The Daylight Solar Lamp

January 22nd, 2009 by Ally in Eco Gadgets, Garden Gadgets, Home Gadgets

If you’re into quirky lighting, you’ll love this solar light. The Daylight looks like a normal glowing light shaped like a lamp during the night. Yet when you want it to charge during the day you flip it over so that the solar panel is exposed. These brightly colored lamps would brighten up any home or patio. They’ll work for indoors or outdoors and you’ll never have to deal with changing light bulbs or batteries, plus there are of course no wires to worry about.

Spider Web Maker

January 6th, 2009 by Edwin in Garden Gadgets, Home Gadgets

It does make me wonder sometimes – housewives hate the sight of cobwebs all over the house, especially those left behind by daddy long legs, and here we are with a gizmo that supposedly helps spiders spin more webs. Ah well, at least this is placed outdoors where spiders have better luck catching some insects in the tangled web that they weave.

All you need to do is stick the Spider Web Maker in your garden, sit back, and wait for one of your arachnid chums to finish their architectural delight. Marvel at the visual spectacle that is the spider’s web from your very own garden.

Unfortunately for the spider, you might get bored of their “work” once they’re done, and wipe the slate clean to get a new piece. I’d be bummed too if I were that particular spider, seeing somebody figuratively flush my sweat and blood down the water. At least each £7.99 purchase comes with an information booklet written by Natural History Museum scientists, providing more information on spiders and their webs.

The Sprinkler Hide-A-Key

January 4th, 2009 by Ally in Garden Gadgets, Home Gadgets

Everyone knows about the cheesy rocks with hidden compartments and the trick of hiding the key underneath the welcome mat.  However, if you’re on the lookout for a solution that won’t be quite so obvious, those two tricks aren’t exactly ideal.  You might go for something a bit more subtle like this Sprinkler-Hide-A-Key.  It will blend in great with your garden as well as the rest of your sprinklers.  Just try not to forget which is the hide-a-key and which is just another sprinkler.

The Stainless Steel Solar Garden Light

December 26th, 2008 by Ally in Garden Gadgets, Home Gadgets

When I picture garden lighting the first thing that always comes to mind are the cheap plastic lights that stick into the ground. Probably because that’s what most people use. They do what they are intended to do and they look great at night. However, during the day they look cheap and not even slightly aesthetically appealing. These would be especially bad for anyone that prefers their garden to reflect their love for modern décor. Thankfully, one vendor has an attractive stainless steel alternative.

The Lighted Garden Nozzle for late night gardeners

December 26th, 2008 by Ally in Garden Gadgets, Home Gadgets

Most that enjoy gardening have likely heard that it’s better to water your plants late in the evening rather than during the day.  However, if you aren’t the best at gardening just yet or you’re just so busy that you tend to forget, often night can sneak up on you.  Which leaves you the choice of waiting till the next day to water your plants or attempt to wander out in the dark.  Well if it’s difficult to find your way around the yard at night, this contraption might come in handy.

Mosquito-Repelling Barbecue Light

December 23rd, 2008 by Edwin in Garden Gadgets

While you’re busy cooking a BBQ meal in your garden, why take the risk and be a meal for mosquitoes yourself? With the Mosquito-Repelling Barbecue Light, all those pesky blood-sucking insects won’t be able to come near to you as the device will create a 20 foot radius bite-free zone around you. It won’t use any chemicals to keep those bloodthirsty mosquitoes at bay, but will instead emit noises of an insect’s predator. No idea on just how effective this $39.98 gizmo is, but at least it offers light when dusk falls, bing clipped to the grill side or table. Heck, you can even leave it to stand alone if you want to. Best to purchase rechargeable batteries for this puppy since it consumes a quartet of D batteries to keep you bite-free.

Open Air Cinema rolls out new Open Air Home Screen

December 4th, 2008 by Edwin in Audio/Video Gadgets, Garden Gadgets, Home Gadgets

Open Air Cinema is a name that is familiar if you’re into outdoor cinema equipment, and it seems rather strange for them to announce their new 16ft x 9ft Open Air Home Screen considering we’re right smack in the middle of winter at the moment (for those living in the northern hemisphere at least). Seriously, I would much rather sit at home around a cozy fireplace toasting marshmallows with a piping cup of hot chocolate in one hand instead of freezing my derrière off in the chilly cold and “enjoying” a rented movie played via my projector. Come to think of it, this only works with a weatherproof projector of sorts, right? The Open Air Home Screen is no ordinary display though, as it is a behemoth inflatable movie screen. Good to know you won’t need to rely on lung power to engorged it, otherwise it might take much longer than viewing the entire movie itself. Perhaps Open Air Cinema released this in anticipation of folks who love being prepared 6 months ahead of the coming summer, or folks from Down Under would like to import one of these puppies.

Automower solar-powered robotic lawn mower

November 16th, 2008 by Edwin in Garden Gadgets, Home Gadgets, Solar Powered Gear

Take a drive around your neighborhood – do you think the lush, green lawns that you see are the result of leaving it neglected? No sir, keeping the garden neat and tidy with an even patch of green grass is hard work, and it gets even tougher when you throw in mowing into the equation. Good thing we have advances in technology such as the solar-powered Automower. It looks more like a miniature war vehicle or something out of a futuristic video game, but instead of blowing stuff up, it was specially designed to keep your pre-wired green lawn short and trim. Heck, you even have the choice to create ‘islands’ by laying the wire around plants and flower beds. Don’t worry about riling Greenpeace activists since this is 100% solar-powered, which equals to zero emissions. It also comes with safety features that prevents it from harming pets or kids, although I’m not too sure whether it will avoid snakes or not (if you’re into those kind of pets). The Automower will retail for around $3,100 and is able to trim a quarter of an acre with 10 hours of charging.
