One thing that I tend to find strangely relaxing is upgrading my computer. I love putting my PC up on the workbench and installing new components. I’ll even rearrange the cabling to be more efficient if I can, because I love to keep things neat and tidy in there. Of course there are many people that think I’m crazy and would rather buy a new computer than crack their case. This new Sound Blaster X-Fi Surround 5.1 from Creative allows you to upgrade your sound output without the need to install a PCI card.

In the never ending world of USB type gadgets we now have the Digital Clock Calendar with built in USB Hub. The clock/calendar part displays time, date, temperature and also works as an alarm clock, timer and has a calendar. But, the “magic” doesn’t stop there. The Digital clock also features a 4 port USB hub allowing you to connect up to 4 USB type devices together.

The 4 port USB Clock costs $20 and is available from Gadget4all.

Google Recycled Mini Wireless Mouse
May 10th, 2008 by Edwin in PC Gadgets, USB Gadgets
The Google Recycled Mini Wireless Mouse is definitely one of the cuter peripherals I have come across, and it adds to the ‘fun’ feeling that the company offers even while at work. This diminutive piece of hardware comes with a Wi-Fi dongle stored on it, and has an 800 dpi resolution while being made out of recycled plastic. It will come in blue or red colors, and the $19.20 mouse even ships in recycled packaging to keep those green advocates quiet. Perfect in keeping in line with the company’s “Do no evil” mantra.

A USB Drive You Can Hang On The Clothesline
May 9th, 2008 by AndrewD in USB Gadgets
As you sit at home with all of your big expensive appliances, it’s hard to contemplate that there are still plenty of people who still dry their clothes the old fashion way, by hanging their wet laundry on a clothesline. The Spincaz is a USB drive which reminds us of the simple ways of doing things we take for granted.
The Spincaz acts as any other wooden clip would. You can attach it to your clothes for a humorous garment accessory, or even hang it out to dry in the air with your clothes. Though hanging an electronic on a wet rag is probably not the best idea if you feel like using your USB drive again at some point.
Green House EXC-ESA2
May 9th, 2008 by Edwin in Electronic Gadgets, PC Gadgets, USB Gadgets
Green House has just released its GH-EXC-ESA2 card that increases the connectivity of your notebook. It will feature a couple of 3.0Gbps eSATA slots, a JBOD external drive, and support for RAID 0/1. Not only will it come in the older PCMCIA Type II model, there will also be a PCI Express version. Both devices have been certified to run on both Windows XP and Vista, so Mac owners are out of the loop yet again. Bummer! No idea on how much this costs, nor whether it will be available outside of Japan or not.

EVGA USB Video cards are the cheap and easy way to add an extra monitor
May 7th, 2008 by Chris in Electronic Gadgets, PC Gadgets, USB Gadgets
A few years ago I acquired my first video card which had more than one output. I recall shortly after coming upon a spare monitor which I quickly made space for on my desk. Since then I’ve never considered going back to a single monitor configuration. While almost every video card you’ll find on the shelf has at least two outputs, many midrange desktops don’t have that option. Rather than forcing you to crack open your case, these new external USB cards from EVGA are a simple way to add an extra display to your desktop.
Tiny hand painted keyboards will set your desk apart from the rest
May 7th, 2008 by Chris in Electronic Gadgets, PC Gadgets, USB Gadgets
If I asked you to describe your keyboard, I’m sure that most people wouldn’t have much more to say aside from color and the name of the manufacturer. Honestly, the only thing special about mine is the fact that the keys glow red so I can see it in the dark if I feel so inclined. However, if you’re the kind of person that hates the ordinary, you should check out these hand painted keyboards.
Turn your old tapes into USB hubs
May 4th, 2008 by Chris in DIY Gadgets, Electronic Gadgets, PC Gadgets, USB Gadgets
Ah, the VHS tape. I have so many fond memories of thee. We had such great times as I adjusted the tracking on the VCR (after I had figured out how to get it to stop blinking 12:00 of course) and the countless hours I spent rewinding you over the years. They were good times, but with my DVDs I don’t have to mess with any of that. Which is of course why I purged my collection of tapes about a year ago. I can’t really say that I miss them, but if I did, I could always turn one into a USB hub and stare at it every day.
