USB Photo Scanner: A much-needed device

by Mark R

USB Photo Scanner

I’m sure we were not prepared for the digital era of photos. Don’t get me wrong, I think it is great that all of us have cheap digital cameras that allow us to download our greatest pics into our computer, but most of us still have piles of old photos that really need to be made digital. That sounds like more than just a weekend project.

The solution is here with the USB Photo Scanner. This device uses a 5 Megapixel CMOS sensor to scan photos in just minutes. Sure, you could do that on a scanner, but that would take a lot more time as the USB Photo Scanner does it a lot faster.

DisplayLink releases OSX driver

by Chris

DisplayLink Mac

I’ve been a huge fan of MacOS for a very long time, even if I do spend most of my time on a Windows machine these days. That’s why I always hate seeing Mac users get the short end of the stick. Well I’m happy to report that the guys at DisplayLink have been working hard and have delivered a MacOS version of their USB video driver.

DX1 Input System is the ultimate customizable keyboard

by Chris

DX1

I’m the kind of guy that loves customizing his computer. No boring beige box and single monitor for me. I’ve got a nice window in the side of the case to show off my awesome hardware and liquid cooling system. The two wall-mounted LCDs help me stand out a bit too. However, one thing I haven’t really thought about is customizing my keyboard. Sure, I can program a few function keys to my liking, but nothing like this DX1 keyboard.

Tengu lip syncs to tunes

by Edwin

tengu.gifGadget mavens Firebox has finally made available the Tengu USB desktop toy which is guaranteed to add a whole lot of excitement to your world. Perfect for folks who have very few or no friends at all, Tengu will be able to keep you company at the office by making different faces according to its mood. In addition, he isn’t as tone deaf as you might think despite the lack of biological ears – Tengu is smart enough (or at least he was programmed to be) to lip sync according to the music that is played, making it look as though he is singing his heart out with you as the only sad audience!

USB Rotatable 4-Port Hub

by Edwin

USB hubs are always welcome in my home, especially with the vast amount of USB gadgets in the market these days. Some USB hubs come with a poorly-designed exterior, where the ports are placed too close together that you can’t make use of all of them whenever you’re faced with USB products that have rather fat connectors. The USB Rotatable 4-Port Hub offers the convenience of utilizing all four USB ports available, since it can be rotated accordingly. No harm in dropping $12 for a gadget like this IMHO, as it will definitely come in handy on your travels.

USB Star Hub II

USB devices are dime a dozen these days, and it can get pretty tricky trying to get all of them hooked up to your computer or notebook which has extremely limited USB ports. If you happen to want a USB port of sorts, why not consider the USB Star Hub II? Here’s the product description, in completely broken English (I’ve left it unedited to contribute to the quirkiness of the entire device).

USB Star Hub II allows you to connect 4 different USB devices at the same time. Each port can turn 180° that make you more convenience to use and the colourful design can help to decorate your desk.

The USB Star Hub II retails for $12 a pop.

Mimoco takes fashion up by another step

by Edwin

mimoco-tokidoki.jpg

Fashion and technology often share a rather uneasy relationship with one another, but time and effort has proven that both parties are willing to move to an agreement. Mimoco, the Boston-based manufacturer of its Mimobot designer USB flash drives has just announced its new tokidoki Mimobot collection that is in line with the company’s goal of ‘bringing style and soul to personal tech devices’. This series holds the distinction of being the first fashion-oriented release from Mimoco, and could be the turning point where USB flash drives are transformed into everyday fashion accessories for the masses. I know that bling USB flash drives have been around for quite a while now, but most of the time they are out of reach from the masses due to expensive diamonds and other gems adorning the surface – not so with the tokidoki Mimobot.

USB Calculator does number crunches

by Edwin

4-port-calc.jpgNow here’s a calculator that does more than just crunch figures – it has the capability to function as a USB hub, too! Whenever you plug it into your computer (via USB, of course), you get an automatic keypad to play around with, making this a pretty useful traveling companion for laptop keyboards that often shave off the numeric keypad in favor of portability. Would you pay $23.99 for this?
