Atomic Bass Headphones from Radius

July 23rd, 2008 by Mark R in Audio/Video Gadgets, USB Gadgets

According to the Radius site, the Atomic Bass is the “Official Headphone of the Hip-Hop Genre”. That has got to be one of the toughest slogans to prove, and I highly suggest they test its tonal balance on several hip-hop artists before they make that claim.

However, after listening for myself, I definitely hear how good they are. The clear sound might have something to do with its unique shape. You can’t really see the angle in this photo, but it causes the headphone to penetrate the ear deeper. It almost feels like an ear plug the way it can cut off background noise.

The headphones also have another unique look. Normally, when headphones branch out, the sections are equal. The Atomic Bass has a unique U-style of cable, and so one is not equal length, yet each earphone can fit either ear. It can fit normally in the ear, or rotate the earphone pieces back so they rest on the outer ear.

Another terrific feature is the impedance. Normal headphones have about 16Ω, but the Atomic Bass has 32Ω.

The Atomic Bass headphones are made of the same material as the iPod nano, with a gold plated stereo mini-plug. They are available everywhere in a variety of colors for $39.95.

The lighted Ur. Frog Wrist Rest

July 21st, 2008 by Ally in PC Gadgets, USB Gadgets

Not too long ago the Croissant Wrist Rest made its way around the net, coming with a fresh bread scent.  However, this latest wrist rest is definitely way cooler.  First of all, this squishy little frog can be hooked up to your USB port and to activate the pretty lights.  Nothing is cooler than a squishy glowing frog, it’s just the rules.  Although, it does look a little morbid, since it looks more like a frog that was recently run over by a truck.  Well maybe not a truck, probably just some evil little kid with a wagon or something equally small and fatal.

The USB Cooler Mouse straight from Thanko

July 18th, 2008 by Ally in Electronic Gadgets, PC Gadgets, USB Gadgets

Remember all those bizarre Thanko products that were exclusive to Japan?  Well, turns out Thanko is opening up a shop for those of us in the US.  Which is partially great news, because then I won’t have to mess with translating the page just to see the speccs of all their strange products.  It won’t open till August, so as of now we still have to translate things over to English.  Which includes this USB Cooler Mouse.

USB Watch tells time, looks geek chic

July 17th, 2008 by AndrewD in USB Gadgets

Let’s examine two trends of geeky gadget hunting. Trend #1, gadgets that are made using recycled computer parts. Check. Trend #2, hooking everything and anything to a USB port. Check, check! Oh, and maybe there is a third trend. Trend #3, watches. They’re always chic for the gadgetry guru.

The Timeless Watch designed by Design-Brothers is a hybrid of all of these trends into one ridiculously awesome timepiece. The Timeless Watch stores power from your USB port in its rechargeable battery. But the real kicker is that the watch clasp is actually a USB port with a specially made latch.

Microsoft Arc mouse leaked

July 16th, 2008 by Edwin in PC Gadgets, USB Gadgets

Microsoft does not only dabble in software, they do have their fingers dipped in hardware as well. Case in point, the range of notebook mice as well as the Microsoft Sidewinder gaming mouse. Today we have a leaked image of a new wireless mouse known as the Microsoft Arc. Scant information is available concerning the Arc at this point in time, but we do know that it features a rear half that folds in order to ease your storage woes when traveling. You will be able to pick up this interesting looking hardware this holiday season for $59.95 a pop.

A USB Owl with healing powers

July 16th, 2008 by Ally in Electronic Gadgets, PC Gadgets, USB Gadgets, Wacky Gadgets

Once a person has gone to all of the usual avenues to fix whatever their ailment, eventually they usually resort to other less conventional forms.  Apparently one company has decided to try to sucker those that are looking for an alternative out of their money.  They are selling an owl with mysterious healing powers.  Did I mention it’s USB powered?  If you were wondering if maybe historically or perhaps within a particular culture owls were believed to have healing powers, as far as I can find that’s not the case.  Most see owls as a symbol of deception, insight and some believe them to be shape shifters.

The Russian steampunk mouse

July 16th, 2008 by Ally in DIY Gadgets, Electronic Gadgets, PC Gadgets, USB Gadgets

Steampunk is one of those trends that makes me extremely sorry that I haven’t the slightest bit of crafting skills to make my own steampunk gadgets.  Purely because steampunk is usually very expensive, so unless you can make your own most of us will never get our hands on any of our own.  This one was created by a Russian modder who posted his project in a forum for us all to drool over.  He’s nice like that.  He even crafted a box to display it in.  He doesn’t give a single bit of fun details on how long it took or what he used.

Hacked!: The USB Drive That No One Will Steal

July 14th, 2008 by AndrewD in USB Gadgets, Wacky Gadgets

Some of you readers are hesitant to use USB drives for sensitive data. And rightfully so. Small enough to be easily misplaced and a little too likely to end up in the wrong hands, USB drives which aren’t securely protected through passwords or other encryption just aren’t for the paranoid.

We’d feel a lot more safe knowing that no one in their right mind would even think about stealing our USB drive. The Hacked! drive, designed by Windell Oskay is one piece of storage which no sane person would take a second glance at. other than out of sheer curiosity.
