Wireless Mail Alert

July 22nd, 2006 by Al in Home Automation, Home Gadgets

Mail AlertWe don’t really have mailboxes in the UK (letterboxes work absolutely fine and paperboys need the extra exercise anyway) however if we did I’d want one of these, the Wireless Mail Alert. Read the rest of this entry »

Silent Light Phone Sensor

July 21st, 2006 by Liam in Home Gadgets

Silent Light Phone Sensor
This would be a very handy gadget to have if you have a baby or otherwise want to keep a quiet house. The Silent Light Phone Sensor replaces your phone’s ringer with a soft yet easily noticeable blue LED light.

It’s very simple to install this gadget, it is simply hooked into your phone so you can be seeing your calls rather than hearing them in no time. When you receive a call it will light up with enough light for you to notice but not enough to be annoying. All four sides of the light are illuminated as well so you don’t need to worry about being on the wrong side of the room.

It’s also very easy to fit into wherever you need it as it is only 4″ tall. Included with the light is a 7 1/2 ft. phone cord so you could put it in the most visible location.

I think this gadget could save a lot of stress caused by crying children who were woken up from their naps.

This helpful gadget is available for $19.95 from One Step Ahead. If you want complete quite, you can also get the similar gadget that blocks door bell sounds and replaces them with light available here.

Shakeable Flashlight

July 20th, 2006 by Liam in Home Gadgets

Waterproof Shaking Flashlight
This would be a great gadget to have whether you’re out camping, or you’re home and the power’s gone out. The Waterproof Shaking Flashlight requires no batteries and is powered solely by your shaking motion.

Your shaking motion is converted into electricity which is stored in a large capacitor and is used to light a powerful LED bulb. You even get to see how the mechanism works as it is covered in a clear plastic shell.

Toilet Nanny - Make Blokes Aim

July 20th, 2006 by Al in Home Gadgets, Wacky Gadgets

Toilet NannyI don’t think there’s any need for this, but if you live with a bloke who is a bit of a sprinkler get your self a toilet nanny:

This is toilet training for men. You place the unit under the toilet seat. When a man lifts the seat the Toilet Nanny says “Excuse me sir!. Please try to urinate IN the toilet - NOT on the floor, and put the seat down when you are finished!”.

Giant Caller ID

July 19th, 2006 by Liam in Home Gadgets

Giant Caller ID
It can be very annoying if you’re in the middle of something and suddenly the phone rings. You walk all the way over to the phone just to see it’s some irritating telemarketer trying to waste your time. Now you don’t have to worry about that, as the Caller ID Giant Display displays calls on a large screen with large text!

The Giant Caller ID tells you the name, phone number and date of call. It also has a flashing new call indicator. There are 3 lines with large text so you can read the LCD display from several feet away without having to walk over. There’s even a repeat call indicator so you can tell you’re being called by the same person even if you forget the name or number.

The Tomato Maker

July 19th, 2006 by Liam in Garden Gadgets, Home Gadgets

The Tomato Maker
If you like growing your own, fresh tomatoes, but are too lazy to care for them or you just can’t grow them outside, you’d probably love a Tomato Maker kit. The Tomato-Maker™ allows you to grow tomatoes anywhere and is grown in a convenient bag. It also requires no dirt!

The seeds grow in Magic Millennium Soil, a safe soil substitute that allows your tomato plants to get all the nutrients they need. They also grow faster than regular tomatoes growing outdoors. It’s also very easy to maintain, requiring that you only water it once until it blooms.

Home Control Assistant

July 17th, 2006 by Liam in Home Automation, Home Gadgets

Home Control Assistant
This helpful bit of software isn’t exactly a gadget, but more of a gadget controller. The Home Control Assistant gives you the ability to control many devices in your home such as lighting and appliances through one easy to use application.

Very simply, the software communicates with items in your house that are plugged into receivers that are compatible with the software. The receivers are then plugged into a normal wall plug. The software requires your computer to be integrated with your home’s wiring, and thus can control any item that is attached to a receiver.
