Mitsubishi to deliver the 3D experience to your home via Diamond 3D projector

For those of you out there who still cannot get enough of stereoscopic 3D movies and would love to enjoy a similar cinematic experience at home, then the Mitsubishi Diamond 3D projector is definitely your cup of tea. Of course, if you’re going to attend CES 2011 like the Coolest Gadgets team is, then you would be more than happy to drop by Mitsubishi’s booth to see the Diamond 3D projector in action – bring along some Kleenex to wipe away all that drool just in case. Wayne Kozuki, product manager of Mitsubishi says that “We’ve heard that this is ‘the year of 3D. But Mitsubishi has been selling 3D-ready TVs since 2007, so it’s the home entertainment industry that is finally catching up to us.” Hmmm, pretty lofty words, hopefully they have the technology to remain ahead of the pack, eh?

Projectors do not really make headline news for one reason – they aren’t terribly interesting, with the only notable improvement being the brightness level as well as the recent availability of stereoscopic 3D or perhaps even wireless capability. My Review of the 3M Shoot and Share Camera Projector
The Shoot and Share by 3M is a combination of the currently popular brand of “candybar” design cameras like the Flip and a pico-projector.
These two come together to make a product that allows the user to snap a 5 Megapixel picture or shoot a 720p (1280 x 720) video, and then immediately project it on a big screen. Any blank wall will do, and the image can be as large as 65 inches on its diagonal.
The Shoot and Share is powered by a USB that also allows for easy downloading to a computer. It is capable of about 20 hours worth of video, which is about 32GB.

Optoma GT100 Mini Projector
Mini projectors haven’t really caught on ever since they were introduced to the masses some time ago, and we’re guessing that’s because there really isn’t a deep rooted need for one of these puppies. Well, that doesn’t mean manufacturers will stop churning out such devices, otherwise we wouldn’t have the £229.99 Optoma GT100 Mini Projector to play around with. Capable of throwing an image of up to 75-inches in size, the Optoma GT100 will play nice with just about any video game console, set top box, DVD players, notebooks as well as other compatible devices onto any flat surface.
The brightness level needs some looking into though at just 50 lumens, which means your room will need to be pretty dark – otherwise your audience will be treated to washed otu colors. Apart from that, external speakers are a must if you’re watching a movie on this thing since the integrated 1.5w speaker isn’t going to add much ambience to the whole situation. Maxing out at WVGA resolution (854 x 480), you can forget about watching High Definition videos on this thing, although regular DVDs will do just fine. The lamp life of 30,000 hours ought to last you for quite a number of years, as we don’t forsee this being used regularly. Reasonable enough to be placed under the Christmas tree though.
See Legos come to life with OASIS
Okay, this is about the neatest thing that you will see on Black Friday. Intel has been working on a system called OASIS (Object Aware Situated Interaction System) that combines projections with Lego.
This system uses cameras that can detect both objects and depth. As a result, it knows where the Lego toys are, and can even add a little bit of special effects with the practical application of some projectors.
I have a video of this OASIS in action after the jump if you want to see how it works, and it is the coolest thing to happen to Lego since the Mindstorms NXT.

AAXA Technologies has new M1 Ultimate Micro Projector

Pico projectors, tiny projectors, micro projectors, they’re all the same. After all, didn’t the Bard once said, “A rose by any other name would smell just as sweet”? Well, the world of pico projectors have certainly come a long way since their introduction to the world. We would say that earlier iterations were tiny and highly portable, but when it comes to performance, a lot is left to be desired. After all, their colors looked washed out, even unviewable under an averagely lighted room. AAXA Technologies might think that they have a game changer on their hands though with the new M1 Ultimate Micro Projector which we will look at in greater detail in the extended post.
