Two years ago, we had what may be the worst Christmas morning as a family. That’s because our dog disappeared overnight. We spent all Christmas Day looking for him and the next week was spent putting flyers all over the neighborhood, announcing it on radio, and posting on sites like Craigslist pictures with hope that someone would call us and say come get him.
Two weeks later, we got him back. He had gone on a “walkabout” and ended up 50 miles away – although in reality, someone found him down the street and took him home. They made a few calls with the number on his collar and finally, we were put in touch with the one who found him and got our dog back. But the holidays were a mixed bag that year since we had no idea where our pet was. This must’ve been the motivation behind PetsMobility’s PetCell.

August 30th, 2007 by Al in Pet Gadgets
If the telescopic poop catcher doesn’t work for you and your dog here’s a way to scoop the poop quickly and hygienically, the S3 Poop Scoop.
I must admit S3 isn’t a name that I’d instantly associate with poop scoopers but as poop scoopers go it’s pretty cool (I can’t believe I just typed that). It incorporates a light for night time dog walking action, and also resembles a baseball bat for self defence. I think if you hit anybody with a baseball bat full of crap they will probably back away.

Spoil Your Pet with a Cooling & Heating Pet Bed
August 8th, 2007 by Al in Pet Gadgets
This has got to be the ultimate in pooch pandering, the cooling and heating pet bed.
Recommended by veterinarians, it uses a thermoelectric device to produce either warm or cool air, from 60 to 102 F, which is evenly distributed by an internal fan through channels built into the high-density orthopaedic memory foam that makes up the beds cushion, providing consistent, therapeutic heat or cooling for resting pets. No air is blown directly onto your pet, and the fan is quiet, allowing pets to sleep undisturbed by either noise or vibration.
You can spoil your pet for $249.95 from Hammacher.
Climate Controlled Carrier allows pets to travel First Class
July 31st, 2007 by James in Miscellaneous Gadgets, Pet Gadgets, Wacky GadgetsIt costs about the same as a round trip economy class ticket, but it will let your pet fly first class. The Komfort Pets Carrier is a climate-controlled carrier, which automatically switches from heating to cooling and engages when temperature goes above 72 degrees and below 65 degrees through a patent-pending conduction/convection technology.
Studying how a pet controls it’s own body temperature, designers and veterinarians came up with a process by which the temperature of the carrier floor and airflow to the pet are simultaneously controlled. This allows for a system by which heat is drawn from the pet or warmth is provided as needed.
The Six Million Dollar Dog
July 22nd, 2007 by Edwin in Miscellaneous Gadgets, Pet Gadgets
We have all heard about prosthetics for humans and how it has helped those who have lost their limbs to achieve a newfound level of independence. In fact, bionic arms and legs have come a long way from being a useless piece of plastic, and are now capable of movement as well as handle what we take for granted everyday such as holding pressure and using just the right amount of strength in our grips. Prosthetics for animals, however, is relatively unheard of but we now have a Belgian Shepherd dog called Storm that has the honor of being the first pet in the world to be fitted with a prosthetic paw.

Technology aims to save turtles
July 7th, 2007 by Edwin in Electronic Gadgets, GPS gadgets, Pet Gadgets
Scientists from the University of Massachusetts have used a combination of orthodontic cement and duct tape in order to keep a postcard-sized waterproof computer in place on a turtle’s shell, hoping that this along with a new wireless communication network will be able to help biologists track snapping turtles which are headed towards the path of being an endangered species. This new wireless communication network will consist of constantly moving devices that are capable of storing and recording information via transmitting data from one device to another, saving information to a central location while powered by self-charging batteries.
