For those who love all things shiny, you’ll be pleased to take note that S.T. Dupont has released a 2GB USB flash drive made out of solid palladium. This luxurious high tech gadget comes with the company’s trademark diamond-head pattern and is available in turquoise, pink, and black colors. You probably won’t have any trouble picking one of these up since the $700 price tag won’t see anyone lining up for it.

Music Games allow kids to Jam

August 23rd, 2007 by James in Audio/Video Gadgets, Childrens Gadgets, Electronic Gadgets, Gadget Gift Ideas, Gaming Gadgets, PC Gadgets, Software, Tech News, USB Gadgets

Hannah Montana Music Jam

Last year it was Dance Dance Revolution – a game that allowed users to get a work out while they did the two step to fast paced megahit. Then came Guitar Hero – which allowed axe wielding wannabes to follow hard core riffs and get high scores.

Now, it’s all about the Jam as new games go into interactive, yet social gaming. Witness Disney’s latest video game for Nintendo DS that’s based on the hit family TV show “Hannah Montana.” Called the Hannah Montana Music Jam this game lets players use four different instruments for some stellar high fidelity performance. And the handheld game takes advantage of the DS’s wireless networking ability to not only get kids to rock out in concert, but to record it as well. And the quality is out of this world with players strumming their Nintendo DS touch screen to master instruments including lead, bass and rhythm guitars, or ripping the digital skins with with drums - all in an effort to help Hannah win a competition.

The cost is about $30, and will be out come October. Meanwhile, you can check out the Hannah game in action over at YouTube.

USB-powered Mini Greenhouse brings life to desktop

August 21st, 2007 by Edwin in Electronic Gadgets, Office Gadgets, PC Gadgets, USB Gadgets

3usb-greenhouse.jpg

Most offices are nothing but dreary places, so why not spruce it up with some flowers? This USB-powered Mini Greenhouse allows you to do exactly that without dirtying your workplace. Each purchase comes with a packet of marigold seeds to get you started along with some artificial soil. Included software must be installed on your Windows-based computer, enabling you to monitor the growth rate of your plants in a scientific manner. The artificial sun lamp (with an adjustable height, I might add) works great if you plan on growing these plants in some dark, dank basement where sunlight is as scarce as hair on a bald man’s head. The Mini Greenhouse measures 9″ x 6.5″ x 6.5″ and retails for $19.99 each.

August 21st, 2007 by James in PC Gadgets, USB Gadgets

Wi-Fire

That’s where Wi-Fire can come in handy next time you’re looking for a hotspot. Designed by hField Technologies, the Wi-Fire uses a powerful directional antenna & receiver in concert with proprietary software to find and enhance normal Wi-Fi signals. The result is a promise of wireless Internet access from up to 1,000 feet away–three times the range of your internal wireless adapter.

Flash Padlock drive from Corsair

August 17th, 2007 by Edwin in Electronic Gadgets, PC Gadgets, USB Gadgets

corsairflashpadlock.jpgCorsair is famous for their line of memory products, and the latest to come out from their stables would be the Flash Padlock. This USB 2.0 flash drive is different from the rest as it offers a greater level of security, approaching from the hardware point of view instead of the traditional software encryption method. Each Flash Padlock comes with an integrated 9-digit PIN keypad that prevents unauthorized access without the correct PIN. Whenever removed from a computer, all the contents are locked up securely, making it truly imprevious to nefarious keystroke loggers and brute force hacks. The Corsair Flash Padlock works across Mac, Linux, and Windows platforms, and will come in 1GB and 2GB flavors that retail for $30 and $40 respectively. Ah well, I guess you now have another PIN number to remember if you ever pick this up.

Suck UK offers Mix Tape USB

August 13th, 2007 by Edwin in Electronic Gadgets, USB Gadgets

retrousb.jpgJust when you thought packaging ideas have gotten old for USB flash drives, along comes the Mix Tape USB from Suck UK.

Remember back in the days before digital music players and MP3s? If you do, then you probably made compilations of all your favourite music, to share with your friends and loved ones, on good old fashioned blank cassette tapes. If you miss making mix tapes this product will inspire you again! Home taping never killed music!

I must say this is one of the more attractively packaged USB flash drives ever, coming in the form of a cassette cover. Looks pretty neat from all angles, eh?
