Stop Dogs Barking with a Gadget

April 26th, 2006 by Al in Home Gadgets, Miscellaneous Gadgets

Super Bark StopIf you have an annoying neighbour or more appropriately a neighbour with an annoying barking dog you’ll love this gadget, the stupidly named Super Bark Stop.

The Super Bark Stop works by deterring barking dogs with an ultrasonic tone that only dogs can hear. Whenever a bark is detected the Super Bark Stop will spring into action, hopefully (if the dog isn’t too dumb) it will associate it’s annoying barking with the the vengeful (but harmless) ultrasonic sound hence causing it to shut up.

You can get the Super Bark Stop (why did they call it that) from Untangled Life.

Robot that Can Walk on Water

April 26th, 2006 by Al in Miscellaneous Gadgets

Walk on water RobotA professor at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh has developed a robot that can run on water. Inspired by the basilisk lizard (AKA the Jesus lizard), the robot has paddles for feet which by “slapping” on the surface of the water give it both upward and forward momentum.

Other than the obvious cool remote control toy market the robot could also have a serious use in the field of search and rescue and it just goes to show how much we can learn from the animal kingdom (I actually sounded serious on a post then).

You can read more about it on Discovery.

The USB Nail Polisher

April 25th, 2006 by Al in Miscellaneous Gadgets, Wacky Gadgets

USB Nail PolisherI think I can safely say this gadget is 100% for our female readers, the USB Nail Polisher. Yup that’s right you can now polish your nails whilst at the PC. Not that I’ve ever used a nail polisher but I bet this is the sort of USB device all manicurists have been waiting for.

Watch out next week for the USB nail varnish remover and curlers :).

You can *actually* buy the pink USB Nail Polisher from Audio Cubes.

Never Forget Your Keys Again

April 24th, 2006 by Al in Miscellaneous Gadgets, Wacky Gadgets

RFID HandbagIf the lady in you life is a bit dosey when it comes to remembering keys and things then this handbag could be the ideal solution. The bag uses RFID technology to detect what is inside and outside the bad, so say you want to ensure that you always have your mobile with you, simply attache an RFID tag to your phone and the bag will be able to keep track of it’s whereabouts.

To remind you what you’ve forgotten to pack the bag shows a simple LED image on the side representing the missing item (though I’m not quite sure what the heart in the picture means).

Hour Glass Clock

April 23rd, 2006 by Lexia in Cool Clocks, Miscellaneous Gadgets

Hour Glass ClockIf you are like me, you’re always on the lookout for new and exciting timepieces to fill your small, yet perfectly appointed home. Here’s one of my recent favourites - the Hour Glass Clock. Unlike many modern clocks, the Hour Glass clock can comfortably double as a conversation point.

What’s so interesting about this clock? Well, first off it’s got that legendary hour-glass figure - a modern twist on a design classic. But more compelling is the fact that both the top and bottom parts rotate about the central axis at different speeds, so as to accurating measure the passage of time. Spend hours of fun, rapt to the delights of this rotating clock.

The Hour Glass Clock is available from Gadgets.co.uk for a mere £24.99.
