Feng Shui USB flash drive
Crystals play a pivotal role in the world of Feng Shui, and what better way to channel some good vibes to your workdesk than with this crystal-enhanced USB flash drive? I wonder whether it helps prevent virus attacks and corrupted data on your computer while using this. Still, it is a rather interesting USB flash drive to own, except that you can’t wear this around your neck or place it in your pocket as you will probably end up hurting yourself with the sharp edges accidentally. The 1GB crystal USB flash drive retails for $30 from Etsy.

3D Internet is in the works
Both IBM and Linden Lab (the latter being the creator of the virtual world that has taken the world by storm, known as Second Life) has just announced that they will be developing new technologies as well as methodologies based on open standards in an attempt to help advance the future of 3D virtual worlds. The possibilities of a 3D Internet is currently being explored by more and more enterprises and consumers, hence forcing the hands of virtual world hosts, application providers, and IT vendors to offer a variety of standards-based solutions in order to meet end user requirements. In view of this, IBM and Linden Lab have come together to work out a viable solution when it comes to exploring the interoperability of virtual world platforms and technologies. This team aims to work with industry-wide efforts in order to further expand the capabilities of virtual worlds.

Fujitsu has new e-paper format
Fujitsu has taken the opportunity to parade its most recent electronic paper products at CEATEC Japan 2007. While they released a flexible color e-paper much earlier, Fujitsu has since taken a much bigger step by changing the form factor of their color e-paper to that of an e-reader – a prototype content browser that measures roughly the size of an A5 sheet of paper. This new Fujitsu prototype is extremely light so that your hands won’t suffer from cramps while reading a really thick novel, and boasts a high-contrast, easy to read 4,096 color display with a stunning battery life (up to 50 hours) courtesy of its ability to hold an image once it is displayed without drawing on any power.

Internet2 is faster…naturally
A speedy Internet connection is what everyone wants these days – after all, you get to download the latest movies and music (try not to get caught in the process if you’re doing it illegally) in the blink of an eye, and at the very least you don’t have to worry about having your online banking transaction experience a time out, leaving you with beads of sweat wondering whether that $10,000 wire has gone through or not. Roll up your sleeves and be prepared for a new dedicated 10Gbps optical link, as long as your office is a member of Internet2. This research network has already completed a major upgrade to its national infrastructure, operating at speeds of up to 100Gbps at this moment while allowing researchers to provision their own dedicated links for limited periods of time.

Samsung SPH-P9200 UMPC details

Samsung already has some cool UMPCs (that is Ultra Mobile Personal Computers for the non-geeky personas), like the Q1 that was launched in 2006, and its big-brother Q2, but the latest news are about the SPH-P9200 – a beauty in terms of design and features – that was presented earlier this year at the 4G Forum 2007 that took place in Korea.
Like you can see on the image, the keyboard on this UMPC can be unfolded for all the occasions when you actually want to use a QWERTY styled keyboard. And when you want to make it smaller + compact, just fold the keyboard and you’re good to go – your choice.
In terms of technical specifications, the Samsung SPH-P9200 which is also known as Deluxe MIT, comes with a small 5-inch touchscreen display that provides a “normal” 800×480 resolution. Not too shabby, but not brilliant either, I guess it is good enough for its size. The processor is powered by a VIA C7-M that runs at 1GHz, and the RAM memory includes 512MB, while on the hard-drive there is space for 30GB.

Vocal Joystick controls computer
A group of researchers at the University of Washington have successfully developed a simple, intuitive piece of software for controlling computer applications using nothing but one’s voice. This means a person will be able to use his/her vocal chords to control the mouse, interacting with browsers as well as other programs without the need to go through prior training of any sort. More details are available after the jump.

Seagate Momentus 5400 Power Savings Drive

Seagate has jumped onto the hybrid revolution with the new Seagate Momentus 5400 Power Savings Drive that boasts a whopping 160GB of traditional hard drive storage as well as 256MB of flash memory. Granted, 256MB is extremely paltry by today’s standards, but it is a start and a sign of better things to come. This product places Seagate alongside Samsung Electronics where hybrid hard drives are concerned. The advantages of including flash memory are many, chiefly among them a lower power consumption (which results in superior battery life) and faster boot-up time for computers.

Gresso ups the style for USB flash drives
Gresso is a name famous for manufacturing luxury cellphones as well as MP3 players, and this time they have taken their expertise by sprucing up the plain old USB flash drive. Gresso took a biblical stance with their new creation, naming it Adam&Eve – and no, it does not come wrapped in a fig leaf but is crafted from high end materials such as African mahogany, blackwood, gold and white diamonds. Unfortunately, the memory capacity maxes out at 1GB, which IMHO, isn’t really appropriate in today’s day and age.
