Mention Bang & Olufsen in the same breath and chances are you would feel a lump form in your throat as you know full well that you aren’t able to afford purchasing anything from this brand, even if it is a souvenir item with its brand name emblazoned across it. Well, the same applies for Bang & Olufsen’s latest release, the BeoVision 7 which comes with a new 55″ screen size, upping the ante where its previous 40″ model left off in North America. Known as the BeoVision 7-55, this model will integrate the sophisticated Bang & Olufsen BeoSystem 3 video engine that offers superior signal processing courtesy of its VisionClear package of picture improvement technologies. Apart from that, Bang & Olufsen introduces yet another improvement with the double frame rate technology at 120Hz alongside motion compensation and progressive scanning backlight. All these technologies will work in tandem to reduce the inherent blur typical of LCD screens by a significant margin, offering crystal clear and sharp pictures even under intense scenes.

The LCD display that comes with the BeoVision 7-55 will be based on new direct-type LED-backlight with local dimming for greater contrast. You will also be able to enjoy state-of-the-art features for a smooth picture performance, coupled with a sophisticated digital surround sound module, and gives you the bragging rights of being one of the few flat screen TVs that are in the market at the moment which comes with a built-in Blu-ray player for all of your High Definition needs.

You can choose from natural aluminum, black, blue, dark grey and red colors. Available at all Bang & Olufsen retail locations from the middle of this month till late November onwards, the entire BeoVision 7-55 system will cost you a whopping $18,700 – of course, it will also come with a floor stand and center speaker just in case you were wondering just how far the dollar’s purchasing power is these days.

ARRIS has just announced their latest three-tuner version of the Moxi HD DVR that ought to arrive in time for the upcoming holiday season. With the world economy still in the doldrums despite positive news trickling from here and there, surely the coming Christmas season won’t see a mad rush? Or will people stick to tradition and just let their hair down in the coming month, worrying more about whether they have gifts for everyone in mind instead of learning to stretch that ever-depreciating dollar. Well, good news for those who want a HD DVR as the three-tuner Moxi HD DVR is raring to make its debut.

What is the new three-tuner Moxi HD DVR capable of doing anyways, you ask? For starters, it allows for recording of three channels simultaneously – all of these happening while you’re watching a fourth recorded program. You can pick it up in a Moxi HD DVR plus Moxi Mate bundle for $799. As for those who are on a tighter budget and want the two-tuner Moxi HD DVR that was introduced earlier this year instead, you’ll be pleased to know that the former $799 price point has dropped to just $499. Apart from that, you can also opt for the three-room multi-room bundle option that sees a three-tuner Moxi HD DVR and two Moxi Mates that can serve three rooms for a dollar under one grand.

Some of the key specifications and features available on the Moxi HD DVR include :-

A native HD interface and Emmy award-winning Moxi Menu

Up to 75 hours of HD recording space or up to 300 hours at standard definition, and expandable to 6.5 Terabytes for up to 1000 hours of HD recording with an external eSATA drive

Access to many Internet services consumers already use, such as Rhapsody, Flickr and online video from Netflix, Hulu, and YouTube via DLNA server software such as PlayOn (currently provided at no charge) running on their PC

Multi-room viewing with the Moxi Mate and the ability to record three channels simultaneously while watching a fourth recorded program on the three-tuner version of the Moxi HD DVR

Remote and mobile browser scheduling to set recordings while away from home

MoxiNet for full-screen web browsing and Superticker – a ticker widget that provides information, such as weather, sports scores and news along the bottom of the screen

(By the way, that isn’t my hand in the photo, but an image included in the Press Release.) Since this is my first time with a pocket-projector, you might notice that I am a little excited about it.

The MPro 120 works with surprising ease on my laptop computer. All I had to do was plug it into the wall to recharge the battery, and two hours later, it is good for about two to four hours worth of projection time. Then I plugged it into my laptop, and set it up as a secondary monitor.

From there, I was able to get an image as wide as 50 inches, and it looked very clear on a blank wall in the dark. The MPro120 came with a tripod for theater-like setup, and I was able to watch some shows from Hulu as if they were movies on the big screen. That really helped bring the FlashForward show to life.

The sound wasn’t all that great, even turned up at loud levels. If you are going to use the MPro 120 for audio presentations, then I highly recommend bringing a speaker like that one from Sharper Image.

You are also going to need to get yourself some extra connectors if you want to project files from your iPod or iPhone, because the MPro 120 does not come with attachments for Apple products.

Last time I checked on Amazon, the going rate for a 3M Pro 120 is about $319.50. That is a small price to pay for a cheap home theater setup.

Okoro Media Systems is pretty famous for their range of digital entertainment systems in the A/V market, and the company recently introduced its 2010 Quantum mini Digital Entertainment Systems that will come in the form of the OMS-Q100 and the OMS-Q200. Both models will come in extremely small footprints, making sure you can place them discreetly in your home without sticking out like a sore thumb. The 2010 Quantum minis were specially designed to hold your entire collection of digital music, photos and movies together, even letting you record High Definition TV programming for viewing later on. This is a classic case of not being fooled by its size – the mini machines you see here (no taller than a regular can of COke!) are powerful enough to handle 1080p Blu-ray movie playback while upscaling your existing collection of DVDs without breaking a sweat. In addition to the aforementioned HDTV recording capability, both models can handle HD program recording of up to two channels simultaneously – regardless of whether you’re relying on an antenna, cable or satellite TV.

The Quantum minis are not only small, they’re powerful and were manufactured to be so discreet that they run cool and quiet. Individual units will come with a quiet active cooling technology which will enable the unit register a barely audible sound, which comes in handy in a home theater environment. The OMS-QX100 will be powered by a low powered Intel mobile processor, whereas the QX200 is based on the Nvidia ION processor that has been proven to offer an above average performance without sipping too much juice, especially when it comes to video decoding technology. Shared features include HDMI 1.3 outputs, Blu-ray/DVD drives and a low power consumption of under 50 Watts. If you’re not looking forward to a regular black color, there is always the option to pick up special versions that come in an unlimited number of color combinations.

Unless you have a Logitech diNovo Mini, you might want to look at this very intriguing Wireless Keyboard and HTPC remote.

Yes, that is what this is, not some new version of BlackBerry or some prototype version of the Palm Pre. This is a wireless keyboard that works via wireless dongle, and that “screen” that you see is a touchpad.

According to the official sales site, it can be used for many applications in presentation including: changing slides, selecting screen options, writing on a projected image, as well as emphasize words and objects with dynamically inserted lines.

In addition to its ability to help presentations, it can be used on the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and Nintendo Wii. It is also good for those for those who love to watch internet TV on their PC.

In addition to being a HTPC remote control, it is an IPTV remote control, or CarPC remote control. I suppose this makes it a double 3-in-1, as it is a keyboard, mouse, and touchpad.

If you want to get this one, feel free to go to this particular website and get it for $40 in black and white.

I haven’t ever heard of a single person who hasn’t lost their remote at least a few times. I’m sure there are some out there, but they are few and far between. Myself, I have a couch that will try to eat anything you place on it, remotes included. I usually know to check inside of the couch to find the remote again, so that is one advantage. If you’re in a household with a big family though, losing track of a remote would be pretty easy. Which is where this Remote Buddy would be helpful, it makes it possible to page your remotes, so you can find them again.

It has a spot for four different remotes to sit in the device and then a cup holder that can be clipped to either side of the Remote Buddy. It comes with a total of four color coded receivers that attach to the back of each remote control. Not only will it give a designated spot to lay your remotes, when it’s not placed there you can push a button to make the receiver on the remote chime so that you can find it. This isn’t exactly a gadget for those that are down to one remote, but it would help out those that have a whole mess of remotes. You can purchase it for $39.98 from First Street.

When LCD TVs first hit the market, we were bowled over by their apparent slimness compared to what we see in our living rooms dominated by fat, chunky CRTs. Well, times have definitely changed (for the better) as CRTs have been phased out since then, and LCD TVs are the de facto standard when it comes to your living room viewing experience. LG ups the ante further with their latest release of a full HD LED LCD HDTV which is more or less as thin as it gets, bearing the image of a single sheet of glass. Making a splash at CEDIA 2009, the new SL90 series of HDTVs from LG will come in 42″ and 47″ sizes, where they both will feature LED lighting and other stunning display technologies.

LG employs a single-layer design and a narrow bezel in order to develop a visually stunning set, where the main target is to maximize the viewing experience while increasing the market value of your home by a notch as whoever drops by for a visit will definitely note the good taste you have in furnishing your pad with nothing but the very best. A special film lamination technology is used for better color tuning, gradation and reduction of glare, where it is all squeezed into a sleek, minimalist package. The flat surface is achieved by the lamination process, where it virtually does away with the visible line between the screen and the bezel whenever no power is supplied to the set.

Sporting a maximum depth of just 1.5″, LG’s SL90 series’ usage of the LED LCD screen will produce an extremely high dynamic contrast ratio of 3,000,000:1 that results in ever truer blacks (this is where the philosophical question of whether truth is relative or not can be answered) and finer gradations between grays. Apart from that, the film lamination process adds anti-glare properties to the screen by reducing distracting reflections so that anyone who views it will always enjoy a cinema-quality experience. LG will release the 42″ and 47″ models later this Fall for $2,099 and $2,599, respectively.

Work is extremely demanding these days, and as the saying goes, “a man’s home is his castle” so why not pamper yourself whenever you’re back after a long, hard day at the office? Instead of investing in a spa system, why not keep that mind entertained with the latest blockbusters while your ears enjoy above average audio quality through the Panasonic SC-BTX70 2.1 channel Blu-ray Disc home theater system? This innovative setup will come in a chic design that will definitely complement your flat panel TV regardless of the brand (Panasonic folks will claim it works best with Panasonic VIERAs, of course), while you let your Blu-ray player keep you entertained.

Despite coming in a sleek and compact form factor, the SC-BTX70 is no slouch in terms of performance. It might be a 2.1 system, and yet Panasonic has thrown in enough technology to make sure this delivers realistic virtual 7.1 channel sound through a wide listening area. This is made possible thanks to Panasonic’s advanced proprietary surround technology that is able to pump out Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD virtual 7.1-channel surround sound. A couple of front speakers that feature a new top mounted speaker design that further expands the listening area, were specially built using rigid, low-density bamboo cones in order to achieve pure sound and crisp dialogue no matter what movie you’re viewing. The Kelton-type subwoofer will ensure robust, reverberating bass for heart-thumping moments, while the 96-kHz Surround Re-master function makes sure your CDs sound pristine.

Within its ultra slim main unit, the power sliding door will open to reveal a Blu-ray Disc player for all your high definition movie needs. No idea on whether this one will work with VUDU services in the future, but we won’t rule it out just yet. Other functions include a Universal Dock for iPod, an SD memory card slot, and a USB terminal. Expect the Panasonic SC-BTX70 2.1 channel Blu-ray Disc home theater system to be out sometime this month for a shade under a grand.

Samsung knows that Blu-ray players are slowly but surely making inroads into living room of people all over the world, and has recently made available updates for their line of BD-P1600, BD-P3600 or BD-P4600 Blu-ray players to support YouTube for free. As long as your Samsung Blu-ray player falls under any of the three models mentioned and is connected to the Internet, you can now access YouTube and its entire collection of videos for free by simply pressing a single button on the remote control straight from the main screen. Apart from viewing the highest rated or most popular videos in a jiffy, you can also perform a search through an onscreen keypad. Guess the Blu-ray player is getting more functional than before despite relatively low adoption rates to date.

For those who have been attending CES regularly over the past few years, you would’ve seen Toshiba advertise their HD DVD format through banners and bags, but we could be looking at Blu-ray ads from Toshiba from next year onwards as the company ditches the HD DVD format by coming up with the BDX2000 Blu-ray player. This new player can even hook up to a REGZA LCD TV through HDMI, displaying full high definition content using a solitary remote control thanks to the REGZA-LINK function. Other features of the BDX2000 include :-

BD-Live (Profile 2.0)

1080p/ 24 fps Full HD Video Output

AVCHD Playback

Toshiba REGZA-LINK (HDMI-CEC)

Support for enhanced audio formats from Dolby True HD and DTS-HD Master Audio

Bonus View

SD Card Slot

ENERGY STAR Certified

Expect the Toshiba BDX2000 to arrive at all good electronic stores near you this November for $249.99. At that price point, would you rather fork out another $50 and settle for a PS3 Slim instead?

Mitsubishi is back with a new range of flat panel TVs for its Diamond Unisen line, where these models will ship with built-in VUDU support in full High Definition glory. The integration of VUDU ensures consumers will be able to experience the seamless delivery of thousands of high-definition movies and TV shows on-demand, although we’re pretty sure this still won’t stop people from flipping channels whenever they’re bored. At least you don’t have to time your TV schedule to a station’s programming, since you will definitely be free whenever you pick up the show that you think would tickle your fancy.

Consumers ought to sit back and relax with VUDU HD movie content that is streamed directly, offering an unparalleled sensory experience courtesy of Unisen’s superior 1080p picture performance alongside integrated Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound. It is interesting to note that the Diamond Unisen models (LT-46249 and LT-52249) will be equipped with an Ethernet port as well, enabling a direct connection to the Internet. For those who truly exhort the wireless lifestyle and want to walk their talk, there is always an optional VUDU wireless accessory bridge that you can purchase for use, enabling consumers to link their Diamond Unisen model to their wireless home network without worrying about pulling another wire or tripping over one.

Consumers will be pleased to know that there are more than 2,200 HD titles available from VUDU, with a total title count of 16,000 on the whole, making it one of the most extensive HD movie libraries available in the market as at press time. Apart from that, the VUDU service on Diamond Unisen Immersive Sound TVs will also bring Internet services that most people cannot do without these days, including (and not limited to) YouTube, Flickr, Picasa and Pandora, accompanied by an “On Demand TV” area that boasts over 80 channels for you to go nuts over. with more than 80 channels to choose from. The 46″ LT-46249 Diamond Unisen will retail for $2,599, while the 52″ LT-52249 model is going for a slightly more expensive $3,099.

The TOOB allows a user one of those domed theater experiences, but in your household.

It is powered by a projector from a home theater, and allows the user to plug anything into it, such as a video games system or DVD player. I am guessing that the user lays down in front of it and feels an immersed experience.

I’m guessing that this experience is limited to the amount of people lying down in front of it. I don’t really know if these photos do it justice for what it can really do. I mean, just imagine being right in front of that alligator.

So who needs 3D on our TVs, right? This sort of reminds me of the time I was watching the first Lord of the Rings in the theater, and the curved screen sort of made the experience more grand. I had to shift my focus to see objects in the distance, and it sort of felt like I was in Middle Earth itself.

Well, if you want this 3 foot by 6 foot TOOB, it will cost you. It costs about $1,440, and there is an 8 foot by 16 foot inflatable version. That might be good for movie parties in a public park, or something.

Both the BD7004 and BD5004 Blu-ray players are readily available in the US and Canada, enabling users to playback their 1080p DivX HD videos in a jiffy. DivX format videos boast the advantage of offering a superior media experience without taking up an insane amount of hard drive space, where a full length high definition movie is able to fit onto a standard DVD instead of the usual Blu-ray disc. No idea on pricing of the BD7004 and BD5004 Blu-ray players, although if you’re willing to invest good money in them, they ought to offer a decent playback experience especially if you’re an avid Torrent downloader – just keep a close eye on your door for RIAA officials to bust into your pad and arresting you for illegal downloading activities. Don’t say you have not been warned!

Samsung has recently unveiled their latest LCD HDTV to the world, and in the flagship model, no less. The all new 8500 Series of HDTVs will bring together superb picture quality without sacrificing style, where the thinness of Samsung’s older LED HDTVs alongside all the latest networking and interactive features are still retained in order to keep TV connoisseurs happy. Samsung has also thrown in the Medi@2.0 suite for a higher level of immersion when it comes to viewing movies and shows on the 8500 Series. More on this line right after the jump, especially if you’re looking to upgrade your current flat screen TV.

Samsung managed to turn a corner with innovative use of white LEDs as a backlight source, enabling the 8500 Series to be able to achieve a stunning 7,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio for extreme detail and image depth. The inclusion of its Wide Color Enhancer Pro makes sure that colors remain consistently vibrant, while Samsung’s Ultra Clear Panel strives to offer improved image clarity and brightness regardless of a room’s ambient lighting. All of that does not mean that Samsung has forgotten about Mother Nature, and the 8500 Series is compliant with the latest Energy Star v3.0 ratings, while boasting an optimized energy savings mode which adjusts the backlight and picture quality, without having to sacrifice the overall viewing experience. Not only that, its “Natural” mode optimizes picture settings to model the brightness advantage of LCD displays and the cinema-like richness of plasma displays with any content.

The 8500 Series will carry an ultra-quick 2ms panel response time, coupled with Samsung’s up-to-date version of its Auto Motion Plus frame interpolation technology which brings true 240Hz refresh rate to the living room, helping improve playback of fast-paced content by a significant amount. Users are able to adjust levels of judder and motion blur reduction by going beyond the three standard Auto Motion Plus presets for superior picture control. As for Samsung’s Medi@2.0 suite, this enables users to access content from an expanded range of sources including Internet@TV – Content Service, web-based content from Yahoo! (Flickr, Video, News, Weather, and Finance), USA Today (Sports), Twitter, YouTube, and others. You can pick up the 8500 Series from 46″ and 55″ models for $3,599.99 and $4,499.99, respectively.

LG is an old hand when it comes to flat screen TVs with High Definition capability, and it is nice to see them introduce yet another improvement to their new line up of HDTVs in order to go one up against other competing brands. This time round, the Korean consumer electronics giant has rolled out broadband-capable HDTVs that are able to access the instant high-definition (HD) movie service from VUDU Inc. The HDTVs that fall under this purview will include LG’s LH50 1080p LCD series and PS80 Plasma 1080p series, where they will be come with “NetCast Entertainment Access” from next month onwards. This unique partnership between both companies will see consumer obtain access to thousands of HD movies at the touch of a button without having to go through the usual motion of flipping through a catalog at a video store as of yore.

The VUDU service enables consumers to instantly buy or rent from an extensive library of movies and TV titles. This industry-leading catalog will comprise of over 2,000 high-definition movies, and best of all is, you don’t have to worry about forking out any more monthly fees. In addition, there is no need to purchase, install, or connect any additional hardware for you to get started. Consumers can easily enjoy movies in VUDU’s unique HDX format, with Full HD 1080p resolution, plus Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 surround sound to tickle their visual audio senses.

VUDU’s streaming movie service is pretty reliable as well, delivering a near-instant viewing experience as movies begin almost immediately after selection, even those that come in high definition resolution. Not only that, you can fast forward, rewind and browse chapters without having to worry about slow buffering, just in case you want to watch only the best parts of your favorite movie. Movie buffs will be pleased to note that the VUDU catalog is updated weekly, while newly released movies from major studios are typically available months before they make their way to subscription-based services. LG’s 47″ LCD HDTV (model 47LH50) and 50″ plasma HDTV (model 50PS80) with NetCast Entertainment Access will retail for $1,699 and $1,799, respectively.

Beethoven might have his 9th Symphony, but Olive has come up with Opus No. 4 for the masses instead. Just in case you haven’t quite heard of Olive, their latest masterpiece, the Opus No. 4, was specially made to deliver a new standard in high quality digital music experiences, offering an unprecedented 2TB capacity in the flagship model from their stable. For those who want something different instead of relying on the usual stuff from other manufacturers such as Sony, Toshiba and Panasonic, the Olive Opus No. 4 enables consumers to experience their music in true hi-fi audio quality, boasting similar in sound clarity as your CDs sans the hassle and clutter. The 2TB of storage space enables one to store thousands of CDs worth of music in original quality, and can be hooked up to traditional stereo systems while enabling playback through an intuitive touchscreen menu.

Some of the features of the Opus No. 4 include :-

Music is stored using lossless compression (FLAC) for the best possible reproduction of the original recording, including every tone in the artists voices and individual instruments in vivid clarity

Sound quality is further enhanced by a high resolution digital-to-analog converter (DAC), optimized circuit design and precision power supply

Holds almost 6000 CDs so even the largest music collection is all instantly accessible

Navigation is fast and intuitive through a color-coded touchscreen menu or familiar CD player buttons

Digitizing music in high fidelity is incredibly easy – either insert CDs into the built-in CD drive and the music is imported and automatically categorized…or allow Olive to do the work for you with its CD digitizing service

Playback can be expanded throughout the home using the Melody Hi-Fi Multi-Room Player, which connects to the Opus through a wireless or wired network and allows music to be played in up to 10 rooms simultaneously

Thoughtful design, craftsmanship and high-quality materials – fine grade aluminum exterior etched with distinctive musical genre pattern is stylish, functional (cooling without a noisy fan) and recyclable

Maestro browser-based software makes music management easy to do – drag & drop playlist creation, metadata personalization and album artwork customization

Thousands of pre-set internet radio stations are available and adding other personal favorites is easy

Metadata library is extensive and regularly bolstered by proprietary additions, e.g. only Olive includes such detailed genre-specific information for Classical as Composer, Work, Orchestra, Conductor, Instrument/Voice, Choir, Soloist and for Jazz as Artist, Album, Sidemen, Release Date, Music Label, Instrument/Voice, Original Recording Date

Opus is not a computer peripheral, so it frees the music experience from PCs or network storage devices and related security/virus concerns

Set-up is simple, no home installers are required

Depending on your budget, the Opus No. 4 will come in 2TB, 1TB and 500GB capacities that retail for $1,599, $1,599 and $1,799, respectively, when August rolls around.

LG aims to redefine the LED LCD HDTV landscape, as their new range are the first LCDs to receive THX Display Certification in the US market. Known as the new LH90 series, they can be easily found throughout the hallowed halls of national retailers including Best Buy and other leading electronics dealers, where proud new owners will be able to wear a smug look due to the advanced picture quality, smart energy savings and stylish design found in each LH90 HDTV.

Originally making their preview at CES 2009 earlier this year, the new LH90 series of LCD HDTVs will boast a full-array of LED backlighting with a whopping 2,000,000:1 Mega Contrast for unsurpassed picture quality and color detail. Mind blowing figures, eh, putting all current LCD HDTVs to shame as contrast ratios are now counted in the millions. Not only that, the LH90 will feature local dimming technology for precise automatic picture control, resulting in deeper blacks and wider color gamut. The inclusion of TruMotion 240Hz technology makes sure you enjoy smooth motion even during fast-action sports and movie scenes – perfect for those who love watching their action movies over and over again. An integrated THX Movie Mode on the LH90 makes room for a one-button solution for experiencing studio color, black levels and clean signal processing.

If you’re interested in picking one up for your home, the new LG LH90 will come in 55″, 47″ and 42″ class sizes, retailing for $3,199.95, $2,399.95 and $1,899.95 respectively. Image courtesy of EngadgetHD.
