TurnSmart Mirror System

by AndrewD

I sit in my 15 year old Suburu, glancing at my fellow drivers with envy. Look at all of them with their fancy rear view mirrors and their LED turn signals. Psh, like I would want something like that anyway. Don’t look at me that way! No need for smugness! I already know you have a nicer car, no need to rub it in that you’re better looking and most likely better in bed too.

But there’s a few tricks up my sleeve which might just make me feel a little better about my crap-mobile, even if it’s not nearly as chic as the real thing. The TurnSmart Mirror System adds a set of wide rear view mirrors onto your current mirrors. These mirrors also happen to feature solar panels which power a set of super bright LED’s which sync with your turn signal. Solar panels! How about that, Mr. Smug Driver?!

C. Crane Calamity Kit

by Mark R

I think we all need to be prepared for emergencies, especially when it comes to power outages. You don’t want to be the unlucky guy in a blackout, unable to find batteries for the flashlight or the radio.

This is why you should purchase the three-piece Calamity Kit from C. Crane. All three of these devices included in the kit are wind-up powered, and very valuable in an emergency.

The first item is the Sherpa LED Flashlight, which requires no batteries, and will give a lot more light to a dark area than a candle.

The second item is the Indigo Lantern, an electric lantern which can really light up a large room. It also has a tiny light on it designed for spot lighting, and, like the Sherpa, requires no batteries.

Solar Powered Plant Pot keeps gardening interesting

by Ally

If you’re tired of all those boring little walkway lights to make your garden illuminated all through the night, this pot is a cute little alternative.  It works in the same way any of the other solar lamps works, it just happens to house a plant as well.  The odd little pot comes in either a chic looking white or the slightly geeky alternative which flashes between several different colors.  When you’re committed to being a bit of a gadget addict, you can’t have a pot that doesn’t do some other function besides hold a plant.

Peel and Stick Solar Panels from Power-Ply 380

by Mark R

If you’re like me, then you hate the high costs that you have to pay on your electric bill. In the past ten years that I have lived in my current home, my energy bill has doubled.

Perhaps I should find a way to supplement the cost of my energy bill by using renewable energy sources that aren’t tied to “the man”. And what better renewable energy source is there than the power of the sun?

In all honesty, I wouldn’t know where to begin with installing solar panels. I mean, how do you hook them up so you can get some practical power going? I do know that installing solar panels can be just as expensive as the panels themselves.

I could use some solar panels that have a peel-and-stick backing. Say, now there’s a great reason to purchase the Power-Ply 380 Peel and Stick Solar Panels.

All a user needs is a flat roof for these individual 8 x 4 foot tiles, and installation costs alone are reduced by 70 percent. This sounds like one those “too good to be true so it probably is” devices, but I think it is a step in the right direction for individual energy production. Any way to reduce the energy bill is always a good thing.

Noon Solar gets a new solar powered bag

by Ally

Anyone on the lookout for a solar bag should really keep an eye on Noon Solar, they are one of my favorite brands when it comes to bags with solar panels.  They have recently created yet another bag to add to their line.  If you’re unfamiliar with the company, they do create bags for both men and women.  A lot of their bags are kind of a handbag style, but they do have a couple unisex products as well.  The bags are all featuring sustainable products and some of them come with an odd little locket.  That locket is filled with dirt, to remind that the bag came from the earth and can be easily returned to it.

USB Solar Mobile Charger

by Edwin

Go green with the USB Solar Mobile Charger from Brando – this device features a 1,500mAh lithium battery, storing up juice harvested from the sun’s rays for a time when you need it most. It will feature connecting tips with cell phones, digital cameras, MP3 players as well as portable media players – heck, anything goes as long as there is a right adapter to fit your gizmo. Should the days be particularly overcast, there is always the AC charge ability that helps you juice up the USB Solar Mobile Charger via a power outlet or through a USB port. Perfect gadget for the traveling dad, and the price ain’t too shabby at $37 either.

The Solar Umbrella Globe Lights probably attracts bugs, big ones

by Ally

If you’re on the lookout for a bit of outdoor lighting for your deck, this solar umbrella would be a nice way to illuminate a bit of outdoor dining after dark.  The only issue is that with those bright and shiny lights hanging underneath the umbrella you’re going to end up attracting every bug around.  Citronella candles can only do so much when they are fighting against 3 orb-like bug magnets.  I would say that it’d be alright if you were in a screened in porch, but an umbrella kind of indicates that you’re outside.  Otherwise, you wouldn’t really need one.

The Protfolio recycled solar bag

by Ally

There have been a few very fashionable solar bags out there, yet there is something to be said for a solar bag that is simple and just does its job. Besides the fashionable options typically cost upwards of $500 a pop. If you keep it simple with a bag like this Protfolio it will end up being slighty cheaper and the simple black makes it good for both guys and girls. As opposed to the occasional brightly colored hand bags with solar panels slapped onto them, which are quite obviously for women only.
