Remember the good old days when a sound card was considered to be a luxury purchase? While your friends with Sound Blasters or Sound Blaster Pros managed to eke out just about double the fun piloting an X-Wing with all the explosions and screams of TIE fighters ringing around in a dogfight, you had to endure the cold, stony silence of keyboard taps and joystick button clicks. Come to think of it, that’s how it was supposed to be anyway. Space is a vacuum, and we all know that sound doesn’t travel through vacuum. I digress - sound cards have since come a long way and today, most motherboards come with integrated sound cards, but if you want to go one up on the generic integrated soundchip, why not plug in this USB-powered Virtual 7.1 Channel Sound Adapter?
7.1 Channel Sound Adapter in USB format
December 7th, 2006 by Edwin in Audio/Video Gadgets, PC Gadgets, USB GadgetsIt’s soft, it’s comfortable, it IS it’s own pocket,, it’s a Keyboard?! The Carrypad Elekson Keyboard.
December 6th, 2006 by Fred in Electronic Gadgets, Miscellaneous Gadgets, PC GadgetsIt doesn’t fall down stairs, alone OR in pairs. However, it sure is a slinky little number!
The Carrypad from Elekson seems like a real winner in the “also serves as a keyboard for any device that can receive bluetooth category.”
The advantage here being, if the device you’re syncing with is very small, (Palm, Smartphone, UMPD, or a Bluetooth based Viking named Sven that can decipher bluetooth in his head), then this is the item for you! With the exception of Sven (he scares me) you can place them inside the pouch that is part of the Carrypad and protect your tiny machine while bringing along a full size keyboard.
Yes, not everyone has a tiny device that can utilize this power, but what about those little phones with bluetooth people?! You know you sit there with your bluetooth enabled Treo and wonder aloud, “If I only had tiny tiny hands with which to type upon my lovely device, I’d never need another computer.”
Rather than wallow away tears on that tack, why not go for the Carrypad, and relieve your burden in the opposite direction. A FULL size keyboard is just what you need, you’ve already got the computing power you need, all that is missing is a decent ergonomic answer, and here it is right in front of you!

Intel and the Classmate PC
December 6th, 2006 by Dan in PC Gadgets
Intel announced recently that it will also be producing the Classmate PC in Brazil, and the local partners will be CEE and Positivo. The Classmate PC represents Intel’s initiative to combat the digital divide worldwide, and it is competing directly with the $100 laptop being developed by Nicholas Negroponte with the project “One Laptop per Child”. According to Intel the “Classmate PC is to bring the full value of PC technology to bear in helping students and educators in primary and secondary schools by assisting in the learning process.”
Intel also released a PDF file with some information regarding the Classmate PC. LaCie’s Hub
December 4th, 2006 by Mike in PC Gadgets, USB Gadgets
Personally, I don’t mind the clump of cables that sit under and around my desk. My tangled USB cords for my iPod, mouse, PSP, printer, and probably something else just sit around, completely tangled, and it doesn’t bother me a bit. For some reason, people can be irked by this messiness and want more stylish means of hooking all their gadgets up. Designed by someone named Ora-lto, the LaCie Hub will give you one nice looking USB & Firewire hub.

Eco-friendly laptop
December 4th, 2006 by Dan in PC Gadgets
LG Electronics recently unveiled a concept for a future laptop called “ebook”. The laptop, instead of the current LCD (liquid crystal display) panels, uses OLED (organic light-emitting diode) panels which are more efficient in terms of energy consumption and manufacturing processes.
The laptop will be powered also through clean fuels such as methyl alcohol or natural gas, and it features a special cylindrical hinge to storage such fuels. All the combined characteristics make this laptop much more environment-friendly than standard products. The confirmation comes from the fact that LG was included among 12 “best of the best” design concepts from the Red Dot Award. Read the rest of this entry »

Optimus Mini 3
December 1st, 2006 by Tiago in PC Gadgets, USB Gadgets
For the fans of the Optimus Keyboard it is not shocking to see a keyboard that has editable images on the keys that change with the software being used, but to people unfamiliar with the device it can be a good shocking experience. To get that effect to last longer I present you the Optimus mini 3, it is like a twin brother of the keyboard but like the name suggests, it’s only a mini with three keys.
There are plenty of features you can create with the 3 keys, besides being able to assign an image (animated or not) to each key, you can still do the following:
- start a program, instead of going to “Start -> All Programs” you can just press the key and get the software running
- Set it as a keyboard combination – the people that copy/paste a lot would love to use this as it saves time and work, instead of always having to type “Control + c” and “Control + v”, they would just need to press 1 key at a time. Besides the copy and paste example there must be other good examples, like the shortcut keys at Photoshop or something similar
Robot with many hats
November 30th, 2006 by Edwin in Robot Gadgets, Software, Toys
Most robotic kits that we see in the market these days are pretty simple as they come pre-fitted from the factory, ready to be played with out of the box. All you need to do is insert some batteries, and perhaps run a program off a CD for the more complex offerings and you’re good to go. Not the Bioloid Multi-Bot Robot Kit though - this bad boy ships in it’s most basic format and arrives naked in this world just like us, but it does have a cool array of limbs that can be fitted in any way you like ala Lego bricks in order to create more than just a bi-pedal humanoid Transformer-like robot.
