Desktop Sidebar 1.05 Build 109 Beta

February 6th, 2006 by Keith in Miscellaneous Gadgets, Software

Desktop Sidebar

Before Windows Vista is released, Microsoft announced several new features that will come in the next generation of Windows Operating System (OS), and a Sidebar is one of them. However, before Windows Vista is released, there are already several other softwares “copying” the idea of Sidebar. Google Desktop captured the idea and came up with its very own Search engine, embedded within the sidebar. Besides Google, Desktop Sidebar was one of the first few to release its own sidebar, and also WATSON 2.0 which I had written something about it last September.

Microsoft IE 7 Beta 2

After trying out Microsoft’s Internet Explorer (IE) Beta 1 for the past couple of months. At that time, the software was never a release to the public and at times, often sought for by computer geeks and enthusiasts. About three days ago, Microsoft decides to release the Beta 2 version of their very own Internet Explorer to the public for preview release. This move has tactically capture the hugh bulk of Window users and hardly anyone who surfs the internet would be ignorant of the “international-wide” release.

January 22nd, 2006 by Keith in Miscellaneous Gadgets, Software

Cibernaut Logo

Unlike most internet browsers, i.e. Microsoft Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera or Netscape, Cibernaut has introduced totally new browsing features into its very own browser, Cibernaut version 2.28. Just like Firefox is based on Mozilla’s source code, Cibernaut is written based on Microsoft’s Internet Explorer (IE) browser engine. Thus, as expected, Cibernaut allows surfing sites that are IE compliance with ease. This includes MSN websites that require only IE browsers to access.

Thunderbird hits 1.5… nearly

December 29th, 2005 by Marc in Software

Thunderbird logo
Apparently the Mozilla email client, Thunderbird, has had another spurt of development and hit version 1.5, RC2 status. This happened in November so I’ve been very slow in watching it and there’ll probably be a new one along any time now…

I’m a fan of Thunderbird - it’s portable, fairly feature packed and most importantly of all it renders HTML mails without running any embedded scripts, unlike outlook that simply embeds IE with all the security holes that go with it. It also displays HTML without the graphics by default, saving you mail download time (and potential embarresment!)

1.5 features various tweaks to stability, security and the UI but the big news for many people is that you can now use “forward” as an action on the email rules list - a long awaited feaure.

If you’re not using it now, it’s well worth a look-see. Download from mozilla.org
