Ab Solo: Excercise and arcade basketball unite

October 3rd, 2008 by Mark R in Home Gadgets

Of course, one of the things that keeps most people from working out is that exercise is tedious, and it is simply not fun. I have to admire Ab Solo’s new way of making exercise as enjoyable as a trip to the video arcade.

The technique is a stroke of genius. Ab Solo takes one of those basketball tossing games that you can find at modern-day arcades and makes it into part of the exercise routine. Not only is the user getting a simple arm workout on their arms, but they are also practicing their basketball shooting skills. It even comes with a counter so the user can see his or her progress.

Of course, the user does not have the option of just sitting back and shooting hoops. He or she has to perform a pull-up in order to score. I’m sure that an exercise program on the Ab Solo is harder than it looks, but it sure looks more enjoyable than pointless pull-ups.

The Newspaper Log Roller lets you heat with newspaper

October 3rd, 2008 by Ally in Home Gadgets

A long while ago there was the brick maker that turned your stacks of newspaper into little bricks to make starting a fire much easier.  It was condensed newspaper so it didn’t just burn all up immediately, it burned a little slower but was still easy to light.  Well now there is this device which rolls the newspapers for you and I have to admit I’m a little torn.  These are more meant to be used as logs, which is nice because that means no more trees need to be cut down.  It would be especially great for anyone who saved a lot of newspapers and didn’t really burn a fire that much.

WaterMill makes water from air

October 1st, 2008 by Edwin in Eco Gadgets, Electronic Gadgets, Home Gadgets

The WaterMill might look pretty snazzy and high tech at first glance, but it is actually a souped-up dehumidifier that pulls moisture (read: water) from the air and purifying it into drinking quality skyjuice.

Inside air is up to 70 times more polluted than outside air. The WaterMill is installed unobtrusively on the outside of your home, using outside air, so it won’t dry out the air you breathe in your home. And don’t worry if your outdoor air is less than pristine - even if you live in a crowded city, the Watermill’s filtration system ensures your drinking water will be clean and free of toxins and bacteria - more pure than tap water or even spring water.

The company behind the WaterMill claims that it is able to offer up to 12 liters of water per day, which ought to be more than enough for your drinking and cooking needs.

The Electro Puff Lamp Dimmer

September 30th, 2008 by Ally in Home Gadgets

I have to say, sometimes people scare me, or in this case specifically some parents scare me.  I keep waiting to listen to the news to hear about a child sent to school in a giant roll of bubble wrap.  There are just some parents that see danger lurking around every corner even with the smallest of things.  One thing I never ever even considered dangerous was a dimmer switch.  I mean seriously, who finds a dimmer switch dangerous?!   At first I prayed that the Electro Puff Lamp Dimmer was just a bizarre concept design, but no such luck.

Rainbow Star LED Lamps offer colorful lighting

September 28th, 2008 by Ally in Home Gadgets

If you like soft, slightly more subtle lighting you might like these Rainbow Star LED Lamps.  They are small and when the lights go out these lights will automatically kick on.  Which would make them perfect for kids to keep around as a night light.  The light can shine in any of its seven different colors.  It can either glow in one color or cycle gradually through a bunch of different colors.  Although I imagine if used in a child’s room, just one color might prove less distracting.

Never shovel snow again with Heated Traction Mats

September 26th, 2008 by Ally in Garden Gadgets, Home Gadgets

It’s not quite time for winter gadgets just yet, but this particular gadget might take a little saving up to get, so it’s probably best if you come across it now. The traction mat is made to sit outside all winter long and whenever it begins to snow you flip it on. It then heats up and will melt snow off of your walkway. Which means no more back breaking shoveling of snow. For some this is just another tool to be lazy with, but for those with back problems or the elderly this gadget would be extremely helpful.

Well it’s finally Friday, so you might as well start planning how you want to spend your evening. Be it alone in peace or having a bunch of friends over this Tahiti Maragaritaville Frozen Drink Machine could come in handy to help you unwind.
