  • Resolution: 380 Lines
  • Min. Illumination: 1 Lux

Whip up a cuppa over the Internet

September 13th, 2007 by Edwin in DIY Gadgets, Drinking Gadgets, Electronic Gadgets, Office Gadgets

coffee-machine.jpgCoffee lovers, rejoice! There is now a way for you to conjure a cup of hot joe just the way you like it via an Internet connection, courtesy of some caffeine lovers with a penchant for DIY. This unique coffee making machine is powered by the O2M8 WebBrick controller that is used for automation in houses. Guess there is nothing quite like a little bit of imagination to perk you up during those slow Monday afternoons. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to catch up on any water cooler gossip with this one since you’ll still be sitting all alone by your computer while keying in an order.

Amazon to ‘Kindle’ love for reading

September 10th, 2007 by Edwin in Electronic Gadgets, Office Gadgets, PC Gadgets

amazon-ebook-reader.jpgMany kids these days tend to shun books as they definitely aren’t interactive in any sort of way. And what’s this thing about using my imagination? No sir, I’d rather have movie directors as well as video games direct my every single train of thought. Not only that, there are always audio and video files on my iPod to keep me passively entertained. Does the digital age signal the end for traditional, leather bound books? The answer depends on how you look at things, but I would like to say an emphatic “No”. How do you get the younger generation to appreciate books? The answer apparently lies in churning up a light, slim, affordable, and a pivotally content heavy eBook reader that encroaches upon their generation to cultivate a love for reading. What better way to do so than enlist the help of Amazon?

    Homer Simpson 4-port USB Hub

September 2nd, 2007 by Edwin in Office Gadgets, USB Gadgets, Wacky Gadgets

simpsons-multi-usb-port.jpgFancy giving your workspace a little Simpsons touch after having fits of laughter over the entire Spiderpig episode in the cartoon? This Homer Simpson 4-port USB Hub brings some humor to the office, spinning 360 degrees around each time you plug a device in while screaming “Woo hoo!” The catch? All four USB ports are USB 1.1 compliant, which would have been extremely relevant like, at the turn of this century. Unfortunately, unless you’re a really big fan of the Simpsons franchise, I really won’t recommend this product. For $49.95, you would be really overpaying a sorry excuse for a USB hub, and with just USB 1.1 connectivity, that price point is nothing but daylight robbery.

    Space Putty for restless hands

September 2nd, 2007 by Edwin in Gadget Gift Ideas, Office Gadgets, Wacky Gadgets

space-putty.jpgIf you’re one to fiddle with the telephone line or doodle during a conversation, the Space Putty would definitely offer more fun.

It’s squidgy, bouncy, runny and yet hard, this Space putty is an un-put-downable liquid lava goo. What once used to be silly, and occasional potty, has now become spacey. These iridescent pots of putty could not be more addictive to play with. It’s a ‘love at first squeeze’ thaing, no meeting or moment of idle thought is complete without a lump of this malleable magic stuff in your hands. You can mould it, bounce it, shatter it, stretch it, or in the case of the Iridescent Green one, even watch it change colour as you play with it. What you can’t do with it however, is put it down. You have been warned, Space Putty is highly addictive.

Choose from Oil Slick, Metallic Silver, and Color Changing Green for £4.95 a pop.

    Palm, the Foleo imbroglio continues

August 24th, 2007 by Fred in Audio/Video Gadgets, Electronic Gadgets, GPS gadgets, Gaming Gadgets, Mobile Phones, Office Gadgets, Tech News, iPod gadgets

the Foleo Imbroglio First off, thanks to Peter Rojas who penned a great missive about the new Palm Foleo project to the folks at Palm. They’ve developed this new Foleo direction, and well, it doesn’t seem to be the right one. Peter (his article is here over at Engadget by the way).

Well, here’s the neat part, they are listening!

This is obviously important in a number of ways. First of course, they don’t want to alienate the people that use their products, but secondly, they’re obviously aware at this point, that the chilly reception for the Foleo, may indicate that their direction may not be the right one to go.

I wrote a bit about the Foleo system’s release a while back. It does seem to provide a bit of additional utility to the Treo line, however, the main accomplishment is simply a bigger screen, more memory, and a full sized keyboard.

Peter notes that obviously the iPhone is the new target for the Palm group. This is so true it hurts, and a true bit of evoloution from that level seems to be the only thing that will put it head and shoulders above the iPhone (or simply put, the same features coupled with a better price point).

I only have one additional note to add to his work, which is; PLEASE PLEASE add a 5 Megapixel or better camera too! I’ve been looking and looking, but very few bother to do this. It seems that the Nokia N95 seems to be the only phone that can be wedged into the US market that has this capacity. Let’s face it, if it can take REAL pictures, the utility of this thing goes through the roof. Read the rest of this entry »

USB RC Car now comes with garage

August 22nd, 2007 by Edwin in Electronic Gadgets, Office Gadgets, Remote Control Toys

rc-car-garage.jpgSolid Alliance, long the purveyor of quirky USB gadgets, has now unveiled a garage that hooks up to your USB port. Inside the garage contains a car that can be controlled, albeit not with your everyday remote control. Instead, it uses a special desktop program where your arrow keys are the primary mode of navigation. Whenever the car runs out of juice, it can be placed back in the garage for charging (it takes 10 minutes to achieve a full charge). There is a 1 meter radius in terms of range, and this nifty gadget definitely helps kill off the afternoon boredom at the office. The USB RC Car with garage will retail for $30 when it is released this September in Japan.
