ReadywhenUR - SMS Kettle

June 26th, 2006 by Al in Garden Gadgets, Kitchen Gadgets
I do enjoy a good BBQ (even on my DIY barbecue) but my favourite source of vegetables is pizza (hmmmm pizza). Barbecues and pizza don’t normally mix that well which is why I was impressed to see this Grill-Top Pizza Stone.
The Grill-Top Pizza Stone is designed for gas grills but I don’t see why it wouldn’t work on a conventional charcoal BBQ (gas is cheating in my house). You rest the stone on top of the grill, stoke it up to the perfect pizza cooking temperature (as shown on the incorporated thermometer) and cook your meat feast.
Available from Williams Sonoma found on uncrate.
Automatic Wine Bottle Opener
June 22nd, 2006 by Al in Drinking Gadgets, Kitchen Gadgets
This is one phallic looking kitchen gadget, the new and improved Venus Rechargeable Automatic Wine Bottle Opener.
The Venus is capable of de-corking 40 bottles on a single charge. Simply rest it on the neck of the bottle, flick the switch and it will extract the cork, flick the switch in the opposite direction and it will spit it back out. This has got to be the laziest bottle opener ever (short of getting a waiter to do it).
Available from After5 for $49.99 [found via Crib Candy]
The Barbecue Belt
June 16th, 2006 by Al in Garden Gadgets, Kitchen Gadgets
If you thought the barbecue apron wasn’t quite manly enough another solution is at hand (or should that be waist), the barbecue belt.
The barbecue belt has enough containers and compartments for all those essential condiments (adjustable sauce anyone) and BBQ equipment. It would make a great fathers day gift, though probably a bit late now.
The barbecue belt is no longer available, as an alternative check out the barbecue apron.
Shocolate Vault Jar
June 15th, 2006 by Al in Kitchen Gadgets
There seems to be an abundance of pain around for geeks at the moment, we’ve had the geek fight club, shocking wrestling, shocking memory game and even a painful pass the parcel. The latest gadget is meant to help people control their cravings and if you hadn’t guessed yet, it does this via electric shock treatment.
The Shocolate Vault Jar is a goody jar with a twist. You load it with goodies, set the timer and if you try to get in before the time is up you get an electric shock, nice!
Fireplace in your Kitchen Cabinet
June 15th, 2006 by Al in Kitchen Gadgets
I’m not sure if I’m keen on these or not, a fireplace in a kitchen cabinet just seems a little odd. You’ll have a cabinet of cans, followed by a cabinet of plates and then a kitchen cabinet with err fire in.
I do like the idea of a small fireplace embedded in a bedroom wall for that extra romantic feel (and cold winter nights) but kitchen cabinets, no (though it could grow on me).
Available from Fireplac Extrordinair, found on Trendir.
TimeStrip meter to safely track food in the fridge
June 13th, 2006 by Paz in Home Gadgets, Kitchen Gadgets
I could have used one of these TimeStrip gadgets in my student days when I often kept things in containers in my fridge that I wasn’t sure were past their use-by date or not. These inexpensive time indicators take away all the guesswork, and your pet cat will thank you too.
The Egg Poaching Toaster
June 13th, 2006 by Al in Kitchen Gadgets
If you enjoy eggs and toast for breakfast then this has got to be the toaster of choice, the egg poaching toaster.
The egg poaching toaster will simultaneously tan your toast and cook your egg with a cooking time of 4 minutes. I never have time to cook breakfast in the morning so if I could load this up the night before and set it on a timer then I would eat at least one hot meal a day.
