re at it again, the wise and all knowing JASON. bradygames red pill green pill

Who or what is a JASON you may ask?

Well, they’re a relatively secret cabal of U.S. scientists that operate beyond political arenas (that’s they’re stipulation). The nice thing is, they just do what they do. They’re umm, good thinkers.

That’s really an understatement, they’re mostly the most brilliant scientists we have and well they do what they can (boy am I gonna get flamed on that one).

Anyhow, they’ve just put out a recommendation regarding engineering microorganisms for energy production.

So there I was wondering do I want a red pill or a green pill, and all of a sudden my question was answered! Over at Secrecy News, where this was posted, where there’s all sorts of scary crap. The JASON’s recommendation outlines production of microorganisms.

Wireless Mini Spy Camera With Night Vision

December 9th, 2006 by Tiago in Spy Stuff

Wireless Mini Spy Camera With Night Vision

It seems like there is always a new cool gadget that surpasses the others in quality, I’m 84% sure that is the case with this Spy Camera. It is better than the Hidden Light Bulb Camera + the R/C Night Vision Spy Car put together, seriously, just imagine the fun you can have with it after checking all the features.

To start with, this is a spy cam so it has to be small in order to be placed in strange places for important observations, you wouldn’t want a gigantic camera ruining your projects, now would you? It only measures 3 x 3 x 4cm which can be considered too tiny for a camera.

Gift Ideas for the Spy in your Life

December 7th, 2006 by Al in Gadget Gift Ideas, Spy Stuff

It may not be the wisest of moves buying other people spy equipment but hey if you’re married to 007 and are stuck for a gift then check these out:

GPS Tracker

USB GPS TrackerWe wrote about this exceptionally cool GPS tracker earlier in the year and it became our first ever Digg front page (which meant lots of traffic and new readers (thank you digg)).

Once the tracker has done it’s travels and it’s back in your possession you simply connect it to you PC and download the data. This data can then be plotted on Google Earth, Mapquest, maps.google.com and Virtual Earth to show exactly where it’s been, how long it took and how it got there.

I just think this is so cool (may of said cool a record number of times in this post) it obviously has the spy functionality of tracking somebody else but to me it is even more useful for tracking your own holidays and backpacking adventures. So not only can you bore visitors with your holiday snaps you can also show them exactly where you went.

Available from from TG for $249.99.
