Pumpkin Carving Kit

September 30th, 2005 by Al in Home Gadgets, Kitchen Gadgets

Pumpkin Carving Kit
This may not be anything new to our friends across the pond but in the UK when it comes to pumpkin carving we normally just use a marker pen and the sharpest knife we’re allowed to use from the kitchen. This means that the majority of our carved pumpkins are pretty amateurish compared to those you see on the teen horror movies.

However thanks to the Pumpkin Carving Kit things may be about to change.

Diablo Sandwich Toaster

September 20th, 2005 by Anita in Kitchen Gadgets

toaster

Who doesn’t enjoy a nice toaster sandwich? But, usually you have to get out the skillet, heat the pan, and then cook the sandwich. Wouldn’t it be nice to find a sandwich maker that will make it all very simple, and not be one of those big and bulky types?

Well with the Diablo Sandwich Toaster you will be able to enjoy all kinds of toaster sandwiches in just minutes without the hassle and the mess. It is made with titanium coating and has a deep reservoir. You can toast over electric, gas, ceramic hobs or even over a campfire. It has a stylish design, is also dishwasher safe, and is so compact you can put it away in a kitchen drawer.

Connected Kitchen

September 13th, 2005 by Marc in Kitchen Gadgets

IceBox flipscreen
Some very cool, if ultimately doomed to failure stuff here from Salton inc. First, the Icebox. This one I do rather like. It’s a TV/DVD player/net browser/video monitor/radio for the kitchen with an integrated touchscreen. There is a choice of form factors – the iMac clone looks cute but I’m particularly fond of the foldaway under the counter “fliptop” model. They also include a washable keyboard and mouse – it’s always nice to see attention to detail.

Soehnle Diet Computer

September 6th, 2005 by Marc in Kitchen Gadgets

Soehnle Diet Computer
I don’t know what fascinates me more – the scales themselves or the fact that there is a website devoted to selling weighing implements!

These are not your normal kitchen scales – tap in the 3 digit code of the food you’re about to weigh and it will give you the nutritional information for it.

Fat, Protein, Carbohydrate, Kilocalories, Kilojoules and Cholesterol are calculated, displayed and totalled up so by the time you’ve mixed the ingredients for the cake you should be guilted into not eating any of it :-)

OK, so you have to lookup the code for each food group but I guess if you use it regularly enough you’d get to know them.

You can pick it up in the UK from the aptly named Scales Express

Foodsaver vacuum pack machine

September 5th, 2005 by Marc in Kitchen Gadgets

Foodsaver
Unfortunately the Foodsaver is a genuine “as seen on TV” range of products which generally doesn’t bode well for a quality item, at least over here in the UK (cue vision of Chuck Norris extolling the virtues of an ab-workout machine…) Having said that though this does look quite cool.

Why vaccum pack your food? For one, it lasts longer in the freezer. The second and possibly less obvious reason is that when you dig out a vacuum packed item from the bottom of the freezer it tends to be recognisable. If you’ve ever stared helplessy at 3 month old freezer bag that’s covered in frosty condensation and played the “guess the contents” game then you’ll know what I mean.

The foodsavers are small (counter top sized) devices, come in a range of budgets from just under $100 to about $300 and use their own special bag which I guess is how they get you in the long run.

You can get them from Amazon and no doubt other online stores.
