360 Degree Speaker concept

by Edwin

quasar.jpg

Check out this neat looking device that consists of a dozen speakers that allow for non-directional 360 degree sound field, allowing you to basically position this set of speakers anywhere in the room without any loss in audio quality. The only problem would be those tunes that sound best in a surround sound environment, something this concept cannot do. Still, the design oozes with style as the speakers along are made out of translucent material, making them look invisible from certain angles. This concept was designed by Emanuele Patton & Michele Menescardi.

Lightbulb hanger brightens up wardrobe

by Edwin

clothes-hanger-lamp.jpg

Would you fork out $249 for a simple hanger? The answer would most probably be no, but what if it is a special hanger that comes with a fluorescent light? I still won’t, but for those who have too much money to burn and want something unique in their wardrobe could always pick this up. The price is way too expensive for something like this, as someone with ample DIY knowledge could probably cobble up a lightbulb attached to a hanger as well. According to the product page, “Hang the garment of your choice on the hanger and you’ve got an instant light installation”. Does this mean the light will come on only when you hang something on it? Just make sure no wet raincoats are placed on this hanger though.

Say What? now available

by Edwin

saywhat.jpg
Say What? will probably confound you at first, but after a few attempts at it, you will probably be asking for more. And sometimes, be careful for what you ask for – in this case, it is a good thing your request is answered in the form of hysterical gaming moments with friends and family.

The game contains 5 different coloured balls which each rest in a dock on the main game base. A famous pop culture phrase is randomly selected by the game and cut into 5 segments, one segment per ball (usually dividing 1 or 2 syllables per ball). The balls then light up one by one as their section of the phrase is spoken – with the entire phrase initially appearing completely out of order.

The bemused player must unravel the phrase, and re-arrange the balls accordingly to put the spoken segments in the correct order within the allotted time.

With 3 adjustable skill levels and 4 game modes to choose from, you definitely would have a fun time with your mates. Just think of Say What? as ‘Bop It’ meets ‘Countdown’ to get a better idea of what this £24.95 game is all about.

PS3 to be able to record digital TV

by Edwin

psp-records-to-tv.jpgLooks like the fight for living room entertainment is heating up between Microsoft and Sony, with the latter announcing that PS3 users in Europe will be able to perform both recording and playback of digital TV on their console – where does that leave gamers? I personally think that over-extending the PS3′s capabilities and functions does not bode too well for the high powered console as it might end up as a Jack of all trades, but I might be wrong. Of course, this news is accompanied by the unveiling of a spanking new TV tuner that plugs directly into the PS3, turning it (via some magical pixie dust) into an instant personal video recorder just like Sky+. This announcement was made at the Leipzig Games Show in Germany, and it was one that continued to push the mantra of key multimedia capabilities found on the Cell-powered PS3.

Asthma patients get welcome relief

by Edwin

spacer-asthma.jpgAsthma patients can be a pretty fragile bunch, and in poorer countries, these people rarely have the opportunity nor purchasing power to pick up a “spacer” that actually creates an air chamber right in front of the mouth, whereby the inhaler will discharge its medicine for the patient to breathe it in easily. These devices could cost around $50 which is definitely out of reach for the destitute, but thankfully brilliant folks from Stanford University’s Design School along with the School of Medicine managed to come up with their own homebrew solution – using the origami concept to build your very own spacer out of paper. The price to pay? Less than a measly quarter.
