Tiny Wireless Earpieces

October 24th, 2006 by Al in Audio/Video Gadgets, Mobile Phones

Wireless EarpiecesThese have got to be the smallest earpieces I’ve ever seen, the micro earpieces slot into your ears and are near invisible.

I’m pleased to say all models are wireless (having an invisible earpiece with a wire dangling from it would have kind of defeated the object). Communications is via Bluetooth or an inductive coil that you wear under your clothes.

They may be small but they’re certainly not cheap with prices starting at over $200. More info over at wintec, thanks to fellow gadget enthusiast MystD for the heads up on these tiny devices.

Fancy a cellphone made from hair?

October 15th, 2006 by Edwin in Mobile Phones

ivory-phone.jpgNo, the word ‘Ivory’ does not stand for its brand, neither is it a new line of cellphones. In fact, it is actually made from some really tough hair which is better known as ivory, hence it’s namesake. The luxury cellphone was designed in the bowels of Guangzhou, China, where the street culture permits all sorts of exotic fanfare such as monkey brains and dog soup, making something as unsavory as an Ivory cellphone look pretty ordinary.

Docking Speaker System for cellphones

October 14th, 2006 by Edwin in Audio/Video Gadgets, Electronic Gadgets, Mobile Phones

trust-cellphone-sound-station.jpgLet’s face the fact - there are more than enough iPod docks out there in the market which probably outnumber the population of a small country, and having yet another one released will not do anyone any good at all. A speaker dock for a cellphone, on the other hand, is entirely different as those are extremely rare in comparison with their iPod-toting brethren. Trust has taken up the task to offer the sidelined musical cellphone market a pretty decent alternative when it comes to playback of your favorite tunes for everybody to hear.

Live News via Treo Phone

October 13th, 2006 by methodshop in Audio/Video Gadgets, Mobile Phones, Tech News

When a single-engine plane crashed into an Upper East Side apartment building on Wednesday, Fox News Channel delivered early video to its viewers from the crash site using a hand-held mobile phone with live streaming video.

Scott Wilder, a Fox cameraman, had been about 20 blocks away on another assignment when the crash occurred. Wilder ran uptown and reported live from the scene using a hand-held Palm Treo Smartphone that uses the existing mobile network to transmit video to the Fox News control room. From there, Fox News sent it out live on TV to supplement other video being shot by local traffic helicopters.

The picture quality from the crash site wasn’t spectacular, but it was live. Wilder was also able to talk to “Studio B” anchor Shepard Smith on the same phone and give a live “man on the street” report to Fox viewers.

As these advanced video phones become more and more popular, we can probably expect a surge of citizen journalism. If YouTube can make anyone an Internet celebrity, a video phone can make anyone a reporter. Right?

Auvi PHIP65 Dual Mode Cordless Phone

October 11th, 2006 by Edwin in Electronic Gadgets, Home Gadgets, Mobile Phones

auvi-phip65.jpgThe advent of VoIP services like Skype certainly ushered about a brand new era in communications, where an entry-level computer coupled with a broadband connection is more than enough to provide you with the necessary tools to hold long distance conversations with someone else across the globe without forking out a cent. This means you kiss goodbye to monstrously high phone bills at the end of the month. But does that make the regular house phone obsolete? Not quite yet, as there are still plenty of older folks out there who do not even know how to operate a computer, let alone a cellphone, hence their reliance on the traditional landline to keep in touch.
