Belkin’s Universal Media Reader

November 9th, 2009 by Mark R in PC Gadgets, USB Gadgets

STD1_F4U003I don’t know about you, but I have way too many memory cards. My cell phone has a micro SD, my camera has an SD, not to mention all the other gadgets I have. Even though I want all the files on these mobile devices to eventually make their way into my computer, it somehow just never happens.

I suppose this is why most of the newer computers have card-reading slots. Too bad I don’t have one of those. I did have access to the Belkin Universal Media Reader, and I’m now able to get all my scattered files into one convenient place.

The Universal Media Reader allows the user to drag and drop files from one place to another place, whether it be to or from your computer, or simply exchanging files from one card to the other. It supports all kinds of card formats including MS/MS Duo, SD/MMC/MiniSD, M2, SmartMedia/xD, CF/Microdrive, and Micro SD.

More Courier details leaked

November 6th, 2009 by James in Conceptual Gadgets, PC Gadgets
More details have emerged about the operating systems and applications that power Microsoft's new Courier Tablet PC.

More details have emerged about the operating systems and applications that power Microsoft's new Courier Tablet PC.

Details about Microsoft’s alleged bookish tablet PC are beginning to surface, and with every bit leaked, the anticipation rises. Courier, the dual screen tablet which we reported about here a few months back, looks more like a book reader should look, but also enables a “cliff notes” representation of the data files saved on it, but also contains a searchable “journal overview” which enables users to search by subject, keyword, or other criteria.

Microsoft shows off its next-gen computing muscles on campuses nationwide

November 6th, 2009 by Mark R in Conceptual Gadgets, PC Gadgets

microsoft_research_glass_display_prototypeEven though Microsoft could probably easily rest on the profits from Windows 7, it is always good to hear them working on new ways of interfacing with computers. Lately, chief research and strategy officer Craig Mundle has been going from college to college, showing off the latest next-gen computer prototype.

Mundle has a lot of interesting things to say about the way computers are headed. One of his demonstrations includes a computer that can project its images onto a pane of glass in front of him. He says that the future will probably bring about a workstation that will include multiple displays, that will eventually work their way into 3-D images. I can’t help but agree with him.

Will Disposable Laptops become popular in the future?

November 6th, 2009 by James in Conceptual Gadgets, Eco Gadgets, Electronic Gadgets, PC Gadgets
Recyclable laptops made of paper could be popular in the future, and good for the environment.

Recyclable laptops made of paper could be popular in the future, and good for the environment.

Our friends at Yanko are working overtime again trying to come up with environmentally friendly electronics which won’t pollute our landfills. And this time they’ve come up with a recyclable paper laptop. That’s right. A paper computer which can be thrown away once it’s no longer wanted or needed. Considering Moore’s Law means computing power doubles about every 18 months, a disposable laptop may be a good idea. Here’s the thinking …

Transformers 2 Movie on 4GB USB Stick

November 6th, 2009 by Ally in PC Gadgets, USB Gadgets

tranformers-usb-2

Although the second Transformer movie didn’t exactly get an outstanding reaction, some people are probably still interested in picking up the sequel.  It’s a part of the series, so it’s nice to have around.  Maybe after a while you’ll stop noticing those spots in the movie that used to drive you crazy.  Well if you’re going to pick up the movie, this is one way to do it. You’ll get the movie as well as a USB drive.

The Sanwa USB Hub with 12 ports

November 5th, 2009 by Ally in PC Gadgets, USB Gadgets

400_HUB009_1

Although most people are perfectly capable of getting by with a small hub, there are times when the world could use one of these mega hubs.  Likely there are very few that would need this for their at home computer, but it still could be a very useful device.  Especially since it’s done in such a way that could make cable management a little easier.

PrintBrush seems way too good to be true

November 4th, 2009 by Mark R in PC Gadgets

PrintBrush_redI don’t know about you, but I just can’t stand printing. It usually never goes well, and the final document never looks like what is on the display. Not only that, I always run out of ink at the worst possible time.

Therefore, I always put off printing jobs as much as possible, and I really look forward to the day when we really are a paperless society. Since I don’t see that happening in the next few years, perhaps I should invest in the PrintBrush.

Just watch the video of the PrintBrush after the jump. If that doesn’t sell you with that, I don’t know what will. I mean, who wouldn’t want to have a printer that allows you to just print a document like you would erase a blackboard?
