Cubisto – The 3D Frame

by Al

3D Art FrameThis is a novel way of making your old junk into a work of art, Cubisto, a frame for 3D objects.

Cubisto works by wrapping the object to display in a cling film like substance, which is then stretched inside the frame to make it look like your object is floating on it’s own. So now even the crappiest of empty beer can collections can be displayed with style.

The Cubisto frames are available from Firebox for £14.95 each.

The Inkless Metal Pen

by Al

Metal Pen

This is something of an oddity, an ink-less pen. The pen is made out of stainless steel and works by it’s special metal nib leaving a metal residue on the paper, so it the ink will never run out but I’m guessing the nib will wear down over time.

The metal pen is available from Grand Illusions for £14.99.

Digitize your shopping lists

by Mike

SmartShopper
I’ve tried to use the voice recognition technology in Windows before and it was a matter of minutes before I realized how inaccurate (very, very inaccurate) it was. Maybe it’s going to be vastly improved in Vista and Leopard, but I’m not holding my breath. Why am I saying this? Because this next gadget, the SmartShopper, tries to use voice recognition to digitize your shopping lists.

Dental research should relief our pain

by Dan

dentist.jpgIt was about time! Is there a more widespread fear as that of going to the dentist? Even more embarrassing is the fact that it torments kids just like grown ups!

This problem should end up soon, though. The Buffalo’s School of Dental Medicine is in fact conducting two studies that should develop no-needle anesthesia and a technique to treat dental cavities without using drills (thanks GOD!).

The first study was funded with $100,000 and it is planning to create a nasal spray capable of numbing the upper teeth. This should eliminate completely the need for injections for any treatment that involves the upper part of your teeth. Continue reading » Dental research should relief our pain

From now on we’ll call it the Lovie Pump.

by Fred

Yeah, I said it!Lovie Smith getty images

Lovie Smith, the Head coach of the Chicago Bears (they’re playing in the Super Bowl this Sunday,, American Football,,, never mind).

Anyway, he has been wearing a sideline jacket that everyone has been asking about and no one had a clue about. Well I finally sorted it. Thanks to Paul Lukas the proprietor of Uniwatch, a great blog (oh yeah, he writes for ESPN too) that’s all about what athletes are wearing (though I think he could write a bit more about the ridiculous new Mclaren race suits, but we aren’t talking about that now,, poor Fernando & Lewis).

This jacket he’s wearing is really cool, or better than that, it’s warm. As some of you know, Chicago Illinois is known for having cold winters,, very cold (it’s the freaking Windy City!) This jacket from Reebok has air pockets inside and pumps for inflating them in the pockets for inflating them.

Get those wheels off the ground!!!

by Fred

So the folks over at Jalopnik, who by the way are awesome, and if you have ANY love of cars at all you shouldJackhole check them out (after coming here to Coolest-gadgets.com of course!)

They have a wonderful piece about how to jack up your car (in the good way, not the steal all the parts from someone’s car way).

I felt compelled to include this, as we have many a reader who can likely rebuild a linux system with one hand behind their head (it’s harder than behind your back ok). Yet, they likely had trouble identifying anything under the bonnet of their car, (see there, I used bonnet, not hood, do I get any English points?)

The nice thing is, well they go through the whole process for you. Which, if you’re a newbie at it, can help a bundle.

Furthermore, they tell you what you need to get, and thereby our gadget goodness comes into play. I could tell you what the best budget plan to do this is,,,but this is Coolest-gadgets, and quite frankly, this is how we roll.

With the SWEETEST setups. (follow the jump baby!!) (oh yeah, catch Continue reading » live timing for the Rolex 24 here (you have 22 hours left (starting now)!) Get those wheels off the ground!!!

Tiny,, tiny hands, are cutting out your bad parts.

by Fred

After coming across this,, the only thing that went through my head was,,

tiny hands medgadget
‘Like a surgeon, hey! ‘Thanks to Weird Al, a healthy imagination, and friends who are surgeons. I couldn’t help but think what a wonderful thing this is.

It is a mechanical hand, the smallest in the world. When the “fist” is closed (you can well imagine other titles for this post came to mind,, now get your mind out of the gutter!) As I was saying, when the fist is closed the diameter of the assembly is under 1mm.

That folks is small!

Also, the hand is operated pneumatically. You’ve likely heard that word many times before and said, “What the hell does that mean?” Simple,, pneumatics are mechanisms powered by some sort of gas. What does that mean in this application?

Good question! Continue reading » Tiny,, tiny hands, are cutting out your bad parts.
