clipSYNC – keeps your friends close, and enemies closer

by Edwin

OK, so the title might be a little bit dramatic, but the clipSYNC is a unique piece from the peripherals category, considering how it is actually best described as a compact charge and sync cable that comes complete with a built-in, spring-loaded carbineer clip. Why friends closer and enemies closer? Well, it lets you hang out your compatible smartphone near you, hence that expression.

Available in both iPod/iPhone and Micro and Mini USB models, the latter will sport a unique patent pending hammerhead design. This is the third generation of the compact charge and sync cable line, where its unparalleled versatility makes it the best model to date – and I am quite sure it will be surpassed by the next generation version.

Using rugged aluminum and durable polycarbonate as part of its materials, the clipSYNC will allow you to sync and charge your device wherever you are, and is specially constructed to withstand normal wear and tear which occurs whenever you travel. Too bad USB 3.0 connectivity is not supported, but we will make do with USB 2.0 at the moment. The Scosche clipSYNC can be picked up for $19.99 a pop.

Research In Motion says “Sorry” with free premium apps

by Edwin

If you are a BlackBerry user (or one who follows tech news rather closely), you would definitely have heard about the BlackBerry outage that happened for a good three days or so across different continents throughout the earth. I am not quite sure just how many businesses were disrupted in terms of communications, especially companies that issued BlackBerrys to employees as the standard communication tool of choice. Were you affected? I can just imagine the amount of frustration that you had, but nice to know that everything is back up and running now – with Research In Motion (RIM) being man enough to say “I’m sorry.”

Of course, apologies mean nothing if there is no action to show off the feeling of remorse, and I must say that I am quite impressed with RIM as they announced that they will be making available a selection of premium apps that are worth more than $100 in total for free. These apps will be released to customers in the coming weeks via the BlackBerry App World route, and will be up there for download until the last day of the year.

LG DoublePlay released by T-Mobile

by Edwin

T-Mobile might not be offering the iPhone 4S, but that does not mean the cellular company has nothing interesting for the masses. Here is a smartphone that might just tickle your fancy, especially when you figured out some time ago that having just one touchscreen display is not good enough for you. After all, you are a corporate high flyer, and you were born with “multi-tasking” as your middle name. If only someone came up with a smartphone which had dual displays, you thought to yourself.

I guess sometimes thoughts do translate themselves into reality, where most of the time that happens because of the thinker. This time around, it is LG who will receive the plaudits for rolling out the world’s first smartphone that will feature dual capacitive touchscreen displays, delivering true multitasking capability in the process. T-Mobile would be the carrier of choice here, so if you’re going to rock to what LG deems as “the ultimate multitasking handset”, then you might want to check out just what kind of data plans they’re offering.

Keystone Eco Slider keyboard for iPhone 4S

by Edwin

The iPhone 4S isn’t even out yet in your hands, but that doesn’t mean accessories are lining up and vying for your attention. Concord Keystone knows this, and intends to jostle with the rest of the competition for your attention with their Keystone Eco Slider keyboard that will hook up easily with your iPhone 4S (as well as its predecessor) via Bluetooth connectivity in order for those who have yet to get used to a virtual keyboard to churn out those text messages as well as long winded emails in a flurry.

There is no need to install more software to bloat things up, and just like the iPhone, it sports a minimalist look. This 50 key configuration will come in a 2-level sliding case.It won’t suck up juice from your iPhone since it has its own built-in rechargeable battery that can be juiced up via a mini-USB cable. LG Doubleplay lives up to its name with two screens

by Mark R

This is the LG Doubleplay, and honestly, I couldn’t think of a better name. After all, what else do you call a smartphone that has two screens?

Originally, it was code-named the Flip II, but I guess they decided that name was too sequel-ish. I’ve never really seen a phone like this with a 320 x 480 HVGA main display, a secondary display, and a QWERTY keyboard that is split down the middle like that. I’m going to go out on a limb and assume that both screens are touchscreens.

Not much else is known about this phone, and I suppose that it was just a matter of time before someone created a flip-phone with two screens. I would have thought that the designer of such a phone would have phased out a QWERTY keyboard entirely, and have gone with a touchscreen keyboard on the secondary screen.

Kanex AirBlue Portable Bluetooth Music Receiver

by Mark R

This little disc that you see here is the Kanex AirBlue, and it is very similar to the Orb Music Player that I covered a few days ago.

It its own words, the Kanex AirBlue is a portable Bluetooth-based music receiver that enables a user to wirelessly play, listen and control all favorite media from an iDevice, smartphone, or any Bluetooth compatible device.

I got to try it out, and it involves pairing a phone with the AirBlue disc and plugging it into the speakers. The range is about 33 feet away, and it works with the “high fidelity and premium sound” that it advertises.
