TheNetRunner Allows You To Work While Working Out

November 8th, 2007 by Carolyn in Miscellaneous Gadgets, Sport

thenetrunner.jpgI’m a runner. For me, there’s nothing better than getting in a good run after work while listening to some good music to unwind from the workday and to un-clutter my mind from all the business of the day.

But there seems to be some gluttons for punishment who just can’t seem to stop working long enough to exercise.

TheNetRunner is a device that attaches to your treadmill or other exercise machine that has a console and will securely hold your laptop (or portable DVD player) in place while you sweat away. The website touts all these benefits for using their product while working out, but my favorite is this quote:

If you like to surf the web, watch a movie, or need to work, but don’t have time to exercise, than you’re in luck. You can do all of that and EXERCISE at the same time with TheNetRunner. Simply strap your laptop to the console of your treadmill using TheNetRunner. It takes less than 30 seconds to set up! You can now work, surf the internet or watch movies, and walk your way to better health every day.

The problem it doesn’t solve is the one of getting you to work out in the first place. I also see a problem doing anything other than walking while using this with a laptop, especially for surfing the internet. I can see the increase of 2nd degree treadmill face burn injuries if these things become popular.

Now for playing a DVD, there’s another story. I think having your own desired video playing while you exercise would get more people working out - or at least not hate it so much.

You can pick one up for $99.00.

Switchboard could revolutionize winter sports market

November 7th, 2007 by Edwin in Sport

venomsnow.jpgThe Switchboard from Venomsnow could be just the tonic to revitalize the winter sports market by opening up a whole new segment, right beside skiing as well as the humble snowboard. According to Marcel Jonker, the double-hinged Switchboard could be seen as a natural evolution of the snowboard, but until that is proven, it could potentially end up as the kick-scooter of the ski slopes. This product from Holland is certainly an interesting one, and we’ll read more about it after the jump.

Official marathons ban iPods

November 2nd, 2007 by Edwin in Audio/Video Gadgets, Electronic Gadgets, Sport, Tech News, iPod gadgets

anti-ipod.jpgMusic is one part of humanity that speaks to our very own hearts - depending on the type of music listened to, it can either drive us to the very depths of despair or raise us up to ecstatic heights. When it comes to running a marathon, many people have already taken up the iPod and other MP3 players to keep them company during the 26.2 mile journey, but soon that habit could come to a pass. It seems that official marathon organizers have already banned portable audio devices for runners in competitive races, with the first of such bans to be enforced in the New York City Marathon that will be held this Sunday.

Waterproofing your iPod lets you Swim Differently

October 31st, 2007 by James in Audio/Video Gadgets, Sport, iPod gadgets

Waterproof ipod

It’s common practice people working out while rocking to their favorite tunes on iPod. But sadly, up until recently swimmers have had to rely on the theater of the mind to keep them occupied while they skimmed the waters lap after lap. Now budding Mark Spitzes can rock out just like everyone else thanks to the Neoprene Swimbelt … and a few other accessories that will waterproof your iTouch so it doesn’t short out from the water as you do the butterfly.

Lifebag is better late than never for keeping your head intact

October 26th, 2007 by James in Sport

Lifebag is better late than never for keeping your head intact
The idea behind it is pretty cool if you’re an extreme winter athlete. A wearable airbag that inflates around your head upon impact. This is the LIFEBAG. It wears like a backpack, and was actually invented to protect wayward skiers who find themselves in the wrong place at the wrong time staring down an avalanche. With danger imminent, the user can manually trigger airbag deployment by pulling a handle. Then, the 150 liter can inflates the airbags to provide your head with absolute safety.

Powertrain skates take pedestrians off road at quite a clip

October 24th, 2007 by James in Conceptual Gadgets, Miscellaneous Gadgets, Sport

iShoes

They feel like lead weights on your feet, but with the ability to travel up to 15 miles an hour, pedestrians and fans who can’t afford a Segway may not mind so much. The iShoes are the invention of Ilya Kaganovich from Plymouth, Minnesota, who, while on a trip to New York, thought there had to be a better way to get around town other than overpriced cab rides and jockeying for position on crowded subways. With the help of his brother Boris, who is an aerospace engineering student, they developed prototypes to test the concept. The iShoes were the result. And not only can they be used for going around town, but just about anywhere except the freeway.
