Donut USB flash drives
Donuts – the favorite snack of law enforcers in the US is now available in a delicious looking form, but unfortunately you can’t sink your teeth into this glazed offering as it stores bits and bytes instead of calories. These tiny USB flash drives come in the shape of a donut and will be available in three flavors – traditional chocolate frosting, strawberry, and a weird green color. If the man in your life is a cop, this would definitely make a pleasant present.

Videos from PC to TV with a simple drag and drop
Well, it takes just a tad more than that. But thanks to SanDisk’s TakeTV, video fans can now download their favorite DivX, Xvid, and MPEG4 videos from the web and watch them on TV simply by dragging them onto a USB drive and then plugging the drive into the PC via this special gadget. There’s no encoding, no authoring or burning to DVD, no networking. Just a simple drag and drop. The TakeTV does this thanks to the video-out docking station, which translates the PC video format into a signal the TV can read. The TakeTV docking station accepts the USB drive an, like a palm sized DVD player, sends the TV signal via the composite, S-video, stereo audio outputs. The Take TV couldn’t be simpler.

Go wooden with DIY keyboard

Now this isn’t exactly the most environmentally friendly of all computer peripherals, but at least it is more biodegradable than your standard plastic 101-key keyboard. Hailing from Japan, this DIY wood keyboard requires you to actually cut each key out yourself, placing them in the order of your choice. Granted, you would probably choose the QWERTY layout but the weirder ones among you would probably settle for DVORAK or something more original. I suppose this wood was not cut from virgin forests, so don’t feel too guilty about picking one of these €200 DIY wood keyboards up. At the very least, you can burn it to keep you warm during the cold winter months especially after oil has just breached the psychologically important $90/barrel mark.

Universal Music to sell singles on USB drives

Universal Music is taking a different approach where selling singles are concerned – by releasing them on USB memory sticks. This new format aims to stop rapidly declining music sales by offering an alternative format to those in the 12 to 24 year old demographic. The price of each USB single will hover slightly above $10, which is roughly $4 higher than current CD singles. Don’t these guys get it yet – the good days are over, and digital media distribution is the way of the future. Why not learn how to embrace it by operating in a leaner and more efficient manner instead of chasing after something that is bound to fail?
