Handyman Gift Guide

November 8th, 2007 by Tiago in Cooking Gadgets, Electronic Gadgets, GPS gadgets, Gadget Gift Ideas, Office Gadgets, USB Gadgets

The definition of handyman can be seen as “a man skilled in various odd jobs and other small tasks” – something rare to exist nowadays. Right ladies?

Anyhow, the following 10 gadgets are suited for the almost-in-extinction handyman, from cookers to campers, and GPS lovers, we’ve got it all here.

The products are ordered by price, not by usefulness or multi-functionality.

Black & Decker Alligator Lopper Electric Chain Saw

Black & Decker Alligator Lopper Electric Chain Saw

If this Black & Decker existed 50 years ago, I bet it would be a hit for sure.

The Black & Decker Aligator Electronic Chain Saw has a 4.5 Amp motor, and a 4-inch cut limit. You can use it to cut small (or big) pieces of wood to use on your fireplace, unlike what happens while using a manual chain saw, you won’t get tired.

Take a big bite out of fallen trees, tree limbs and brush with the Alligator Lopper, a revolutionary new cutting tool that provides chainsaw-like cutting performance in an un-intimidating and easy to use tool. With its scissor-like action, the Alligator Lopper’s rugged metal jaws clamp onto logs and thick branches, as well as smaller tree limbs and vines and then saws through them with ease.

Price: $99

Label Printer Mouse – A good idea gone wrong

November 6th, 2007 by Chris in Electronic Gadgets, Miscellaneous Gadgets, Office Gadgets, PC Gadgets

Label Printer Mouse

A quick glance around my office will tell you that I have a lot of gadgets. I’m really not sure how it happened, as it seems like not that long ago I had so few. I suppose that over time I’ve discovered that I rely on technology more than I’d care to admit. It’s only natural that I go out of my way to find convergence products that allow me to consolidate my ever-growing collection of gadgets. While there are a lot of good products that fit into that category, there are an abundance of poorly-designed ones. With that said, I give you the Label Printer Mouse.

USB Fibre Optic Christmas Tree

November 4th, 2007 by Edwin in Electronic Gadgets, Gadget Gift Ideas, Office Gadgets, USB Gadgets

usb-fiber-christmas.jpgGet into the Christmas spirit with this USB Fibre Optic Christmas Tree. Best of all is, there aren’t pesky wires to wrestle with once the holiday season is over as you can simply unplug it and tuck it away in your desk drawer till Christmas rolls round once again.

Simply plug it into an available USB port on your computer or laptop and experience a warm glow as the tips of the branches glisten with a bright blue shimmer. The sparkling little lights have a soothing, almost hypnotic effect and will make anyone who passes by get into the festive spirit. If you argue with your colleagues about who gets to decorate the tree, then find less enthusiasm when the time comes to take it down in January, this little tree is the perfect compromise. Every desk can have their own USB Christmas Tree to complement the rest of the office decorations.

Perfect as an office gift to that hot secretary you’ve been eyeing all along. £9.95 from Gizoo.

Tiny Vacuum powered by USB

November 3rd, 2007 by Carolyn in Office Gadgets, PC Gadgets

k7046b.jpg
The retro craze seems to be going in full swing now that the holidays are upon us. Retro telephones, retro fans, retro everything! But it takes a visionary to say “you know, I want to make a tiny, retro vacuum for people to use on their desks”.

And you know what? That man or woman did just that.

Film Speaker Picture Frame

November 1st, 2007 by Mark R in Audio/Video Gadgets, Electronic Gadgets, Office Gadgets, PC Gadgets

projector-speaker.jpg

I remember watching the first Spy Kids film, where the kids’ secret spy parents push a button and the pictures on their desks retract and become tiny stereo speakers. Clearly, life is imitating art with this particular design from Miraeplasma. I have to admit that I never heard of Miraaplasma, but they use plasma to create these thin portable film speakers. Not only will you have quality sound for your PC, but you can put a picture of your loved ones within them. So even though the kids’ pictures in Spy Kids had to retract to get stereo sound, your pictures can stay right where they are.

Skeleton See Saw

October 30th, 2007 by Edwin in Home Gadgets, Office Gadgets

skeleton-seesaw.jpgWhat better way to get into the Halloween mood than with a desktop toy to usher in a daily reminder that life is but a moment, and we will soon end up as a bag of bones eventually. The Skeleton Seesaw is a great time waster, although I suspect your attention won’t be held for too long before you relegate this to a corner, letting it gather dust. The Skeleton Seesaw retails for $34.95 a pop, which is rather pricey for something that has no electronics inside.

Movin’ and Groovin’ Flowers

October 29th, 2007 by Edwin in Audio/Video Gadgets, Electronic Gadgets, Gadget Gift Ideas, Office Gadgets

lrg-sec-movingroovinflower.jpgLooks like the Movin’ and Groovin’ Snakes have some company, and it comes in a less mobile form of flowers in a pot. Here’s the skinny on these Movin’ and Groovin’ Flowers.

No water is required for these groovy chaps, all you have to do is plug in the 3.5 mm jack connector to your multimedia device, crank up the volume and enjoy the show as they move and groove to the beat of your music. Movin’ and Groovin’ Flowers also boast pretty decent speakers too and they will pump out your favorite tunes with clear, rich sound and surprising muscle for their dainty guise. There is even a three-way switch which lets you select music and dance, or just music, depending on your mood.

Choose from Lilac (going fast!), Pink, and Yellow variations, and they retail for £14.95 each.

USB Golfer heads for your desks

October 29th, 2007 by Edwin in Office Gadgets, PC Gadgets, USB Gadgets

usb-golder.jpgThe USB Golfer enjoys a much more privileged life than you do – he gets to play as many rounds of golf as he likes without worrying about the weather outside since he’ll be indoors all the time. This £29.99 desktop toy works great for those slow afternoons, as you’ll be able to control where he hits via a software on your computer. He receives instructions and power via USB – just make sure you don’t aim and hit one ball towards your superior’s bald head accidentally.
