The ‘world’s smallest’ External HDD

February 14th, 2006 by Al in PC Gadgets

Worlds Smallest Hard Disk
Japanese firm Elecom have just announced their release of the world’s smallest hard disk drive and it is tiny measuring 6.8 x 3 x 1.3cm.

Details about it are pretty sketchy at the moment, but the 4GB version (MF-DU204G) will set you back about $227. Considering you can get similar capacity flash drives a lot cheaper, I’ll be interested to see what performance is like with this ultra portable HDD.

February 11th, 2006 by Keith in Miscellaneous Gadgets, PC Gadgets

Titan G3T Notebook Cooler

The Titan G3T is one of the latest product from Titan, a well-established company in making top quality computer accessories from Taiwan. Looking attractive from the exterior design box, the Titan G3T notebook cooler is what the name intended to do, cool down notebook.

Impressively, the piece of aluminium does not weigh a lot, which in fact made the overall matt finish feature looks cool. Looking neat and tidy in real life, the overall size is only324 x 264 x 27mm in dimension. Two fans are installed inside the cooler pad, which can be easily turned around if you want the air to flow in a different direction.

Password Manager

February 11th, 2006 by Al in PC Gadgets, Spy Stuff

Mandylion Password Manager
Passwords are a burden but a necessary evil, I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve had to reset a password for a site I’ve not visited for a while. If you’ve got the memory of a fish the Mandylion Password Manager may be the answer (albeit an expensive one).

The technology behind the Mandylion comes from the US military so you’d hope it is secure. It boosts to of being tested for 3 years in real warfare environments, so we’d also expect it to be pretty rugged.

Browsing the Web in 3D

February 9th, 2006 by Al in Software

3D Web BrowserThis looks kind of cool, being able to browse the web in 3D with the uBrowser. You can even make sites animate like a flag in the wind.

Other than being cool to look at, the technology could also be used in games or virtual worlds. Imagine walking past a web browser in Quake and being able to use it in the 3D environment. It will be interesting to see if appears in any commercial products in the future but for now you can download the browser (free) to play with.

Songbird - Open-Source “iTunes “

February 9th, 2006 by Keith in Miscellaneous Gadgets, Software

Songbird

If users find downloading Apple’s iTunes too much of a hassle, now what we have here is an Open-Source “iTunes”-look alike. Songbird is basically a Web player built from Firefox’s browser engine. As it is an open source, Songbird will run on Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. Furthermore, it supports user contributed, cross-platform extensions as well. But rather than hooking into one online music source (Apple’s iTunes Music Store), Songbird aims to talk to lot more others.

Previewing the Songbird is a little shaky at first, starting with the download from the website, taking a considerable amount of “effort”, seemly that the download traffic must have been quite congested. Somehow I felt that the program was a little buggy, as if there are some documentation which I could not run.

Nonetheless, as this is a still a Beta (Preview) product, yet to be finished, it’ll be interesting to see how it develops further down the road. Meanwhile users can download it from the website at Songbirdnest.com, or at its mirror site.

Vizrea Snap - First complete photo solution for camera phone users

February 7th, 2006 by Keith in Miscellaneous Gadgets, Software

Vizrea Snap

If you have heard of Flickr before, then then Vizrea will be almost very familar to you. Besides offering photo-sharing, organising, printing and blogging to you, Vizrea also completes the full package by providing the best service, catering especially for camera phone users.

Though it may be rumour, but I heard that some former Microsoft execs. started this photo sharing site, at the same time challenging the class of Flickr which currently offers similar service to users. Though the company may sound new, it is already getting a lot of publicity from several great press and blog sites.

Desktop Sidebar 1.05 Build 109 Beta

February 6th, 2006 by Keith in Miscellaneous Gadgets, Software

Desktop Sidebar

Before Windows Vista is released, Microsoft announced several new features that will come in the next generation of Windows Operating System (OS), and a Sidebar is one of them. However, before Windows Vista is released, there are already several other softwares “copying” the idea of Sidebar. Google Desktop captured the idea and came up with its very own Search engine, embedded within the sidebar. Besides Google, Desktop Sidebar was one of the first few to release its own sidebar, and also WATSON 2.0 which I had written something about it last September.

Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2

February 4th, 2006 by Keith in Miscellaneous Gadgets, Software

Microsoft IE 7 Beta 2

After trying out Microsoft’s Internet Explorer (IE) Beta 1 for the past couple of months. At that time, the software was never a release to the public and at times, often sought for by computer geeks and enthusiasts. About three days ago, Microsoft decides to release the Beta 2 version of their very own Internet Explorer to the public for preview release. This move has tactically capture the hugh bulk of Window users and hardly anyone who surfs the internet would be ignorant of the “international-wide” release.
