Garden Gadgets

If you enjoy spending time outside in the garden you’ll enjoy it even more if it’s full of gadgets. This section of CG is dedicated to gadgets that wouldn’t look out of place in any technology loving geeks outdoor room.

BBQ Apron Set

June 1st, 2006 by Al in Garden Gadgets

BBQ ApronThis has got to be the perfect accompaniment to the beer holster we covered yesterday, the BBQ Apron Set.

I’d rather this had been a BBQ Utility Belt as aprons don’t look very manly but I’m sure a roaring BBQ will make up for that. The BBQ Apron Set holds all the implements you’ll need to do your outdoor cooking and charred sausage retrieval missions.

Available from Ministry of Gadget.

Inflatable Projector Screen
If you like watching your sport outdoors but prefer watching it on the screen rather than in a stadium then the giant inflatable screen could be just what you never realised you wanted.

Solar Powered Tile Lights

May 29th, 2006 by Al in Garden Gadgets, Solar Powered Gear, Home Gadgets

Solar powered tile lightPaving slabs and patios are generally pretty bland and boring (though they do provide an area for a computer case DIY BBQ). In order to literally brighten up a boring old patio you could go for these solar powered tile lights, they charge during the day and shine at night.

LawnMower + Transformer = Pac a Mow

May 28th, 2006 by Al in Garden Gadgets

Transformer MowerThe only lawn mower I’d expect to post on here would have to be of the robotic kind, well that changed after seeing the Flymo Pac a Mow. The Pac a Mow is the a result of what happens when you let your designers watch Transformers Robots in Disguise a little bit too much.

The Pac a Mow is actually a bit of a sensible idea, if you’ve ever tried to cram a lawn mower into an already full shed you’ll know where I’, coming from with this. Instead of having handles, boxes and cables sticking out all over the place the “Pac a Mow” transforms into an easily managed box shaped garden appliance when not in use.

This does seems a bit too boring and sensible sort of gadget to mention here but hey Transformers are cool. Normal useless but fun gadget reporting will resume after this short break :).

Funny Little Scary Owl

May 23rd, 2006 by Al in Garden Gadgets, Wacky Gadgets

Robotic OwlIf you have a pigeon or rodent problem in your garden then this wise old owl may be the answer.

Look Hoo’s Talking Owl has various authentic owl actions, like eye, head and wing movement and of cause the good old owl hooting. All of which is activated by the built in motion detector. I’m not sure if it’s meant to act as some sort of scare crow but what pesky robot wouldn’t be scared of this little beady eyed bit of plastic.

Available from Takara-USA, found first on Crib Candy.

Inflatable Football Pitch

May 21st, 2006 by Al in Garden Gadgets, Football Gadgets, Toys

Inflatable Football Pitch

Okay this may be for the kids but it’s football related, inflatable and looks kind of cool. The Inflatable Football Pitch is like a football jail for your kids. I can imagine it now:

  • Inflate pitch
  • Add kids
  • Add ball
  • Go inside and watch real football on TV

You can get the perfect pitch from Woolworths (not a store renown for gadgets or quality products to that matter).

Solar Powered 8m Airship for only Ten pounds

May 17th, 2006 by Al in Garden Gadgets, Solar Powered Gear, Toys

Solar Heated BalloonThis solar powered gadget looks a load more fun than the solar powered ventilator we wrote about earlier (though not as much fun as the Wego Kite Tube). The black Solar Airship is probably the most fun you can have in the park with your clothes on.

To use the sausage shaped Airship, simply fill with air which I assume is done by holding it open and running across the field with an insane grin on your face (so no puffing required though probably a bit of panting). Once filled with air the solar airship measures a whopping 8 metres long. Next you let the sun heat the airship and watch it rise into the air holding on for dear life. I’m not sure what sort of weight it can lift but it will be fun to find out.

You can get the Solar Airship from The Gadget Shop for £10 which is an absolute steal IMO.
