500XL Speakers are giant iPod earbuds

January 24th, 2008 by Chris in Audio/Video Gadgets, Office Gadgets, PC Gadgets, iPod gadgets

500XL

When you’re on the bus or subway, or anywhere that people tend to be sitting for long periods you tend to notice that many of them are listening to MP3 players. What’s more is that you can almost always pick out the ones rocking out to an iPod by their iconic white earbuds. Most people I know that carry an iPod still use the same earbuds that came with the player because they like the way they look and sound. Well if you’re one that likes the look, here’s a giant pair you can sit on your desktop.

USB drive holds your presentation and the software needed to run it

January 21st, 2008 by Chris in Electronic Gadgets, Office Gadgets, PC Gadgets, USB Gadgets

NewSoft

How many times have you taken your laptop somewhere to give a presentation only to find out that they won’t let you hook it up to the projector, but rather you must use their computer to run it? I don’t give a lot of presentations, so I’m not really sure how often that happens to someone. For most people it wouldn’t be a huge deal, but if their computer doesn’t have the exact presentation software on it you need, you’ll run into some major issues. If you’re ever worried about such an instance, this flash drive from NewSoft will put you at ease.

Turnout Gear from Viking

January 20th, 2008 by Edwin in Electronic Gadgets, Office Gadgets

viking_turnout_gear_tst.jpgThe Turnout Gear from Viking you see here is the marriage of Thermal Sensor Technology (TST) and Smart Textiles, whereby firefighters will definitely find this smart uniform a boon to their everyday work. This suit is smart enough to visually communicate any critical hot spots on the suit itself so that the fireman will have greater situational awareness and not put himself in danger of burns. The LED display on the upper left shoulder glows to notify others whenever one might be in danger, while the sleeve’s LED lets you know if your mate is in a hot spot. The higher the mercury goes, the faster the LED will blink.

Decrease productivity with the Gamercize PC

January 20th, 2008 by Chris in Electronic Gadgets, Office Gadgets, PC Gadgets, USB Gadgets

Gamercize PC

What’s the easiest way to suck all of the fun out of your favorite activity? Just throw in a little exercise and you’ll be sure to hate it within just a few minutes. Now I’m not talking about things like the Wii which get you up and make you move a bit while playing your game, that’s actually kind of fun. I’m talking about the Gamercize, which makes you keep stepping or pedaling in order for you to keep playing your PS2. We covered the Gamercize for your PS2 when they came out back in September, but the creators have developed a new version that’s sure to make you hate your job more than you already do. That’s right, Gamercize PC.

Wacom Bamboo Pen Tablet

January 18th, 2008 by Mark R in Electronic Gadgets, Office Gadgets, PC Gadgets

Wacom Bamboo

This might be one of the only times that I wished I had Windows Vista. Then I could have written this post by hand.

I’m sure a lot of you are saying: “But we can’t read your handwriting”. And you should, because my handwriting is sloppy. However, with Windows Vista and the Wacom Bamboo Pen Tablet, all my printed words can be easily transferred into typed text.

If you haven’t heard of the Wacom Bamboo, it is a very sleek device that includes a pen tablet and digital pen for lots of drawing potential. Not only can a user write-to-text, but he or she can make sketches, or add his or her personal signature to digital documents. The feeling of the Bamboo is just like pen-on-paper, and I found that it was not at all awkward to work with.

Iwavecube Personal Microwave for Tiny, Tiny Food

January 10th, 2008 by Carolyn in Cooking Gadgets, Kitchen Gadgets, Office Gadgets

102591262d.jpgYou know you’ve done it - you’ve been sitting at your desk and your coffee is cold. Or you think “wow…I would love to heat up my lunch but I know there’s a line for the microwave in the kitchen”. You wish you had your own microwave. What if you had your own a personal, portable microwave? Forget all those trips to the kitchen or treks to the cafeteria — now you can reheat coffee right at your desk or nuke some soup for your brown-bag lunch.

The innovative Iwavecube personal microwave has all the electronic controls and safety features you expect, but it takes up less than a cubic foot of space. Plug it in anyplace that’s handy — work or home office; home gym; family room; nursery; wet bar; dorm room; work bench; pool house.everywhere! The quiet, super-energy-efficient iwavecube measures just 10″ x 10.5″ x 12″ and weighs only 12 lbs. Features a built-in carry handle and view-through door. Plugs into standard outlet.

My only problem is that there’s no way in hell this microwave will heat up a Lean Cuisine meal or anything larger than a Hot Pocket. I’m not sure I want to spend $129.95 on a coffee warmer. But if having a tiny, tiny microwave is something you’ve always dreamed of, then you can pick one up over at the Sky Mall.

Ultra-Thin Digital Voice Recorder

January 7th, 2008 by Carolyn in Audio/Video Gadgets, Electronic Gadgets, Office Gadgets

digital_voice_recorder.jpgWith everyone talking about this year’s CES, I thought it would be nice to highlight a gadget that would make a visit to CES (or any convention, for that matter) a bit easier to absorb. You know how it is, you get there and are overwhelmed by all the stuff there. By the time you’re done, you’ve forgotten half of what you’ve seen or you need to make notes for a story, but can’t lug around a notebook very easily and also carry all the schwag that invariably gets handed out at these conventions.

Enter the Ultra-Thin Digital Video Voice Recorder over at ThinkGeek.

This credit card size digital voice recorder measures in at just 6.5 millimeters in thickness and features 1GB of built-in storage, a flip-out USB connector, and flush-mounted controls. It can also be used as a MP3 player and USB flash drive. It records in high quality WAV file format and files can be easily copied or deleted just as with a standard USB storage device. Convenient and highly portable design mean you can take it with you just about anywhere with minimum hassle.
