Slip ‘N Slide Hockey Rink

by Mark R

Summer is on where I am at, and it is a hot one. I recently got one of those Slip ‘N Slides for my daughter, but I wish I would have purchased this one.

I’m not certain how this Water Soaked Knee Hockey Rink compares to real hockey, and I think it would be better to compare this toy to Air Hockey.

This toy that you see in the picture here uses water from 30 tiny nozzles around it, and it makes the surface super slick. I like the over-sized puck, as it looks like a soft frisbee.

Frii Concept Bike

by Mark R

Some of you might remember our report on the INgSOC bike, a bicycle that definitely challenges our current diamond frame bike aesthetic. This Frii prototype is doing the same thing.

I’m going to assume that that the “ii” combination in “Frii” is pronounced like it is in “Wii”. That would mean that this is pronounced “free”.

It is certainly free of normal biking conventions, but that might be a good thing. Designed by the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design student Dror Peleg in Israel, the lightweight and colorful bike is made entirely of plastic, which includes the tires. The plastic tires insure that they never go flat, and it looks like the seat is all plastic too.

The INgSOC Concept Bike

by Mark R

Every once in a while, you will see some concept of a device that completely throws the old model of the device out the window.

Case in point, the INgSOC bike concept. As you can see, the traditional diamond frame has been replaced by this small camel’s hump design. By the way, this bike has a removable battery in the back for some electric riding, in case you were tired of pedaling.

Speaking of electronics, there is a battery charge indicator located conveniently on the handlebars like a fuel indicator on a car. In case you want to see more “F” than “E” on the indicator, you should know that a certain percentage of the pedaling energy will be charging the battery.

Bergmonch scooter can strap to the back

by Mark R

I’ve been wanting to take a bike up a mountain for a while now. Of course, I am out of shape, and probably won’t do those uphill pedals very well.

Fortunately, this Bergmonch (German for “Mountain Monk”) has got my back. In fact, it can fold up and be put on my back like a pack. So if there is a hill that the bike can’t climb, it can just go on the back. I suppose that I could walk it up, but the terrain might not allow that.

Granted, this Bergmonch does create a burden on my back that could be worse than Christian’s from The Pilgrim’s Progress. By the way, the Bergmonch isn’t really a bike, as it is technically a scooter.

FINIS introduces AquaPulse Heart Rate Monitor

by Edwin

They say that swimming is one of the better sports to get yourself involved in – after all, there is no impact on your joints, and you get a total body workout. Even better is this – you will end up as hungry as a horse right after your exercise since you’ve burnt up so many calories in the process, making you look slim and trim in no time at all. For those performance enthusiasts who want to make sure that they maximize their fitness regime via swimming, FINIS might have just the thing for you – the AquaPulse Heart Rate Monitor.

This is an interesting device since it is an audible version of a heart rate monitor. Small enough to fit into your goggle strap, all you need to do is attach the soft rubber clip to your earlobe, and take to the water like a duck. The infrared sensor is able to pick up your heart beat via your earlobe by capillary activity. Such information will then be relayed to you in real time audibly, now how about that?

SensoGlove helps improve your swing

by Edwin

If you are a huge fan of golfing, and practice your swings religiously, surely you are always on the lookout for something better to help reduce your overall score. It can be said that the game of golf does subscribe to the adage “practice makes perfect” in some way, but not 100%. After all, once you have conditioned your muscles to swing in a certain way, correcting or improving that swing could prove harder than expected.

Well, good thing there are tools out there which might help you improve your swing to a reasonable level. We are looking at the £49.99 SensoGlove, where it was specially constructed from ground up to help you improve your game. After all, the right grip goes a long way in the make up of a perfect swing, and a slight miscalculation or overexertion of strength might send the ball flying far from where you intended.

Darkfin Gloves

by Edwin

Ever wondered how it would feel like if you had the ability of Michael Phelps? OK, so his star has been fading the past few years since his feats at the Olympics, but that doesn’t mean you can just outswim the man at your whim and fancy right now. Perhaps you need some help, and if you are not as well endowed as Prince Namor, perhaps you might want to look into a little external help that comes in the form of the £21.99 Darkfin Gloves.

Yes, this pair of gloves will give you webbed hands so that you can generate more thrust than usual, helping propel you through the water unlike ever before. Made out of durable latex, they are more or less the most high tech flippers for your hands to date. It is said that each pair of Darkfin Gloves will increase the surface area of your hands by up to 70%, and even better news is, it comes in a range of sizes to fit both genders – even kids.

Change your bike’s gears, with your mind

by Mark R

Lately, I have been teaching my son to ride a bicycle, and it reminds me of my days of awkward bike riding. I remember that I had a hard time with changing the gears, but what if I could do it with my mind?

Parlee Cycles is apparently working on a concept bicycle made of carbon fiber that does just that. It is part of Toyota Prius Projects, and it uses a helmet equipped with neurotransmitters to read a wearer’s brainwaves. A wireless transmitter attached to the bike’s seat post gets the signal, and changes the gear.
