Motorola is currently working on accelerating the delivery of personalized media experiences by rolling out a flexible multimedia set top platform that allows users to transfer content from and to a cell phone, enjoy multimedia content be it at home or on the road without the need for the traditional middleman - the PC. This new set top platform also makes way for users to create and store personalized music and video libraries. Japan being at the forefront of consumer electronics for most parts will be the first country to receive Motorola’s new multimedia platform, with KDDI leading the way with their “au BOX” service.

September 25th, 2008 by Edwin in Audio/Video Gadgets, Home Gadgets, Home Theater
ViewSonic isn’t exactly a brand name that is associated with high end AV equipment, but then again they have been in business for quite some time already for a very good reason - offering enough bang for your buck. The latest LCD TV from ViewSonic would be the N2201w, and this 22″ looker offers more than just high definition images in your living room - it also packs in two other functions for added value for money. Retailing for under the $500 price point, the N2201w also features an integrated DVD player (if only they threw in a Blu-ray drive instead) that is located on the side of the TV as well as PC capabilities.
Coox Concept brings the kitchen to the Internet Generation
September 24th, 2008 by Mark R in Conceptual Gadgets, Home Gadgets, Kitchen Gadgets
Have you ever eaten out at one of those restaurants where they cook and chop the food right in front of you? I always thought that it was a little dangerous, because that hot grill is out in the open, where someone could burn their hand or some other body part. Couldn’t they just wheel the hot grill out, and wheel it back when finished?
Perhaps this is just one of the reasons why the Coox was invented. I suppose that the best description of the Coox is an electric mobile range cooker on wheels with adjustable legs. Okay, maybe that isn’t the least wordy description, but it certainly is the most practical.
I can think of several practical uses for the Coox. For example, if you like to have a hot meal while you are sitting and watching television, the Coox can plug in and be at the height of your waist for boiling your Top Raman or frying up some stir-fry. All of this can be done without having to go in and out of the kitchen to check on your cooking, because it is all right in front of you.
Tantrum Throwing Alarm Clock gives you a reason to get up in the morning
September 22nd, 2008 by Mark R in Electronic Gadgets, Home Gadgets, Miscellaneous Gadgets
Sometimes it is difficult to get up in the morning, and if it wasn’t for my infant son, who cries in the morning at 7:00 A.M, I probably would never get out of bed. It appears that Hammer Schlemmer has found a way to create the technological equivalent of a screaming baby in the morning in the form of an alarm clock.
The Tantrum Throwing Alarm Clock will do exactly what its name entails. All you need to do is set it, and it will begin to tap its arms lightly when it goes off. Apparently, it will be sedated when you pat it on the head, which is the closest thing to a snooze button.
If you give it too many snoozes, the alarm will go into a full tantrum where it will flip open its maw like Mr. Mouth, a classic toy from the seventies. Anger isn’t the only emotion that it feels because if you pet the clock, it will apparently smile and even tap its wrists in appreciation.
Kodak offers new All-in-One Printers

Eastman Kodak is back this time round, offering two new all-in-one printers for the masses - the ESP 7 and ESP 9. Both models will include the latest in print technology in addition to affordable, premium-quality inks that help create aesthetically pleasing as well as powerful printers, allowing users to print up to double the photos and documents with the same amount of dough splashed out on ink, helping the average consumer save up to $110 annually compared to its competitors in the consumer inkjet printers market.
Magic Mirror Security System
September 19th, 2008 by Mark R in Home Gadgets
The Magic Mirror is essentially hiring the floating face character from Snow White and, instead of it telling you who the fairest one of all is, it monitors your home. I will admit that the Magic Mirror is a useful security system, but I don’t really appreciate its theme. I suppose if my home really was my castle, then this would go with it perfectly.
The M30P Magic Mirror system has an interface that is designed to look like a mirror, but it is only to hide the 30 inch LCD display. It has a program with a CG character named Basil of the Mirror.
Basil is designed to say about one hundred things about the problems around your home. Samples include “may I inform you that the motor car garage door has just been opened” or “pardon me, but isn’t it time to leave for practice”.
Cooktop concept could help College crowd
September 19th, 2008 by James in Conceptual Gadgets, Home Gadgets, Kitchen GadgetsDesigner Matthias Pinkert has created a very interesting electrical stove concept which promises to help college students and those just starting out on their own in studio apartments. Called the Electrolux Cook Top Vesta concept, the idea is a kind of Murphy Bed for stovetops. The cooking surface, containing 4 stylish electrical burners, can be flipped up for food prep and provide increased valuable kitchen space in cramped spaces. Heck, you don’t even need a kitchen. Any table area can be turned into a stove top with this idea.
Mini Dynamo Massager Torch
September 18th, 2008 by Edwin in Eco Gadgets, Home Gadgets
I’ve seen plenty of dynamo torches to date, and they all come in various form factors and designs that will certainly make an indecisive person mull over their purchase decision for a long, long time. Some of them even come with a button that allows you to choose between brightness modes as well as introduce a blinking beacon that can be used during times of distress. With the Mini Dynamo Massager Torch, things are different since it also includes a massage head embedded into the torch itself - perfect to massage those aching muscles after spending the better part of your time cranking the dynamo. You can pick up the Mini Dynamo Massager Torch for $25.
