Deluxe Chocolatiere

September 11th, 2006 by Mike in Kitchen Gadgets

delux-chocolate-maker.jpg
Mmm, chocolate, terrible for you health wise, but delicious nonetheless. You could always melt some chocolate for yourself in the microwave or on the stove, but most of the time it ends up half cooked or burnt, and cleaning it up is a painful process.

Meet the Deluxe Chocolatiere, a compact chocolate melter. You won’t have to worry when to turn the stove off, or for how long to set the microwave, this thing eliminates all the guesswork. Just put your chocolate in and wait.

Groovy Mug

September 10th, 2006 by Al in Drinking Gadgets, Kitchen Gadgets

TROFE mugIf you’ve got a dishwaher you’ll know how irratating it can be to take the mugs out of the top shelf and splash water on all the clean plates below (or is this just me). Ikea has come up with a really simple solution to the problem, a mug with a notch in the base, the TROFE mug.

The notch gives water an escape route from the bottom of the mug. As ideas go you probably can’t get much simpler, so I wonder why it’s taken so long for somebody to come up with it. Well done Ikea.

The TROFE mug is available from IKEA, found via Gadget Venue and Oh Gizmo.

Cutting Scale ensures perfect amount of ingredients

September 7th, 2006 by Edwin in Home Gadgets, Kitchen Gadgets

cutting-scale.jpg We all know how specific ingredients can be when it comes to recipe books – a quarter tablespoon of salt, seven pinches of sugar, a teaspoon of olive oil. Only experienced hands in the kitchen are good enough to go about cooking by the Force feeling, and these people won’t need any technologically advanced aids to know how much more salt is needed in the chicken paprika that you are making. Unfortunately, there are more average cooks than good ones available, which is why this concept Cutting Board ought to make the perfect wedding gift for couples who are starting out a brand new life together. That, or either your kid who is off to college and living on his/her own.

No burn stove

September 6th, 2006 by Mike in Kitchen Gadgets

Electrolux Infinite Cooking System
Imagine a stove that won’t burn you when you brush up against it, or touch it out of pure curiosity or when you’ve been dared to. (I know everyone has done it) Thanks to Science, this isn’t years into the future, just a couple of months.

The Electrolux Infinite Cooking System uses something we’ve all heard of in Science class, but don’t exactly remember what it is: induction. Instead of the stove being hot, the pot is.

Heart MugThis was nearly too romantic soppy for me to post but I guess we have to keep our lady readers happy :) , the Sweetheart Teacup.

Simply fill the cup with your favourite beverage (probably not suited to beer mind), and it will form a lovely heart shape, ahhh.

Available in a set of 2 (obviously) from Keith + Lottie [found via Gadget Candy, soppy thanks:)]

Beyond Microwave Oven – The Perfect Cook

August 26th, 2006 by Edwin in Home Automation, Kitchen Gadgets

Beyond Microwave
Most of us definitely aren’t gourmet chefs judging by the type of dinners we take every day. Most of the time we mindlessly pop in a frozen TV dinner into the microwave, close the door, set the estimated cooking time, and wait. If it doesn’t quite turn out right in the beginning, we either increase the power and time via experience before a piping hot meal is ready for our consumption. Of course, there are always people on the far end of the spectrum who might not even comprehend the ease of using a microwave oven.

Hands Free Can Opener

August 25th, 2006 by Mike in Kitchen Gadgets

hands-free-can-opener.jpg
From personal experience, I know that using a traditional can opener to open a can takes way to long, and those under the cabinet ones look ugly and are tricky to use sometimes. It’s also a task for someone who is a bit older; they just don’t have the strength in them to do it.

This gadget is supposedly a hands free can opener. All you have to do is secure the opener on the can, hold a button for a second, and then the opener will travel around the can giving a clean cut. That means no sharp edges when it comes off, and the lid will come right off, there’s no pulling it and having half the contents come out on you. (Tomato soup does not come out of clothes very well, especially white ones) It can also handle larger cans, but for some odd reason, that requires pressing the button twice.
