52 in 1 Card Reader

August 28th, 2006 by Al in USB Gadgets

52 in 1Not only has Brando sent us a ton of gadget prizes they have also just released the interesting 52 in 1 USB Bluetooth Card Reader. I didn’t even realise there were 52 different card formats.

The Card Reader functions as a Bluetooth Dongle (so you won’t even need to plug in your cards half the time) and has a relaxing anamorphic pulsing light so that you can see when it’s in use.

This is probably one of those gadgets that you’ll only use 1o% of it’s possible functionality, full list of compatible memory cards after the jump Read the rest of this entry »

Assign Drive Letter i to Your iPod

August 23rd, 2006 by methodshop in Software, iPod gadgets

Microsoft Windows assigns drive letters to disk volumes to help tell them apart. For example, the default letter assigned to your computer’s hard drive is probably ‘c.’ Each time you dock the iPod to a PC, Windows will assign the iPod the next available drive letter, such as ‘f’ or ‘g.’ But isn’t the letter ‘i’ the most appropriate drive letter assignment for the iPod?

Here’s a simple tutorial on how to assign the drive letter ‘i’ to an iPod connected to a PC using Microsoft Windows XP or Windows 2000.

August 21st, 2006 by Al in USB Gadgets, Wacky Gadgets

ePuppy

It’s another of those wacky gadgets, the E-Puppy Personal USB E-Mail Communicator.

Simply connect to your PC via USB and let the cute little pooch read your emails to you. It also has a built-in microphone so you can talk back to it. So if you’ve ever wanted a talking fog with a light for a belly button here it is the E-Puppy (least it’s not another i thing).

Available from AXT Unlimited found via the CG Forums thanks WebQueen.

3-In-1 Gadget Pen

August 20th, 2006 by Liam in Miscellaneous Gadgets, USB Gadgets

3-In-1 Gadget Pen
These days it seems like every gadget isn’t just what it appears to be. The manufacturers are always thinking up new and unique features for gadgets which are constantly making life easier while compacting as much as they can into one device. This really interesting 3-In-1 pen is a very handy gadget which would be perfect for use around an office or in a meeting.

On the outside it appears to be a very normal pen that one might carry around for taking notes. It also works just like a normal pen and aside from a small but mysterious silver button on the side there is no way for anyone else to know what you’re holding!

Backups made easy with Western Digital’s My Book

August 19th, 2006 by Mike in PC Gadgets, Software

People tend not to back up their data, and only realize it would’ve been a good idea to do so when it’s too late. There’s probably a variety of reasons, to expensive, cumbersome, or they just don’t know how to go about it.Western Digital's My Book

The Western Digital My Book tries to make automated backup simple for you. Bundled with the Premium and Pro versions is quality backup software that allows you to recover from crashes, and setup automated backups so you don’t have to worry about it. In the essential version (cheapest), no backup software is included, only Google Desktop.

The My Book is great for backing up data, but it’s easy to use as a second drive for files as well. Just plug your My Book into the computer and the necessary software will be installed from the drive itself, no CDs to lose. After that you’ve got a second drive for all your videos, music, pictures, and whatever else you’d like to store.

Tame your desk with the Keyboard Organizer

August 19th, 2006 by Mike in PC Gadgets

Keyboard Organizer

Some people just don’t know how to be organized. Their desk is cluttered with random objects; forgotten CDs, random Post-It notes, paper clips, pens, pencils, and other random objects. The Keyboard Organizer aims to fix this.

It’s a pretty simple idea. The Keyboard Organizer is a regular looking keyboard, but it also flips up allowing you to store, neatly at that, all sorts of little things. There are separated compartments, too, nobody likes it when the pens get mixed with the pencils!

Take your passwords with you using Power LogOn

August 16th, 2006 by Mike in PC Gadgets

Power LogOnWhen the average Joe uses the internet, security is never their main concern, convenience is. That means using the same password for their banking, E-mail, eBay account, etc. Of course, the password is stuck to the monitor on a Post-It, too.

The only solution for this, err, problem, is to make it easy for people to manage multiple passwords without having to remember them all. The Power LogOn makes it simple.

The Power LogOn stores all your passwords on an encrypted card which you carry around. To access your passwords, you put your card into the receiver and enter your PIN. There is a desktop model, which connects via USB, and a notebook model that uses a PCMIA card slot. The cards will work across both models, so you can use the same card on your desktop and notebook.

PlusDeck 2c

August 15th, 2006 by Mike in PC Gadgets

You’ve got piles and piles of old cassette tapes gathering dust in your basement. It’s a shame to ignore them, but tape playPlusDeck 2Cers are hard to come by these days, and you’d want it on your iPod anyway. Instead of buying all this music again on CD or somewhere like the iTunes Music Store, you can use the PlusDeck 2c.

The PlusDeck 2c slips into a standard 5.25” drive on your PC. You can simply insert a tape and the included software will convert that old piece of junk into either a MP3 or WAV file. There’s also an option to split the file up, but that’s easier to do in a sound editor like Audacity.

You don’t have to stand there and watch over the tape, the PlusDeck 2c takes care of everything, just let it sit. If your tape is 20 minutes long, you can come back in 20 minutes and it’ll be done.
