GPS Backpack to control dogs

by Mark R

What you are seeing here is a dog backpack developed at Auburn University, and it can control a canine from miles away.

I thought that this was inhumane when I first saw this, but the apparatus on the dog’s back isn’t made to harm man’s best friend. Apparently, it has vibrating side panels combined with tones in order to direct them without the use of electric shocks.

This backpack has a high resolution GPS system and a radio modem that can send a dog’s precise location to a computer, and then the user of that computer can direct a dog to a specific location.

Dog Dung Vacuum

by Edwin

Caring for Fido is no mean task – not only do you need to make sure that your pooch is potty trained around the house (be it indoors or outdoors), you will also need to make sure that your four-legged friend is well behaved in private and in public, where going through an obedience class is more often than not something most dog owners should take up if they want to have an outstanding canine citizen. When it comes to the issue of poop, I am still amazed that there are people out there who do not bother to pick up after their own dog, so if you know someone like that, perhaps getting the Dog Dung Vacuum might do them a world of good (while dropping a subtle hint, of course). This device will vacuum your pet’s waste into a disposable bag, doing away with the need to bend over and scoop the excrement by hand. This is made possible thanks to a 30,000-rpm motor that makes quick work of sucking up dog waste from grass, concrete, or even snow-covered ground into a plastic bag that removes for ease of disposal. A 12-hour charge offers up to 50 suction moments, making every penny of the $99.95 spent on this well worth it.

Dog Escape Preventer

by Edwin

How many of you out there have experienced your four legged friend zipping out from the door the moment you open it? For those who nod their head in affirmation, then you might be interested in picking up the $69.95 Dog Escape Preventer. As its name suggests, this unit will mount easily to just about any door frame, housing a vinyl barrier which clips to the door and unfurls when the door is opened. This would create a 31″ high, impenetrable blockade – of course, if your dog is involved in agility sports, then chances are it might just be able to make that jump, although it would be highly unlikely since agility dogs normally have to go through obedience classes, which in turn ensures they stay put until you give the command. The vinyl barrier is tear- and puncture-resistant, and can unclip from the door and automatically retract to store in the housing unit in a jiffy. While minor assembly is required, you won’t need a rocket science degree to get the Dog Escape Preventer fixed up.

FroliCat DART helps keep your feline friend occupied

by Edwin

While cats require a whole lot less attention compared to dogs, that doesn’t mean you can just leave them at home all day long, coming back from the office without even so much as give them a pat on the head. No sir, they too, need some level of attention and will have to keep themselves occupied mentally and physically too. Well, good thing there is this thing called technology which makes it possible to come up with the £29.99 FroliCat DART. Just what is the FroliCat DART all about? Well, for starters, this device delivers 360° rotation that will project laser patterns on the floor, letting your feline friend chase after it (or at least, attempt to). It will feature variable speed and timer settings, letting you go to work with peace of mind knowing that kitty won’t be bored as all get out that day with the FroliCat DART as its companion.

Canine Twitterer for human pleasure

by Edwin

Don’t you find it strange? Dogs don’t need stuff like social networking to keep in touch, as one (loving) master is all they ever need and/or want. I mean, who else is willing to remain cooped up at home the whole day long while you bring home the bacon, only to shower you with slobbery kisses at the end of the day? Such simple joys in life reflected by our four legged friends. We’re pretty sure they would find something like Twitter and Facebook meaningless even if they could read, so one deduction can be concluded from the Canine Twitterer – it is meant more for us humans to have our fun.

This tag allows a canine share its hijinks and innermost musings with all its followers on the Twitter microblogging site. A built=in motion sensor and microphone in the tag will “interpret” your pet’s activity, choosing an appropriate canine-centric message from one of 500 pre-loaded tweets. All tweets are sent from the tag to a USB receiver which is connected to your Internet-connected computer within a 100 foot radius, automatically updating their Twitter account. Guess this is good only for indoor dogs and lap dogs, since we don’t think this $29.95 device is waterproof to be used outdoors on extreme trips.

Dyson Groom Brush cleans up hair as you brush

by Ally

I love my dog, but he sheds like crazy.  I finally have made him a dog that is mostly outside just because I really didn’t want the hair everywhere.  Despite owning a fancy pet hair model vacuum the hair was still around.  Well Dyson now has a vacuum that not only cleans up the hair on the floor, but also the hair that’s still lightly clinging to your dog.

The Dart keeps you pets entertained

by Edwin

You know that dogs need both mental and physical exercise, so a tired good is a good dog. As for cats, they tend to find their own things to do whenever you’re not around, and you surely can’t walk a cat to have it shed any excessive energy which might translate to destructive behavior later on. Well, getting a toy for your cat might be a better idea to keep it occupied when you’re not around, where this automatic rotating laser light known as the Dart will feature variable speeds and timer settings, delivering up to 16 exciting play combinations. Perfect for keeping your cat distracted whenever you have other crucial stuff to attend to, and cannot afford to have any distractions. Retailing for $29.99 a pop, it will also help exercise your pets, but it is no substitute for walking your dog (yes, you can use the Dart with pooches as well). Just don’t look at the 360 degree laser straight, otherwise your retina might just burn.

USB Desktop Aquarium and Organizer

by Ally

There have been USB powered aquariums before, but the ones I have seen used fake fish.  Instead this handy little aquarium can hold real fish to keep you entertained throughout the day.  Plus, to sweeten the deal a little it organizes your desktop accessories and offers a little bit of light.  All around it’s a pretty serious multi-gadget.
