USB Flower Fan

April 26th, 2008 by Edwin in PC Gadgets, USB Gadgets

Summer is coming soon, so it makes perfect sense that the mercury is going to shoot up pretty soon with everyone opting for thinner cotton shirts. The USB Flower Fan provides some much needed relief, drawing power from your computer’s USB port in order to power the USB Flower Fan. Alternatively, if you aren’t in the vicinity of a USB port, there is always the option to use a trio of AAA batteries instead. The blades are made out of plastic for your safety, and despite that, it is able to generate a pretty strong breeze to help you cool down. The USB Flower Fan retails for $11.50 a pop.

WiFi adapter makes you scream “I have got to get me one of these!”

Remember the scene in INDEPENDENCE DAY when Jeff Goldblum places a satellite like dish on the roof of his dad’s car and triangulates the signal of his wife’s cellphone to determine where she was in the White House? His dad asks him how he can do that and he replies “all cable repair men know how to do this, pop.” Well, the Hi-Gain USB Wireless-300N Dish Adapter from Hawking Technologies won’t triangulate a signal in the White House, but it will boost weak WiFi signals in areas where a signal isn’t very strong to begin with.

F1 Metal USB Drive

April 25th, 2008 by Edwin in PC Gadgets, USB Gadgets

metal-usb-drive.jpgHere’s something you can use as a Monopoly piece - a metal F1 car that actually carries some internal flash memory within. Unlike its real world counterpart, I don’t think that the speed of its data transfers are anything to shout about. It is available for $10.93 a pop with a catch - you’ll need to order at least 500 pieces in order to get that price for 2GB worth of portable memory.

Hawking Technologies Wireless-300N WiFi Networking Adapter

April 25th, 2008 by Edwin in Electronic Gadgets, PC Gadgets, USB Gadgets

hawking-300n1.jpgHawking Technologies has recently announced that it will begin to ship the first Wireless-300N WiFi Networking Adapter which sees an integration of second generation Dual Antenna Dish Technology for extreme WiFi performance. Shaped after a miniature satellite dish, the wireless adapter features a Hi-Gain dual-antenna feed design which is capable of boosting WiFi distances by up to 600% in comparison to standard embedded applications. I guess the folks at Hawking Technologies got it spot on when they remarked, “The problem with wireless networks these days is not the speed, it’s the distance. Regardless of how fast your network is, if you can’t reach the wireless signal, it simply won’t work. We understand this at Hawking and are very excited to announce the release of the HWDN1 Hi-Gain Wireless-300N Dish Adapter. Our second generation Dual Antenna Dish Technology builds from our very successful Wireless-G Dish antenna design and boosts the performance in both speed and range. The result is the most powerful 802.11n USB network adapter on the market.”

Kensington Ci70 keyboard has USB 2.0 ports

April 24th, 2008 by Edwin in PC Gadgets, USB Gadgets

kensington-kb-usb.jpgJust like hard drive space, you can’t have too many USB ports as well. Kensington agrees with this adage with their new Ci70 keyboard that features a couple of USB 2.0 ports, expanding your computer’s connectivity even more. I guess some monitors and now even keyboards come with USB 2.0 ports - what will you wager on the next peripheral to include additional ports? Printers, scanners, or even mice? I think the former two are feasible but definitely not a mouse, since you’ll be moving it all over the place most of the time anyway. A trackball would fare much better in this aspect. The Kensington Ci70 keyboard boasts a 35% smaller footprint and low-profile design, featuring five hot keys for quick access to mail, media, and search, while media keys offer volume control, track control, play and pause. It will retail for $49.99 and is now available for pre-order from Amazon.

jt-baby.jpg

Most people would have built up a pretty respectable collection of USB flash drives by now, and the Jt Baby USB flash drive would make a fine addition to any collection. This stylish mass storage device can function as a cell phone charm, making it a snap to tote around your data wherever you go. It doubles up as a boot device as long as your motherboard supports USB-ZIP or USB-HDD as the first boot device through the BIOS. The 2GB version will come in black, green or purple colors, while the 4GB model is slightly more cheery with blue, orange and red colors. You can pick up the 2GB and 4GB Jt Baby USB flash drive for $22 and $37, respectively.

ion-vcr-2pc.jpgSo you’re part of the remnant on this earth that still owns video tapes but have run out of players to play them. Why not digitize these video tapes instead? At least you will be able to loop them infinitely on your PC, and best of all is there is no need to rewind those tapes once you’re done as everything can be done at the click of a button. IOGEAR USB 2.0 External DVI Video Card

April 22nd, 2008 by Edwin in PC Gadgets, USB Gadgets

iogear-usb.jpg

Are you one to work with multiple monitors? Well, I would assume that you have a pretty beefy computer system to be able to handle a multiple monitor set up, but do spare a thought for folks who want to do the same without splurging on expensive new hardware. IOGEAR thinks it has the solution with a USB 2.0 External DVI Video Card, instantly opening up an additional DVI or VGA computer screen via a USB connection. All you need to do to start rocking to two monitors is to hook up the adapter to the USB port, install the included driver and you’re good to go. There is no more hassle of opening up a dusty computer case nor running the risk of suffering cuts whenever you try to slide in a new video card. Perfect for folks who want to be more productive despite using leased equipment that prohibits one from opening up the chassis and adding in/removing components.
