Coin Counting Money Jar

April 17th, 2006 by Al in Miscellaneous Gadgets, Wacky Gadgets

Counting Money JarI’m a big fan of money but I hate having lots of loose change weighing down my pockets so after a night out I tend to simply empty my pockets into my rainy day money jar. Then once a year or so I’ll put my counting head on, bag up the coins and watch all the cashiers hide when I get to the bank.

The coin counting bank is just like my existing money jar but it saves me the job of counting as it counts whenever you drop your coinage shrapnel through the lid. I’m not sure how (or even if) it knows the difference between the different coin values but it does look cool and tacky.

Paint You Own Tent

April 16th, 2006 by Al in Miscellaneous Gadgets

Paint Your Own Tent SampleIf you enjoy the music and mud of festivals but find it impossible to find your tent amongst the other thousands of identical looking ones then this could be the answer, the tent you paint yorself.

Out of the bag the Paint Your Own Festival Tent is bright white (probably not ideal for festivals) but comes complete with a collection of colored paints, so you can paint any pattern you want to make it stand out from the crowd. Could also be an idea to have a drunken tent painting party round the campfire. Just don’t paint it green.

Available in the UK from Millets.

Gadgets that didn’t make it off the drawing board.

April 15th, 2006 by Paz in Miscellaneous Gadgets, Wacky Gadgets

It’s been a quiet holiday weekend and there’s not much new on the gadget front so I started looking for some archive material on gadgets that didn’t make it.

Two are gadgets associated with menstruation, one with sexual intercourse. At first I thought it wasn’t cool to make fun of such matters, but on reflection I think that they shouldn’t be a taboo subject.

Please judge for yourself!

Novel Bookcase

April 14th, 2006 by Al in Miscellaneous Gadgets

Novel BookcaseThis is a novel idea for a book case (pun certainly intended), metal rectangular frames that you hang from a pole (the probably sounds stranger than it looks).

The idea behind them is simple, each square holds about 6 books (or 2 Harry Potter’s) where the base of the book rests on the bottom of the square whilst the back rests against a bar at the back (thus preventing it from resting in a pile on the floor). As your book collection grows you simply get more book hangers and hang them on to each other. A very novel approach to book storage.

A gadget that interprets a baby’s cries.

April 13th, 2006 by Paz in Miscellaneous Gadgets

Baby cry analyser

This isn’t so much a gadget as a life saver. We have a 4 month old baby that doesn’t yet seem to be able to articulate himself other than to scream when he’s unhappy. The wife’s going back to work soon and I’ll be taking care of Paz junior.

I have to say that the prospect terrified me – until I found the “WhyCry” analyser! It’s a device that analyses babies’ cries and identifies them according to their different causes.

Host Your Own Foam Party

April 13th, 2006 by Al in Miscellaneous Gadgets

Foam Making Gun
If you enjoy foam parties but are getting a bit long in the tooth to be heading out to clubs this gadget could be right up your street, the Foam Factory.

Firebox summed the foam factory up pretty nicely with:

The Foam Factory really is one of the best outdoor party accessories we’ve ever seen, as foam seems to bring out the inner-loon in everyone. It also encourages party-goers to remove the odd item of clothing. Which is nice. So get ordering and soap up your soirées before the whole world goes full-on foam-party crazy.

As you probably guessed it’s available from Firebox, let the parties and wet T-Shirts begin :).
