Maxtor OneTouch 4

by Mark R

Maxtor

If you regularly use a computer, then you always have that terrible fear that the next time you log off will be the last time. I’m not talking about your own death, but something that seems far worse. It’s that black screen that tells us that our computer, as we knew it, is no more.

Fortunately, this is why there are external back-ups, and more and more people really need to use them. Especially when we live in an age when all our pictures, videos, music, and other important files are centrally located on the computer.

Toshiba Portégé R500 gets outfitted with 3G

by Chris

Toshiba Portégé R500

Last week brought us the MacBook Air, which is no doubt impressive as far as looks and size go. However, even if you upgrade to the SSD kit with a faster processor, it still leaves much to be desired. My biggest complaints include the lack of an optical drive and the limited ports to be found. If I’m going to spend that kind of money on a notebook it needs to at least have an optical drive and an ethernet port. After the latest announcement from Toshiba, I can say with some certainty that I would pick their Portégé R500 over the Air any day of the week.

USB drive holds your presentation and the software needed to run it

by Chris

NewSoft

How many times have you taken your laptop somewhere to give a presentation only to find out that they won’t let you hook it up to the projector, but rather you must use their computer to run it? I don’t give a lot of presentations, so I’m not really sure how often that happens to someone. For most people it wouldn’t be a huge deal, but if their computer doesn’t have the exact presentation software on it you need, you’ll run into some major issues. If you’re ever worried about such an instance, this flash drive from NewSoft will put you at ease.

Gigabyte announces Eee PC competitor

Gigabyte

Last week we told you that Acer would be joining the ranks of companies like Asus who wish to dominate the realm of super-small laptops. They hope to launch their 8 or 9-inch ultra portable by the end of the quarter, or the beginning of next at the latest. In response to Acer’s announcement, Gigabyte has released a statement saying that they too wish to compete in this market.

Geeked out Eee PC

by Edwin

asus-eee-all-the-hacks.jpgAsus’ Eee PC has certainly more than picked up its fair share of love from customers who have fallen head over heels with its form factor and ease-fo-use. One thing we do know is, the Eee PC isn’t exactly at the forefront when it comes to hardware specifications, but that isn’t going to stop industrious folks from trying their level best. This Eee PC comes with GPS, Bluetooth connectivity, 802.11n, an FM transmitter, a modem, a USB hub, 2GB RAM, and even an SDHC memory card reader. The total cost of these upgrades? $454.38.

WaterField Designs MacBook Air SleeveCase

by Edwin

waterfield-sleeve.jpgI knew I should’ve had the foresight of starting an iAnything accessory factory – I’d be swimming in millions right now. WaterField Designs beat me to it with their MacBook Air SleeveCase that will fit the extremely thin notebook with ease. Ballistic nylon is used to offer exterior protection, while its insides are lined with neoprene for additional cushioning. You can choose from vertical and horizontal orientations with the option to throw in extras such as a front flap, a shoulder strap and “Piggyback” – a detachable holder for accessories. The standalone SleeveCase will retail for $39.

Decrease productivity with the Gamercize PC

Gamercize PC

What’s the easiest way to suck all of the fun out of your favorite activity? Just throw in a little exercise and you’ll be sure to hate it within just a few minutes. Now I’m not talking about things like the Wii which get you up and make you move a bit while playing your game, that’s actually kind of fun. I’m talking about the Gamercize, which makes you keep stepping or pedaling in order for you to keep playing your PS2. We covered the Gamercize for your PS2 when they came out back in September, but the creators have developed a new version that’s sure to make you hate your job more than you already do. That’s right, Gamercize PC.

Protect your portable data with RFID

by Chris

RFID Drive

If you have a portable drive that you carry around, there’s a good chance you’ve worried about your data being stolen, especially if you have sensitive information stored on it. There are a few ways you can keep it secure. While there’s no foolproof way to make sure that a thief won’t be able to pick it up and run off, you can make sure that they won’t get to your precious files. There are many methods from simple passwords to biometric locks, however, this is the first RFID-protective drive I’ve seen thus far.
