iBreath iPhone/iPod accessory could potentially save lives

by Mark R

I’m not certain if there is a huge market for personal breathalyzer tests, but I definitely think the iBreath is on the right track.

For starters, it is designed to plug right into your iPhone or iPod, which serves as the power source for this electronic breathalyzer. All the inebriated needs to do is blow into the whistle-shaped end there, and he or she will get an automatic readout of his or her Blood Alcohol Level, without an officer ever being present.

There is no doubt that the iBreath could easily save lives, and the life that it saves could be the driver’s. Yet this main feature is not enough for designer David Steele, who took it a step further at put an FM transmitter on it. This will enable the driver to listen to some music off their iPod/iPhone from their car radio. Maybe that will sober him or her up.

Mamoru: A Robot to Assist the Aged

by Mark R

This next device is an interesting conceptual robot created by the University of Tokyo, and is designed to assist the elderly in their daily tasks. The Mamoru may not have arms or legs for active assistance, but it does have something that many old people lack: memory.

The eyes of the Mamoru are designed for more than just aesthetics. These are wide angle camera lenses, and Mamoru is designed to scan objects with image recognition software.

How is this helpful? Let’s say that grandma can’t find her remote control, glasses, or slippers. The Mamoru will politely tell her where they are because it is not susceptible to Alzheimer’s disease. It can also be programmed to remind her when to take her medication.

Smoking Everywhere for a healthier you

You know the feeling as the year draws to a close and you enter into another pensive mood swing, thinking of all the broken New Year resolutions. Girding yourself, you figure out since New Year’s just a couple more weeks or so away, why not roll forward those resolutions? Apart from trying to kick the habit of the bottle, another major habit that people want to rid themselves of would be smoking. There are plenty of anti-smoking aids in the market to help those who find it difficult to take the cold turkey route, but not all of them are effective. Just like how different strokes work for different folks, so the same applies to equipment that help you quit smoking. Electronic cigarettes are part of the regime, and we’ll take a look at what Smoking Everywhere has to offer right after the jump.

by Edwin

Western has recently announced the debut of its oxyQuik Emergency Oxygen Unit in the US and Canada, and is touted to be a major advancement in the delivery of oxygen for emergency situations. This self-contained unit does not require a doctorate in rocket science since no complicated assembly is required, and it is versatile enough to be used or administered by any individual with minimal training. This makes the oxyQuik Emergency Oxygen Unit the easiest to use Emergency Oxygen Unit in the market currently. Benefits of the oxyQuik Emergency Oxygen Unit include :-

  • For use at home or public area
  • Up to 25 minutes of continuous oxygen flow
  • User-Friendly, one-touch design
  • Kink resistant hose – will ensure oxygen pressure remains strong
  • Adult/Pediatric mask
  • Refillable
  • No prescription required, when administered by properly trained personnel
  • Emergency oxygen training included
  • Dedicated customer support

Research has shown that the average response time for EMS to arrive is 10 to 12 minutes. Sonic Nausea Device makes you want to throw up

by Mark R

I realize that the title of this particular article is obvious, to say the least. After all, this tiny device is called the Sonic Nausea because it uses “a unique combination of ultra-high frequency soundwaves” to produce nauseous effects for those in its range.

The Sonic Nausea is also capable of causing “headaches, intense irritation, sweating, imbalance”, as well as making people puke. It is powered by a 9-volt battery that is actually bigger than the device itself. That won’t get you too much power, but it is possible to increase the runtime with six AA batteries with transistor clips.

The device is available at the SHOMER-TEC site for about $29.00, and the description states the possibilities are endless. For example: “hiding this device in your inconsiderate neighbor’s house might put an end to their late-night parties”. It went on to suggest other covert operations, such as hiding the Sonic Nausea in “the abusive bureaucrat’s office or the executive lunchroom”.

iBreath Alcohol Breathalyzer for your iPhone or iPod

by Edwin

Just when you thought that iPod accessories consist of nothing but cases, speaker docks and earphones, along comes the iBreath Alcohol Breathalyzer. This is pretty much a self-explanatory device – it allows you to take your own alcohol breath test before your brain cells decide that it is better to catch a cab home instead of attempting to rush headlong into a DUI charge.

The iBreath Alcohol Breathalyzer does not require any batteries to run as it sips power off the iPod it is connected to, and all functions as well as results are shown on the iBreath LCD display. It has a BAC range of 0.000 to 0.100% and comes with a timer to let you know when’s the next time for a test. Nice to see it comes with an integrated FM transmitter as well, transmitting your favorite iPod tunes to just about any FM tuner.
