AT&T introduces Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket

by Edwin

If you thought that the Samsung Galaxy S II is a bad boy all by itself, then think again. AT&T ups the ante yet again among smartphone users with their latest release, the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket. The “Skyrocket” suffix is there for a very good reason – it will be a smartphone that allows you to enjoy fast 4G LTE (Long Term Evolution) speeds on your Samsung smartphone.

Hitting stores this coming November 6th, the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket will sport a 1.5GHz dual core processor, a 4.5″ SuperAMOLED Plus display at 800 x 480 pixels, Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread right out of the box, meaning you need not wait for a software update, an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera that is aided by an LED flash, with a 2-megapixel front-facing camera for video calls, 16GB of internal memory and a microSD memory card slot.

Expect to fork out $249.99 for the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket with a two-year commitment, where you obviously need to spend even more each month for data plans that will take advantage of its LTE connectivity.

Nokia bends reality with Kinetic bendy phone

by Edwin

We do know that folks are working on flexible displays already at the moment (and have been for quite some time, actually), but they are not quite ready for prime time action just yet. Well, one good thing about concepts is the fact that the rules of reality and physics can be bent – without having to worry about cost. Some concepts tdo make it to reality from time to time though, and with Nokia, they have managed to come up with the Kinectic bendy phone which allows you to twist it, squeeze it, and flex it. Could it really be the shape of things to come?

The recently concluded Nokia World 2011 saw Tapani Jokinen, Head of Design, Technology Insights, show off what could very well be the future – the Kinectic bendy phone. The name itself gives the game away, where you will be able to control this unique smartphone not through a touchscreen user interface like what we’re so used to, but rather, by bending and twisting it – heck, even squeezing it if it is required.

T-Mobile rolls out the Samsung Exhibit II 4G

by Edwin

T-Mobile has a spanking new smartphone for you to consider if you are on the lookout for one – and their latest effort would be the Samsung Exhibit II 4G. This could very well be considered as one of the more affordable 4G smartphones out there, which comes in good time too, cosnidering the kind of economic situation the world is in at the moment. The Samsung Exhibit II 4G will feature rich entertainment features, and even better is the fact that you can pick it up without having to sign up for any annual contract, or if you so desire, there is also a two-year contract option – and you can choose either.

Another interesting fact is this – the Samsung Exhibit II 4G is also the first no annual contract 4G smartphone that will be sold at most Walmart stores. For the rest of the country who want one on either a 2-year contract or without, they will have to wait until November 2nd.

Nokia Lumia 710 unveiled

by Edwin

The Nokia Lumia 800 might be the flagship Windows Phone handset for Nokia when it rolls out, but if you are on a tight budget and want to give Windows Phone a chance and yet do not know where to start, who do you turn to? Some say that you need not look elsewhere, as Nokia also has a more affordable model for those curious about Windows Phone, where Nokia World 2011 saw the announcement of the Nokia Lumia 710.

The Nokia Lumia 710 takes on a more youthful appearance, where it has the ability to exchange back covers in different colors to suit your mood and fashion sense for that particular day – bringing back memories of those Xpress On covers in the past. Well, enough about history – the Nokia Lumia 710 is clearly future forward in terms of software, which we will cover in greater detail after the jump.

Nokia Lumia 800 announced

by Edwin

London was the place to be yesterday if you are a Nokia fan – after all, that was where the Finnish phone manufacturing company held their Nokia World 2011 event that saw their flagship model, the Nokia Lumia 800, announced. This will be the first Windows Phone 7.5 Mango smartphone from their stable (alongside the Nokia Lumia 710, of course), boasting a physical design that is not too far off from that of the sleek looking MeeGo-powered N9.

It seems that initial impressions of the device have proved to be rather positive, letting it fall under the category of feeling better in real life than what it looks like on screenshots and online images. We will take a closer look at the Nokia Lumia 800 in the extended post.

The HTC EVO family has just gotten larger – thanks to the introduction of the HTC EVO Design 4G. Making its way to the market via Sprint, this will be the first EVO family member that boasts of World Phone capabilities. Samsung announces next Google flagship – the Galaxy Nexus

by Edwin

Google’s flagship smartphones used to hail from HTC, but it seemed as though somewhere along the way, they switched to Samsung’s camp. That is not necessarily a bad thing though, as Samsung did a pretty good job so far – and the recently revealed Samsung Galaxy Nexus further cements the South Korean company’s reputation as a prime handset manufacturer, coming a long way since its humble beginnings. I still remember the cheap, plastic handsets that Samsung used to roll out, until the unique Blue ‘i’ model hit the market – now that was certainly a beauty, barring its build quality.

Fast forward to today, and you have the Galaxy Nexus, being the first smartphone in the world that is powered by Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, the latest release of the Android platform. In addition, your eyes will certainly appreciate what the 4.65″ HD Super AMOLED display technology is able to deliver – we’re talking about 720p resolution alongside a 1.2GHz dual core processor running proceedings from within, now how about that?

Motorola Droid RAZR brings new meaning to the word ‘thin’

by Edwin

When Motorola first rolled out the RAZR phone all those years ago, I was part of the crowd that certainly lost sleep over the phone. It was so slim at that time, and despite coming in a clamshell form factor with Motorola’s much maligned user interface, it looked good from the outside. So good that it proved to be the Achilles Heel of Motorola, as whatever they churned out after the RAZR failed to capture the imagination of the market – victims of their own success, really.

Nice to know that Google’s Android operating system managed to pull Motorola back from the brink with the original Motorola Droid, and here we are many generations later with the Motorola Droid RAZR, perhaps the amalgamation of both names might prove to be quite the killer. No matter what people say though, you cannot deny that this is also a thing of beauty, basically putting “impossible” into your pocket.
