The Amazing OpenX

by Mike

OpenX
Everybody knows the warm and fuzzy feeling you get after purchasing a new gadget, and if you’re like me, as soon as you get into the car, you’re ready to open it. The only problem is that the gadget is under about a pound of thick plastic that your have no hope of getting open unless you’ve got a real nice pair of scissors handy.

Finally there’s a cheap way to totally eliminate this problem; it’s called the OpenX. It looks flimsy at first glance, but it will easily cut through any plastic you throw at it. Including those pesky ones that cover your precious gadgets.

by Mike

iKaraoke
Karaoke has always been a great way to embarrass yourself in front of friends and strangers, but, until now, there’s been no way to do some karaoke on your iPod.

Fortunately, Griffin makes some pretty sweet iPod accessories, and that’s only going to continue when they release the iKaraoke come Winter of 06.

Over-Ear Book Light

by Al

Ear LightA couple of weeks ago we reported on the LED pen which is great if you want to write in the dark with out turning the main lights on. Todays light gadget is a solution to the same problem but instead of the LED being incorporated into a pen it simply clips over your ear.

As the light is effectively attached to your head the beam will shine where ever your head is facing, so you’ll be able to read in bed or on a plane without disturbing other people. The bulb is advertised to last for over 100,000 hours, so that should be enough time to read War and Peace.

The Over-Ear Book Light is available for $24.95, thanks to emoms at home for pointing it out :) .

plusID
More and more these days, fingerprint scanners are being built into laptops, but they haven’t yet made their way into fobs, until now.

The folks at plusID have the pleasure to bill themselves as the first to put a fingerprint scanner into something you can pop onto your keychain. Hoorah for them.

Pogo Stick Extreme

by methodshop

Looking for the next extreme sport? How about Extreme Pogo Sticking!? All you need is a pogo stick on steroids like the Flybar 1200.

This isn’t your average pogo stick (pro skateboarder Andy Macdonald helped develop it). The Flybar 1200 has a complex spring system consisting of 12 independent rubber thrusters capable of producing 1,200 pounds of power. In case you are wondering, that’s enough to get a 170-pound rider over 5 feet of elevation.

The Flybar 1200 also has extra-wide foot pads, with skateboard grip tape for stability and control. You’ll need that extra stability if you decide to do some backflips. Yep. I said backflips.

Unique Exercising Office Chairs

by Al

swopper chair
Being a full-time coder means I don’t get a lot of exercise when working (unless you call 6 round trips to the coffee machine followed by 6 round trips to the loo exercise). Today I came across 2 computer chairs that could help burn the calories when I’m sat coding or blogging.
